We went to see the film last Thursday at the Inox, while in Goa.
It was almost a full house for the English version about half of which were Europeans/British.
However, the Hindi versions have not been so busy - the adverse publicity and demonstrations in India (including at Panaji) by Hindu activists, may have put many off going.
I thought the film was fantastic and a very truthful portrayal of life in the Mumbai slums.
It was shocking and harrowing yet still, uplifting and hopeful.
As a Scot - I was not offended by Danny Boyle's other contentious film "Train Spotting."
I didn't go out on the streets demonstrating and complaining that his portrayal of the drug scene in Glasgow, gave an unfair view of life in city.
Has anyone both read the book & watched the film. I just wondered which was the best. I don't like doing both as I find one spoils it for the other.
I read the book and then went to see the film, they were very different to each other but both good in their own right

Actually it was Edinburgh.... you used to be able to do a tourist 'Trainspotting' walk/trip. The bad areas have mainly been cleaned up to some extent.
chilly
We don't go to the cinema a lot, in fact I think before last night the last time I went the film was in black and white and didn't have any sound (lol)
So glad we went really enjoyed it, tugged at the heart strings and made me laugh too, it's got everything!!
Brilliant.
Like Dave's wife we don't go to the cinema that much either, although the last film I saw was actually in colour, We thought this film was brilliant, loved the music, does anyone know if you can buy the soundtrack. As others have said though, it is a bit sad as there is a lot of truth in it.
Am sure I saw an advert on TV over the weekend for the soundtrack CD
Ok, thanks will have a look on amazon for it.
You can definitely get the soundtrack, it is currently number 8 in the HMV compilation chart, I have just bought the book which I am looking forward to reading whilst sitting on Baga beach when I go on Friday.
The book is the next thing on my list.
I've read the prologue already, so far so good, I wanted to read the book before I see the film, what do you recon the chances are of it being on on my flight on Friday.
It's still on at the Inox in Panaji at 4.30 pm.
Watched it at the Inox in Panjim while I was out there, Amazing film. Tried to get the book everywhere but out of stock!! The Inox is great!
