Hi guys, this is an excellent site... you do a fantastic job!
I am flying to Cape Verde on the following flight: MAN-BVC 11May09 TOM216.
Do you know what aircraft type operates this flight. Also is it a former Thomsonfly or First Choice aircraft?

Is it correct that we can only guarantee a window seat by booking a specific seat number with the airline?
Generally, do couples usually get allocated window seat and seat next to it? We want to get a window, but not pay the
extra unless we really have to!

MAN-BVC-MAN (TOM216/7) are operated by an ex-FCA Boeing 757-200 (winglets). You'll find further aircraft information on our dedicated What Aircraft? thread. You can pre-book seating together, but this will only guarantee your party is sat in the same section of the aircraft; you may be across the isle. At present, you can't 'select your seat'. This is anticipated to be re-introduced once Thomson Airways comes online after May. Seating is allocated 24 hours before the flight departs; couples don't necassarily get given window seats (it's different on the 767's what are configured 2-3-2, the 752's are 3-3).

Thanks for the quick reply Darren.
There seems to be some confusion I think. I was told by the airline that I could book seat numbers 6 weeks before
departure. But reading this forum is seems this is not the case. Is the reason you are saying we cant book specific seats
as it is a former First Choice aircraft not Thomsonfly?

At present, it isn't possible. However, as you are travelling after May, they should be in a possition to do so by then. Because of system integration issues between First Choice and Thomsonfly due to the merger, the 'select your seat' option was removed. It is anticipated this will be introduced when Thomson Airways comes online, starting May. They may already have started to introduce it over the phone for departures commencing in May. You can only give them a call and try! It's a great income stream for them so it's only a matter of time before they sort their issues and introduce the online booking system from before the merger issues.

I think its more a technical issue, both fleets need to assimilated on to the Thomson fly computer system, with the different layout and types coming to the new airline from FC the chose your seat program needs augmenting [and no doubt testing] before they will let the punters loose on it

we are flying to menorca in may and have not booked meals I know its a short flight but it makes the flight go quicker for the kids if we eat. can anyone tell us what foods available normally to buy on board. it is an early morning flight.

There will be two types of sandwiches (veggie option and meat) usually cheese and pickle and chicken BLT if its an early morning flight there will be the option of a hot sausage, bacon and egg muffin.
You can also get little nibbles like cadbury fingers, mini chedders, pringles, malteasers (junk food) your better off going to boots first and getting a meal deal there.

Are the meals still Aldo Zilli for this season.

I am going to Sanford (SFB) on 29.5.09 and returning on 12.6.09, could anyone please advise what aircraft either Thomson or Thomas cook will be using from LGW (flight nos either tom050/tom051 or tcx74k/tcx74l)? The only reason I ask is that we do not want to end up on either the old My Travel planes or Thomsons old planes. Is it worth upgrading to premium on either service?

Yes they will still be Aldo Zilli meals, however will have a more normal influence and will be "inspired" by him.

When you say "old" when was the last time you travelled on either airline?

Thomas Cook use A330, which all(inc ex My Travel A330's) have 33" in economy and 35" in Premium, the layout is predominantly 3-3-3 on these aircraft, a lot do not like this layout but it may suit depending on your party size.

Thomson Airways will be using what was the ex-Thomsonfly aircraft on the Orlando routes these have 33" of legroom, versus what was 29-30" of legroom, Also in economy they are configured 2-4-2 which more people prefer over the 3-3-3 configuration, both have similar elbow room, it is only the ex-First Choice that have better elbow room but you would need to travel to say Birmingham,East Midlands or Bristol to get these aircraft on this route. Premium is worth it personally I think Thomson is only £130 each on this route in the summer from Gatwick, so worth it, when you consider the same service is £300 on other flights of similar length.

You'll be on one of the 'old' aircraft regardless of which airline you are travelling with. The aircraft are the same airframes, but with refurbished interiors. You'll find aircraft details on our What Aircraft? thread. Your flights are operated by Airbus A330-200.
