I take hangers, because there's never enough of them in hotel wardrobes, but I don't bring them back home with me - I just take Primark/market stall ones and leave them behind.

Where do I start? Others might think 'strange' - I think 'useful' :D

Small Torch - always comes in useful in Cuba where the power supply can be erratic to say the least
Swiss Army Knife - gone to too many SC apartments and found no corkscrew
Gadget 'Card' - another version of the above but the size of a credit card with extra gadgets to the above
Wind-up washing line and a few pegs - always end up spilling something down me
First Aid Kit - never been away and not had to use something from it
Travel Kettle - ever since I scalded myself using a pan, glad we had the first aid kit that time!
Earl Grey or Darjeeling Tea and Kenyan Ground Coffee - for when we first arrive
Cafetiere - to go with the 'proper' coffee above instead of the 'instant' that is all you get in the rooms in even the poshest hotels
Travel Sponges - not for washing me but for wiping down other things
Travel Towel - ideal for 'quick wash and brush ups' in transit
Tissues & Antiseptic Wipes - for those loos in Cuba where you only ever seem to get at most 2 out of the 3 of water, soap and toilet paper
Pack of Playing Cards - helped while away the time in the transit lounge in Belgrade, keeps nieces occupied on wet days in Scotland
Phrasebook and Dictionary - in the local language and vital for those parts of the world were you can't rely on the locals speaking English
Spare batteries - after we discovered that the local ones in La Gomera only lasted a day in my Mother's walkman
Duty Free Gin - for those essential 'sundowners' on the balcony at night

That usually leaves some space in the case and so I'll fling in a few clothes 'cos you can't go naked :D

I take a couple of washing powder tablets so I can rinse things through in an emergency and that's about it, how boring am I?!?!. Reading through this thread I wonder if this is why they are reducing our hold luggage allowances.... I'm amazed everyone can pick up their cases!!! Louise

A potato peeler. We usually go on Eurocamp or equivalent holidays and for some reason they don't include a potato peeler in the equipment provided.

Usually take:- swiss army knife, travel wash, travel washing line, sewing kit, small travel towel (dries quickly without having to wait all day for it to dry) and a mini first aid kit.

Good topic this, and there was me thinking that we were ecentric, we always take a multi tool been so handy so many times, cork screw, washing line, spare batteries, rubber bath mat, also got a golf umbrella that I cut down to size which has been used sooooo many times, also take a torch, insulating tape and strong tape for sealing bottles, and I also have a pot of wood screws and a piece of plywood, bet no one can guess what that could be used for ?.

I once took my crewsaver life jacket to Tenerife with me! I was going to be spending a bit of time on the water so thought I'd go prepared. Apart from that, I don't really take anything out of the ordinary. I don't have room for anything once the cameras, diving equipment and a few cloths are packed!

Awwwwww lassigirl ^.^

This isn't strange but I have a bad habit of taking things I never use. Things like travel games & playing cards & books & puzzle books. I really only use my iPod.

I used to take a piece of string to tie to 2 chairs together to make a clothes line on the balcony. Oh and of course a dozen clothes pegs

Oh yeah, forgot about that - I usually do that too Helen - just incase there isn't any clothes maiden / line there.
Don't have to do that this year though, going back to the same (privately owned) apartment and so we know what's already there. :)

hi all, because i'm not that tall and sometimes have trouble reaching the overhead shower spray, i take a suction / screw on wall mountable shower head holder, and just place it at the height needed.i just have to remember to bring it home with me!! also this year i've decided to take one of those foldable pop up laundry bags, as i'm fed up with dirty clothes littering our hotel room. got one from the pound shop, and had fun trying to get it to 'pop down' again. if all fails, i can always leave it for the next guests to use.
hi sliema2 - i'm still waiting for your explanation - as i go away tomorow (santa ponsa not malta), and might want to pack some screws and plywood :rofl
