Tinkerbell,
Swim-Ear is a product to help dry water trapped in ears after swimming, diving etc. It helps to prevent ear infections through removing excess water so bacteria can't breed effectively. It isn't intended to be used as a treatment or anything, just a preventative measure.
There are restriction on its use if you've got ear infections, perforated ear drum etc and you should consult your doctor in which case. This is what the product label says (hope you can read it!):
Its fine for children to use.

Thanks Darren, thats great - and I could read it all.
The thing that causes ear infections is the chlorine in the water which settles into the ear when splashing around or diving under the water, and causes some pain. If you got a doctor to check the ears back in the UK straight after feeling the pain they would confirm this in most of the cases.
as soon as we got home i took him to see our GP who said the best thing for him to do is chew gum! - this helps to unblock the ears and stops a build up of wax.
since then i have always encouraged my 2 boys to chew chewing gum, after a swim, after lunch and also dinner - they think its great as before i never liked the stuff and wouldnt let them have any

I have been to turkey now three times and every visit i always get ear infections from the pools..however when i visit other places (eg spain, tenerife, tunisia) this never happens!
Does it happen to anyone else or maybe im just strange!
No seriously, I swam like a fish when I was a kid and I had regular ear infections. My ears were my Achilles heal.
Swimmer's Ear is really common and there's lots of advice about it on-line, although that's no substitute to proper advice from a GP.

It can happen anywhere.
Hi nic16 ... I have merged your post with this existing topic, so you may now find some info in earlier comments.
My daughter (age 12) got earache in her left ear on the last day of our holiday in Tenerife and was uncomfortable for a few days after we got home. Some crusty stuff came out of her ear on the first few nights. I gave her some ibuprofen for a few days but we haven't bothered seeing the doctor - our doctor is always very reluctant to prescribe antibiotics and usually recommends plenty of fluids and vitamins Daughter hasn't complained of any pain for a good few days now, but she gets funny whistly noises in that ear now and again. She's never had a problem like this before and always spends most of the holiday in the pool. We'll see how she goes and hopefully just put it down to 'one of those things'; I've considered giving her those swimming ear plugs next year, but my little Vicky Pollard won't wear them
Does anyone know if it can be got in Boots or anywhere like that?
Cheers
EDIT: Merged with previous topic, which may provide some useful info

Called Swim Ear. Bought some in Boots last week for a fiver. Not all Boots stock it, but Superdrug is another place to try.
I bought some in Superdrug last year.
Thanks
yeah right...." So I think I'll have a look at that Swim Ear stuff next time I'm out shopping Thanks for the tip!
I bought some swimming ear-plugs following daughter's little problem last year (which cleared up all on its own, by the way). I showed her the ear plugs the other night, but she just laughed and said "Superdrug doesn't have it and Boots didn't know what I was talking about!
Is there any other shops that sell it that you know of?
It's probably too late to order it offline so if you know of any highstreet shops that may have it that would be great
Cheers
Lee
Any chance i could leave this post here please mods? I know there are other threads but I'd like a quick response as we go on Saturday!
Thanks
Hey have you tried local pharmacies? They can be pretty good with that sort of thing, or recommend an alternative.
we got ours from our local chemist called Peter James. ( i don't know if that is a national chain) but i guess most chemists should have it..
Thanks for your replies.
Try ifsogo.com...... they sell it. I buy my ultrasun from them an it came next day, so might be the same for swim ear.
Local chemist has never heard of it either!
