I'm guilty of taking the odd bit of fruit or something with me because I don't feel like eating ir right then but will in the next half hour or so.

I wouldn't take a load of food and wrap it up to take with me for the day or anything though.

I've taken the odd piece of fruit too but have never taken more than that.

As far as I can remember I haven't taken anything from the dining room. When on holiday in La Carrihuela a couple of years back we actually saw a lady making up egg rolls on the breakfast table and wrapping them in serviettes. One of the waiters saw her, and she left the dining room having to leave all her hard work behind - :rofl

To be honest I would not take any notice,Its one of those situations that really is none of my business so why let it bother you?

Its not something I have done except last year when we took a used ice cream pot full of sweetcorn to use as fishing bait.

I certainly would not look at someone as a thieving s*d, what if that person had a sick partner or child in there room?

It wouldnt bother me either. I am guilty of taking a packet of biscuits for my daughter to eat later in the morning along with a banana but nothing worse than that and lets be honest here, people tend to pile their plates so high and leave half of it, whats another roll in the scheme of things? At least it isnt being wasted. ;)

Must admit I've taken a couple of pats of butter,no more.If there isn't a fridge in your room you can't keep it longer than a few hours,if there is a fridge I will buy it from the shop.At one hotel we visited there was a family making sausage baguettes and wrapping them in tin foil,I would never have the nerve to do that.

When on holiday in Majorca in 2009 I became poorly and could not leave our hotel room for two and a half days :( So my husband was very guilty of it, but with the blessing of the head waiter. He would have a tray waiting for my husband at each meal time and then let him use the side door so not to many people would see him doing it, and thinking that he was 'pinching' food :tup

I went AI last December in Mexico, I had 4 days of diving booked over the 2 weeks, the dive sites we went to didn't have any place to buy food. I had packed some zip sandwich bags and made up a couple of rounds of cheese and ham sandwiches and a couple of bananas. I had paid for them after all ;)

If someone wants to take food out of the restaurant, and I have seen it, and the restaurant staff are ok with it, then I can't see a problem. I do remember many moons ago when my son was young, and I had to go to the restaurant to get something and bring back to the room as he was not well at all and we were in the room for several days, as it happens the Thomson Rep was brilliant and heard about this, and got food brought to me.

When you have paid AI I think it's quite okay to take food out of the dining room, you could eat all day if you wanted because there is food available most of the time, same applies if you are unable to go into the dining room for any reason,I just think it's wrong to pay half board and then expect the hotel to supply all your food for the day. There are usually shops nearby that have snacks for sale to get you through to dinner. When we go half board I take a knife and some plates then buy rolls, cheese and crisps and make a snack on the balcony,or we go into a restaurant or snack bar.

I dont normally take food from the dining room but when we went to Austria 2 years ago although HB the owners encouraged guests to make up a lunch from the breakfast buffet.
They even supplied small packets of biscuits, cartons of fruit juice and bags to put everything in. :tup

You were only doing as asked then ,nothing wrong in that.If people have to " sneak" food then they must realise it is wrong.

If you are all incl then can't see a problem because as others have said food is included anyway. Haven't seen anyone do it myself but if people have the nerve to make a full picnic bag in front of everyone else then they deserve it I say!

There is another item on here asking what niggles you on holiday and I wrote that I cannot believe people actually have to take food from the dining room in their napkins. Is there something wrong with me or am I just too well mannered to do such a thing? I feel totally ashamed and embarrassed when I see this happening. I'd like to know how big a breakfast these people have at home, that they feel after a big breakfast in a hotel they still have to grab more.

It depends on the rules in the hotel. Some I have been in state that food must be comsumed in the restaurant and must not be removed. Most places I have stayed at have been happy to provide packed lunches FOC if you request them.

I used to sometimes take sugar sachets if i was running low ( we take a kettle on holiday ) and used to feel guilty about that , i now take the 3 in 1 sachets you can now get (kenco) so no more red face when trying to sneak a few sachets into my pocket. I would never take food out with me , i just don't think its right , but each to their own.

Ive taken the odd thing, especially if I havent been hungry at breakfast time, and just hanging about with the others i'm on holiday with to be sociable. Maybe a yoghurt or a banana. Although there is not really much point in taking food out if you are AI as you can go back in an hour or so later and get something if you need it, or there is normally a by the pool/beach snack bar of some sort.

I suppose it's a matter of degree. It's one thing taking out a piece of fruit, but I suppose if someone tried to walk out with a Full English it might look a bit odd. Cant imagine anyone taking lunch out at breakfast time as it would be all manky and gross by the time you would wish to eat it. :really

We usually stay A/I and it doesnt bother me at all people doing this unless of course they were greedily filling bag fulls . We've taken the odd few coissants & pastries at breakfast , normally when the men/boys go diving and they havnt fancied much at breakfast . It's a long wait on an early start and it's generally ME that orders them to take something to eat . Mother hen :D . I try not to make any secret of it though .

When we were in cuba last summer my husband and I watched this woman (she was always playing a guitar down on the beach and I saw her in a couple of evening shows) completely load her rucksack up one morning . It just made us laugh really because she was trying so hard to do it secretly but we could see her from behind whilst sat next to a window. she would make up some bread with fillings , look around , put that lot in her bag beside her on the floor before continuing with her breakfast and then repeat . She repeated about 7/8 times and her bag was absolutely bulging with enough to feed a family for the day.

No issue really . she probably wanted to stay on the beach with her guitar all day . Just thought it was funny .
