I'm looking to take out a new annual multi trip policy. There are no shortage of providers and cheap prices in the Internet, but reading through the documents I'm a but surprised that the cover seems to actually be pretty poor e.g. low limits on pay outs, significant excesses and key items (such as payment for delays) actually missing completely!

Does anyone actually check these details or do they just sign up because they see a headline of (say) £10,000,00 medical cover?

I need a policy that covers PEMC's so that is my first priority as some companies won't even quote, let alone provide cover. Then I read the policy thoroughly to try and ensure that it covers everything I need it to. It is never bought on price alone.

I am fairly happy with the policy we have at the moment. It's not 100% perfect, but it was the best compromise I could find.

I just phoned to renew my travel insurance with Tesco, which was less than £100 for an annual muilti-trip policy for all four of us. This year, they want more than £300!!! Apparently it's because my daughter is now over 18 and I was hospitalised for a kidney stone last August! I knew it would go up because of that (which I did inform them about at the time and was assured it would only be a 'small' increase) but that's ridiculous!

If anyone is planning a trip for a community group or school etc then Zurich do a community travel policy. The cover is excellent and costs 15p per person per day for Europe and 50p pppd for the USA.

I can't believe I've just heard this ...
I was watching Sky News and they were discussing the insurance companies hiking up the price for those who have had medical problems in the past, but they have been treated successfully, eg: cancer
This bloke recommended that you travel in Europe because of the reciprocal health arrangements or even without medical insurance.
The sorts of things people could do to make it a much more affordable situation or even travel without insurance, is to travel in Europe where they can get reciprocal medical treatment under the reciprocal arrangements with the NHS. That will be a much more affordable for them.

He didn't mention that the EHIC card will not cover such things as bringing you back home or that the nearest state hospital could be hours away.
IMO: Idiot.! because how many people are going to think everything is included in the EHIC and pick up on the words "even without travel insurance"?
