Hi
We have booked a holiday via Olympic Holidays but flying with Thompson. My husband will be taking his walking stick with us, will he be able to take this on board or will it have to go in the hold? Also, he will be taking his sleeping machine for his sleep apnoea but will be packing it in his suitcase, will that be allowed and will we have to get a letter from his ENT person to prove that he needs it?

If he needs the walking stick to board the aircraft, he'll be permitted to take it onboard. His sleep apnea machine will be fine in his suitcase. Just pack it well as suitcase can get thrown around.

No letter needed if it's going in the hold but it may help in getting it so that it it doesn't impinge on your baggage allowance- they may allow say 3-5kg for it which may help offset the additional weight that other passengers don't have to carry.
Stick is ok in the cabin, if it doesn't collapse it may need to go a few rows away in a bigger locker depending on where you are sat- not all lockers are the same size.

Regarding sleep apnoea machine - CPAP is allowed to be carried on as in additional hand luggage, it is not weighed as part of your hand luggage allowance. Best advise is to get a "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN" letter from the hospital or sleep unit which states the patients name d.o.b etc and describes the machine and model number of the machine and place this under the machine in the case that it comes in. We also found it prudent to take a couple of copies (well travelled machine!) one of which we carry in suitcase. If you place it in your luggage not only does it become part of your allowance but what happens if it gets lost or damaged? Some airlines write "medical" on the boarding pass, just declare it at check in and confidently state it is medical and you will have no problems.

Latest news is that they realise they have booked me in to the toilet where 7H and 7J would be rather than 2 seats and they offered us 17H and 17J and then said they would give us 13H and 13J because row 13 has extra legroom - how much extra has row 13 please ?

And how can we have been booked in to 7H and 7J when they do not exist ? It was not a typing error they actually agreed they had allocated seats that do not exist. That could have been fun when we got on board or to the check in desk when there was no other seats left together with a window.

The seats you've now been allocated are good, im sure you'll be pleased with them. They are slightly roomier than standard seats. There's a link on our What Aircraft? guide explaining the seat pitches on the 787-8.

Thanks - I guess it is seats ABC and GHJ that are in rows 10 to 13 inclusive that have the 36" and the rest over the wing have 34". It is not clear which rows at the rear section have 33".

Also still would be interested to know how they can book you into two seats that do not exist.

It would be interesting to know if you can expand on this ( the 33" seats ) or correct it as regards the other rows and pitches. Thanks

There's not much more than I can add other than what I've already put on the link. The outer seats at the front of the economy club cabin, ie the ones you've been allocated, have 36" seat pitch. It doesn't matter about the others, you won't be sat in them!

No won't be this time but will be booking Dreamliner for later in the year but not til later and would have liked to have known for that reason alone as forewarned is best when ringing and seeing what they offer as still available.

Hi, I have read lots of this info and it's great. I was wondering if you could help. We are flying to Mexico for the first time on TOM182 on Sunday 18th May 2014 from Manchester. I was wondering if you knew which plane this would be - we are due to book our extra space seat this weekend (90 days before) and I'm keen to get it right as it's for my husbands birthday. Thanks in advance for any help or hints and tips.

MAN-CUN-MAN (TOM182/3) are operated by former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER. You'll find extensive aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link below) including seat plan, cabin, seat and aircraft photos. Row 20 are the roomiest seats in economy available at a supplement.

Hi Darren,

Any ideas what happened to the Dreamliner that was due to operate the service today? I checked the arrival from Montego Bay as above but it doesn't appear to have landed and the subsequent Punta Cana flight was delayed and is being operated by a 767 by the looks of it...?

Hi everyone,

This might sound a like a bit of a strange question seeing as though I was on the actual flight I'm asking about!

We returned from Punta Cana yesterday morning, flight no. TOM051, Dreamliner G-TUID. We were delayed just under 3hrs out of PUJ due to a technical fault (we were not told exactly what). Then just under an hour away from Gatwick the pilot announced that we'd developed a technical fault and couldn't land in Gatwick and that we were diverting to Stansted, where emergency services would be waiting (usual protocol for diverted aircraft with technical faults we were told). That was the last announcement that was made, apart from the chief cabin steward telling us to ensure we were fully secured in our seats and to ensure we knew where the nearest exits were (scary!).

We descended at high speed, landed safely with the aforementioned emergency services escorting us to the stand. But we never found out what exactly happened and there was no one from Thomson once we were in the airport. I won't bore you with the details of what happened next (needless to say we ended up in Gatwick 8 hrs late). I'm just really intrigued as to what the problem actually was!

Can anyone shed any light on this? I'll be emailing Thomson tomorrow.

That said, despite the above, the Dreamliner is superb!

Now had our holiday plans changed from sharm el sheikh to Dominican Republic on the 27th September, now flying on TOM118 from Manchester to Punta Cana can you tell me if it is the 767 or 787 operating this flight
