I'd say vodka, diet coke is about the best alcoholic drink so stick with that. So far as your potatoes go - well the best thing I would say is simply reduce the number you have while increasing the veg on the side. As other posters have said, different things work for different people. I'm personally not one for SW style of not mixing carbs and proteins but it works for some. Likewise the WW points system is just another way to take control of what you are eating - basically they are all about the calories when it boils down to it - but without you having to work it out. Portion sizes seem to me to be most people's problem. These slimming clubs etc. can be of great help in educating you on where you might be going wrong.

So far as eating after 7pm goes - well that's a myth. What matters is how much you have eaten over the course of a week - when you eat it makes no difference whatsoever. What can be a problem is if you find you don't have time to eat properly during the day and as a result you eat too much of the wrong things when the day is over. That's why eating regular meals is a good way of controlling hunger pangs.

It is difficult, what everyone is in agreement with is that you do have to make changes that you are going to stick with - forever. You have to change your outlook towards food and drink.

Hi girls i am glad someone is listening out there, We can help each other the only thing is i am away for a wk as from tomorrow, yes vodka is loads better than larger but try and cut down a bit i have i use to have a drink most nightes but have cut it down to wk ends (killing me but hey it would kill me if i stuck to the other way :rofl ) i have pots too but keep cutting them down each time i have them i try to have about 200gr of pots and two ryvita at lunch and yes try and eat before 7 i know its difficult but if i cant eat before that time i try and have me carbs at lunch time instead. as i am trying now to just have breakfast which are carbs and 2ryvita which are carbs and my tea which some times are a few carbs but i am trying to have stirfrys or just veg with out pots to try and help my weight loss. Keep up the good work girls and i will catch you when i am back you can go on w/w without paying i think but you wont get all the benifits on it. oh and buy the way i lost 1.5LBs this wk better than last wk but still aiming for me st by xmas. :tup

Hello, thanks very much for all your input, it is much appreciated.

Well, i have decided to join a gym next week, as im a student so off peak membership is only 20pounds per month, and to be honest, i would have spent more than that just on swimming alone.

I have 13 weeks left until i go to Goa, and i desperatly need to lose around 1 or 2 stone :que

My other plan is to always start the day with breakfast, and to use semiskimmed milk rather than the blue top, and to snack on fruit rather than chocolate and crisp.

For lunch i do not have a clue what to have, i know that a small jacket potato with beans and lots of salad will be healthy, but im stuck for more ideas.

For my evening meals i think i will get those weight watchers meals, and just add a load of salad with it.

Does this sound ok to you? or am i completly going wrong? :rofl

Walks, hope you have a good time in Goa at christmas , and save me some honeybee :cheers

well, i have just joined a gym :) , and i managed to only have 19 points out of my 24point allowance yesterday for weightwatchers diet (would have only had 17.5points if my partner didnt tempt me with some cookies lol.

13 weeks to lose at least a stone, and i plan on going to the gym at least 3 times a week.

Hi yummymummy, just a word of advice - try and eat all your points on the WW diet. I have lost 35lb on WW and if you don't eat all your points it will slow your weight loss down. I know it sounds strange, but once you lose enough weight to drop down to the next stone (e.g you start at 11st 5lb and lose 6lb taking you to 10st 13lb) your points allocation change - you drop one point. So if your body has not been using your full points allowance it won't gain advantage of losing a point a day and therefore your weight loss will slow.

I hope that makes sense - I think I rambled a bit!
Reply
thanks, no you didnt ramble :) .

I am off into town to get a cheese sandwich from m&s, as i havent had cheese in a long time.
Then tonight i am having fish weight watchers chips and mushy peas, which comes up to 8 points.
I havent got a clue how much the sandwich will be, but i will keep the wrapper and work out the points value at home.

I have a quick question, i love buying those chinese style pork chops from Morrisons, but it doesnt have any nutricional values on the packaging. So i cannot work out the points.

does anyone know how to work this out? or should i just not eat it anymore lol

Thanks

Nicola

Do they have any ingredients on them? If they are honey based I would stay clear, but you may be ok with them if they are seasoned using dry spices. However pork is one of the higher pointed meats - you can make some lovely chinese spiced chicken or turkey breasts yourself, that would be lower in points - this might be really useful for you when you have started to drop weight and are on less points, as its a way of not limiting your food intake drastically, just changing what you are eating.

Shop bought sandwiches can be high on points, but sometimes you do just fancy some nice bread. I have ryvita and low fat homous for lunch - 2 ryvita and a mini tub of homous(morrisons do a stack of 3 mini tubs of flavoured homous) is 3.5 points.
I can't remember the last time I ate cheese! Been on WW 25 weeks now, so not had it properly in all that time!

thanks for your detailed post, i suppose i will have to stay away from the pork then :(
I am off to my gym induction now, and i have heard that if you exercise you can get bonus points, but i dont think i will use those bonus points as i find it hard trying to use the regular points lol
Reply
yes you get bonus points for exercise (they are called activity points) - the amount of points depends on the type of exercise, your weight and how long you exercise for.

I know a lot of people that don't count their activity points as they see them as a bonus - they just eat their normal daily allowance and if they exercise then its a bonus.

thanks :)
I havent bothered to use these bonus points, as it gets too complicated for me lol.

I managed to stay on track with weight watchers, but had a day off where i had galaxy choc and a takeaway.

Ive lost 8lbs in just over 2 weeks, so im quite pleased :)

Hi all :wave Thought i would bump this one back up to give us all some motivation.

Now that christmas is over, I am starting to think about my ever increasing waist line!

Im lucky. I have a holiday booked already for June this year but ive now realised that in order to be the size I was for my holiday in June last year and wear all my lovely summer clothes, I need to lose at least a stone in weight :yikes . I cant believe ive put on that much weight but there you go, the wine, mince pies and peanuts really took their toll. To be fair, hubby says that I dont look like ive put on a stone (bless him :) )but the clothes dont fit so something has got to give and I dont want to have to buy bigger clothes, ive been down that road and dont want to go there again.

Ive managed to get a voucher for free membership and will be rejoining Slimming World starting next Tuesday.

So, anyone care to join me again for a summer diet revival?? Come on, you know you want to :think Im looking forward to sharing success stories again.

Sarah :)

I have got to lose weight because I went for an interview today and provided my references are ok, I will be offered the job.

When I was getting ready to leave this morning, I saw myself in our hall mirror and was really shocked at how 'round' I am. As I was wearing a black jacket, black trousers, black shoes and a dark navy sweater, I looked like a big bowling ball. All I needed was someone to stick their fingers up my nose and roll me down to my car!

This job is the incentive I need to change my appearance because as you all know, people ALWAYS remember how you looked when they first met you.

I am going to start the S.W. healthy eating plan tomorrow and will make an appointment to get my hair colours touched up.

I am so excited about the future now.

Good luck to every one starting a new eating plan soon.

Sheila.

Good luck with the job Sheila :gluck . Im sure you dont look as bad as you felt but your description of yourself really made me smile :). My daughter cheered me up no end this afternoon when she told me she didnt want me to lose any weight because I was "cuddly". Charming.

All the more determined to get that weight off now.

Hi Again
Happy 2009.
I have still been doing SW since we last 'chatted' Reached a weight that I set as my target (wasn't totally happy with it within myself) - I am now 4lbs above the high end of the target. :really
Have 2 wedding this year so from today back on plan (SW have brought out a new plan called Extra Easy) no good to me as a vegetarian though.
My target by beginning of April is to lose 1 stone one and a half pound. :yikes
Have had a brilliant day 1 today. Planning for me is the key to success. Have got 14 days ideas for meals in my planner. :really
Sarah - Definately joining you in the revival. :)
Sheila - Good Luck with the job. :tup
Speak soon.

Hi Irene. Glad your back.
Well done you for keeping at the diet though even if you have gone above your target. Just think how much worse those increased lbs would have been if you had broke the diet completely.

I really needed a break from the diet because I was so bored with it and was not following it properly. Although I mostly kept the weight (to my mind) balanced and stuck to the healthy eating plan, it has slowly crept up lb by lb to a point where im now noticing that ive put weight on and my normal clothes are getting tight and uncomfortable :yikes . Ive started the ball rolling though and spoke to my consultant this morning to tell her I will be back on Tuesday to rejoin SW again. She said that she had lots of old faces rejoin last week so its a full class and the new plan is really good (if your not a veggie).

Im quite looking forward to it actually. Im in the right mindset for it and ive got my holiday (and all those summery clothes) to work towards.

Here's to a slimmer 2009 :cheers .

Hi Sarah
Have had another 'good' day. Just made a lovely veggie sausage casserole from a SW magazine. Been busy at work sorting out the stock cupboard lots of moving stuff around so that was good also at lunchtime there are a few of us that go for a 20 - 30 minute brisk walk (weather permitting). :)
We have not yet booked any holidays - where are you off to? It is so nice to have something to work towards.
Onwards and downward in 2009.

Hi Irene
We're off to Ibiza this year. First time for us so really looking forward to going somewhere new. Plus we are staying in a villa with various members of the family so it should be a really good laugh. I really cant wait. Just need to start the diet now and then can really start counting the days.

Ive not started the diet yet, thought I would get the last bits of chocolate and biscuits from christmas out of the way before I commit myself properly. With all that temptation in my kitchen it would be a nightmare. Its nearly all gone now so should be able to make day 1 on Monday. I am really looking forward to dieting again. Ive found some good recipes that I want to try out as well so hopefully within a few weeks, it will be second nature again.

Going to have a nice drink or several tonight because when i diet, i dont drink alcohol at all. I like using my syns for other nice things and its a waste to use them on alcohol.

Keep it up.

Sarah :)
