i have bought those space saver bags from £land ..........never used them before but i am going to give them a trial run before packing ...i am lucky though because i do have the 20kgs
Where are you flying out from? Most airports (not Edinburgh !! ) have a Boots or similar after security so you can buy your toiletries there and put them in your hand luggage.
I will be buying all my toiletries, suncreams etc at the airport, as they take up a lot of the weight & also room in the suitcase. I also pack sandals, books, bikinis & jewellery in the hand luggae, splitting them between hubby's & my bag.
i have bought those space saver bags from £land .
they are useful for reducing the bulk especially things like knitwear BUT they will not reduce the weight
Does anyone have any tips to keep cases light as for the first time I only have 15kgs
it took a while to get the OH to keep her cases down in weight, this is now her routine...
lay out on the bed all that she says she wants.. then make her split it down into 2 heaps... essentials [knickers shorts socks etc] then go through the rest to select what she actually needs [ 1 pr evening shoes, 1 pr beach shoes, swimsuit, day ware, evening ware] where ever possible taking light cotton/linen and mix/match tops and trousers/skirts, she wares trainers for traveling and walking about the resort, for the last holiday [last week] she had 14.5kg in her case including all the pills potions and creams and still we came back with unused cloths
so its not what you want but what you need
wizard
HaHa never looked at it like that Wizard .maybe thats why they are called space savers and not weight savers
tops and take a travel iron if there isn't an iron at the hotel.I take piz buin sun lotion, the once a day tubes, they are only small and very light.I always pack
a mixture of clothes in each case so that if one is lost nobody loses all their clothes,it also means I can put extra of mine in each of son's and hubby's case ,that way I can't seem to have the heaviest case.T.
Buy all your toiletries at the airport, take a couple of trousers or skirts and 7 tops to wear with them all. one pair of flip flops for the day and some sandals that go with everything. Couple of bikins and kaftans for the day. Good luck
I go for the mix and match effect. Unless it is a 'stand alone' dress everything else can be worn with many things. So, for example I have a long green skirt I love that I wear with one of several vest tops I take. These vest tops can also be worn with another skirt I take and a ppair of trousers so that is enough outfits for 7 evenings.
Day time I take a couple of bikinis a kaftan, sarong and a pair of shorts.....can wear vest top or the like from the evening wear.
I always take a bit of handwash as it only takes a minute to rinse through clothes then you can re wear. If you drip dry and put on the line neatly they wont need ironing.
OH and I did 2 weeks in Turkey on 15kg each. We bought the towels out there and sun cream. We still though were only 12.5kg and 11.5 kg!!!!
wow .......if i give you my dates can you please come and pack my case for me squirrelchops............ i say each year i'm not taking as much .........
I also buy all my toiletries when I get there as they can weigh a lot too.
I have decided to buy some lightweight beach towels this year too as ours are really thick and heavy.
Don't take too many shoes as they are heavy too!

Good suggestion - I bought a gorgeous new pair of leopard print wedges this year, but have decided to leave them at home, as they weigh a ton! I'd only wear them for going out at night anyway, and I've also bought a couple of pairs of really light, but quite dressy-ish gladiator sandals, so I'm just going to wear them instead.
all great tips, and later i will get my wife to read them lol............also helpful to wear your heaviest clothing while travelling, even tho the sun is out when departing
"Wet" pool towels on the way home are another thing to watch if indeed you really need to take them in the first place.
I do try and pack some things in hand luggage to balance it out such as a book or 2. As others have said watch tthe shoes. I always want to pack my wedges but then think 1) they are too heavy and 2) realisitcally will I wear them when they make my feet hurt if I walk too far. Would rather be comfy!
Off to Corfu in 3 weeks and already thinking of what to take. Only things I am buying are a couple of t shirts and maybe a gorgeous skirt I have seen but then by mix and matching I will be sorted!!
I've just purchased 2 of the sub zero lite cases from Argos. £24.99 each for a 73cm size and its only weighs 2.7 kilo. They are really strong and come with a 10 year guarantee. So I hope that helps me with my weight when packing.....we will see...happy hols

Kath HT Admin buys a cheap beach towel and leaves it.
Like Kath, we don't take towels - we have the hotel ones for showers, etc., and we buy some locally for pool/beach, then leave them. Also, we bought some holdalls last year in Tesco, they weigh 2Kg each (as opposed to our lightest case at some 5Kg). Wear your heaviest shoes, etc. to travel in, and deffo buy a set of luggage scales!!
Buy towels in resort and leave them behind.
I always wear my trainers travelling as they are the heaviest shoes.
Buy toiletries after check in, its amazing what they weigh.
