Hi, Just to let people know, I just bought travel insurance for family of four for a week in Mexico through American Express, it cost £30 which i think is very reasonable and the cover and excesses are very good too. I wouldnt normally think of them as a travel insurer but they came up on travelsupermarket.com, might be worth others giving them a try!
Does anyone know how good they are though?
Just about to book travel insurance for our trip to Thailand in a couple of weeks. This company comes out the cheapest but I just wanted to try and get some feedback before I make a decision. A google search revealed nothing, anyone have any experience of them?
my hubby had a heart attack 2 yrs ago and we have had annual worldwide with fortis since then they have been great,
Have always used the AA. We have annual multi trip and I have 3 medical conditions included, and I pay around £95 (a couple). Not bad if you go away regularly.
A couple of our close friends are going on holiday to Dubai for what should have been a 25th wedding anniversary celebration!! however, a few weeks ago as part of a routine check up one of them has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 12-18 months to live.
As he shows no outward symptoms and has been given no treatment at this time and is otherwise feeling fine they have decided with the consent of the doctors to take this holiday, which I think they should as it has been a shock for everybody and I know it will be tough for them soon.
The problem arises regarding insurance, they are going to take insurance just to cover their luggage however I wonder if anybody has any information on insurance companies that would provide them with full cover including medical care should it unfortunately be required, are there any companies that would cover them for more than just luggage.
Any help or information would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Graham
You will probably find that any insurance that is taken out now will exclude any pre-existing conditions or anything arising from that, unless she had something in place before the condition was diagnosed.
I would advise against travelling with just baggage insurance, as the financial implications could be enormous in the event of any illness or accident.
However, with respect, I would also disagree with Miss Pink's opinion that any insurance taken out now would exclude pre-existing conditions. In most (but not all) cases, cover for pre-existing conditions is only excluded if the insured person fails to inform and agree terms with the insurer, and then seeks to make a claim directly or indirectly related to that undisclosed condition.
Page 1 of this topic includes specific recommendations for several companies which provide cover for pre-existing conditions. Entering the word 'cancer' in the search box in the bottom left hand corner of this topic will also retrieve all previous discussion related to insurance cover for that illness.
Some insurers will impose hefty premiums to provide any cover whatsoever, because of the illness and terminal diagnosis. However, some may only impose a hefty excess, in respect only of any claims arising specifically in relation to the disclosed and accepted pre-existing condition.
Unfortunately, it will be a very time consuming process to shop around for the best terms as in situations such as this, online quotes are not possible and you have to telephone the individual company medical pre-screening helplines, details of which will be found on their websites.
I do hope that they can find an affordable policy which provides them with adequate cover.
David
Thanks David, that has at least given me something to suggest to them, I am also very concerned about them considering going with only that level of insurance cover.
Regards Sue
Thanks Sue, I have found the Medici travel website and printed the details for them along with the other websites, hopefully they will get some cover for him.
Thanks Luci, I have printed off a lot of companies and I am just trying to work out the best way of approaching the subject with them now, I really don't want them to think I am interfering but I want them to have adequate insurance if possible.
Graham ... you say that the trip will proceed with their doctor's consent. However they may also wish to check out any requirements by their airline or tour operator for a 'fit to fly' letter or certificate, as a condition of that may well be that medical insurance is compulsory. Likewise, entry or visa requirements for Dubai should be checked, in case medical insurance is a compulsory element. Sorry if it seems I am adding to the potential problems, but separate from any financial implications in the event of illness or accident, medical insurance may not be something that they are able to disregard or dispense with.
Thanks David these are very valid points and something I am sure they won't have thought of, I will get Mrs Kiltie to have a wee chat with J......... and mention all that has been discussed here.
Hi Graham
Thanks Joan that is one of the companies I have the details for, just have to approach the subject with one or both of them now.
so sorry to hear about your friend. It must have been a devastating shock. I hope they sort out some insurance soon.
I'm just about to buy insurance myself but thought that I'd better double check that it's Worldwide insurance cover I need for Morocco. Is that right please? I'm going to purchase an annual policy so I'll be covered for my forthcoming holidays to Prague, Morocco and Turkey. Was going to get European cover, then suddenly thought that Morocco's not in Europe
Hi Shirley .. I think you may find that most insurers specify Morocco as Europe. But where unspecified, you should double check before purchase.
Thanks again
Shirley ... since posting earlier, I have randomly selected a few of the recommended insurers on page 1 of this topic. Three of them classed Morocco as Europe, and one did not specify. It may be worth having a browse through the list for some online quotes.
