Hi Challdell,
There was poker onboard in the casino but I stuck to the slots (we won £45 on the last night!). We registered a debit card for any extras but every couple of day we requested a print out of the account and settled with cash. We didn't bother with travellers cheques as there is a 2% charge for changing/using travellers cheques onboard.
There is a small internet cafe but it is expensive- £1.00 a minute.
Kerrie, don't worry, our clothes were packed the night before and they were fine. Anything that is prone to creasing easily we wrapped in tissue paper. Also as Luci says there is still that little trick of hanging clothes up in the bathroom after a shower!!!
As for the ship in general.Food excellent ,waiters cabin stewards cannot do enough.Staff always cleaning.
Glad we took the drinks package.
Weather has been warm but overcastmost days.
Can recommend the trip up the cable car and down on the tabogans.whilst in Funchal. But do it DIY.
We are at sea all day today on our way to Agadir.
Im sure you will engoy yourself,We are.
So are there definatly no facilities like this on the Destiny. We are going for 2 weeks and was hoping there would be
Definitely no laundrette facilities on the Destiny. The Celebration and Spirit have them, but they are a totally different build of ship.
Hope you are having a great time . You mentioned doing the Funchal - cable car & tobogan trip DIY can you let me know how easy this is and what you did. Also any other advice on the various stops. Thanks.
Thankyou so much for taking the time out of your fab hols to fill us in I would love to have your opinion on agadir as hubby wants to get off but i dont (think he is doing that stop on his own) while i eat myself stupid on board.
I am really glad that you are enjoying yourself. Have a good one
Thanks again
Kerrie
In the reviews before the refit alot of people commented on the fact that they couldnt see the food in the lido as it was covered. Does anyone know if this has changed I like to have a good old nose before i pick what i want to eat.
Thanks
Kerrie
Well i am off tomorrow (early hours tonight) cant wait. I hope someone can answer my last question before i go ( its not that important but i am really nosey ).
I will fill you all in on what i think of the destiny when i get back.
Thanks to everyone that has helped me out on the run up to my cruise.
Kerrie.
Many thanks.
At the top there are tropical gardens, entry fee charged, if you are interested in that. There is a little village square worth wandering around for a few minutes before heading down for the toboggan ride. Simply follow the signs, walk down the 200 metres or so, and you will see where the ride begins. You just give the money to the "driver". At the end of the ride, just follow your nose down into the town. We went into the Madeira wine production place for half an hour or so, with free tastings ....entry was free!!
Regarding Agadir, if we ever went back again would not leave the ship!! Actually, this is one of the best kept secrets of cruising.....stay on board when in port and have all the facilities of the ship to yourself and a few others.
In Gran Canaria we just left the ship and wandered around the capital, which was very pleasant. Las Palmas is just a small island, case of walking off ship and seeing the quaint town, sit at outside cafe/bar and watch the world go by. Lanzarote we took a half day tour with ship excursion, which was not too expensive.
Anything else, just ask.
Thanks for the reply, you have helped me alot with what to do at the various ports, looking forward to the cable car & toboggan rides. The Madeira wine place sounds like a good place to visit too .
I think we shall just get off at Agadir just to say we have been to Morrocco but from what everyone has said we wont stay long
Thanks again.
Would anyone advise me to take hangers with me or will there be enough in the cabin. We are taking 7 days worth of day and night clothes each.
Thanks
Kerrie
forgot to ask if the plugs are round pin or flat
The plugs are round pin the cabin. There are a few coathangers in the wardrobes but pack a couple extra just in case. The food in the lido is not covered and easy to pick what you want.
Also don't pack any spirits or wine in your hand luggage when you are coming home as they will be confiscated by customs (our madeira wine was!) On our return at Manchester the customs were very strict on the amount of cigarettes we had (we were stopped and our cases scanned) Fortunately we bought ours in Madeira but we had to provide receipts.
Hope you have a great time
Thanks murphymo, For all your help over the last week your a star
Have a great time and let us know how you get. Just looking at the brochures for next year!!!
Just a few lines to cover what might be unanswered questions.
Internet access on Destiny is located in a small area just by reception.Cost is £1 per minute whilst pages are being downloaded. You swipe your onboard security card to log on.Its added to your on board account.
Meals on Lido deck are visible and there is a wide choice.Salads and hot meals.Deserts and pastrys, tea and coffee, juices.
For drinks package passengers the choice is unlimited.Free cocktails, spirits,Boddintons and Stella.
Agadire. We did the Souke and Medina, our only organised trip.Diss apointing only because we were hassled all the time in the souke.but for that it would have been a delight to browse the many local crafts.
The medina a photographers dream, but saddly a replica.
La Palma, ship docks on a Sunday so most shops closed,a few open after 10 am.
Funchal walked around the hilly town buying more presents. Did the cable car to Monte and the seperate cable car to visit the Botanical gardens.(there are two, ours was the larger better value)After returning on the cable car to Monte we took the Tobogan(half hour queue)back down. Its still at least a 1 mile steep walk down to town after the ride.Or you can catch the taxi.If you can do it,walk down, some quaint houses,a chance for a beer. Theres a bar?? as you finish your tobogan ride,a lady has set it up in her front room, another a short way down the hill.,keep loking to your left, its easily missed.Another front room business.
If you have your licence pick up a hire car in Arricife.Hired one between 4 of us, and did the Fire mountains trip. Car cost us 45 euros between us(fill up car to original level for return). 5 euros each for camel ride and 8 euros each for the entrance to see the steam vent show.
Only small fault with the Destiny I find is that they should have a seperate disco with DJ for those that would like to dance to disco music all night.Well not all night but from say 9 till 2 am(There is a disco, held but only twice in the week, after the shows).
A good point, hand sanitize gel dispensers are located at the boarding area, all food serving areas, and there plenty of serving tongs and spoons. There was good hygeine shown by all in the mens toilet.I did have to pull one chap at the tasting after the Buffet Magnifique,he was using his hands to pick up marzipan sweets."Hey mate" I said "theres tongs there".He gave me a blank stare.
Had a great time otherwise.Going now to move buttons on my trousers. Now where did I store that exersise bike.
Our flight doesnt leave until late afternoon, so will we be able to stay on board ship and use the facilities? Can you get late check out of cabins?
Also has anyone brought a voltage transformer for use in the cabin? If so where did you purchase it?
Hello, I am presuming you have your Thomson cruise booklet to hand Have a look at page 45 - it is stated that "So we can prepare the cabins for new arrivals.... ask to vacate cabins at 9pm...will then be possible for you to check in for your return flight at the quayside making it possible to enjoy a shore excursion or to relax and enjoy the en board facilities before transfer to the airport" Also mentions about late check out cabins on the same page. I also have a late flight (20.00 ish) and I take it that enjoying the enboard facilities also includes food (Lido Cafe I would guess). Past experience of other cruises tells me that one usually has to go and find one's cases somewhere on the quay, or in the customs building there, at some time before one gets on the airport-bound coach, and one should, hopefully, be able to put stuff in at the last minute. Have been on other cruises but not the Destiny. Maybe someone who has just returned could elucidate more. I usually take an overnight bag but what with current flight restrictions etc. it is more difficult to carry stuff now.
You can actually put your cases out at 3am at the latest on the day before departure! Due to the restrictions in force when we travelled we only took travel size toiletries for the week and left what we didn't use (which wasn't much). However it is possible to put any last minute items in your case on the quayside or when you get to the airport. I seem to remember that late check out cabins were available for about £30 but they ask that you only use them for 15 minutes. All the facilities are still available for you to use including all the restaurants and bars. If you are on an all inclusive drinks package they say your drinks are free until 1 hour before disembarkation but we still managed to get a coffee before we left the ship
