Hi, lovethesun, we are off to jamaica and got our travel insurance from columbus, 16 days, up to 10 million £'s medical emergency, which I think is one of the most important covers, me, hubby and 8yr old, for £29.80.
hope this helps !

If I have to repeat all the pre existings again to another company I'll :cry . Anyway, after reading from Page 1 (do I get a star? ) to the end and following up the recommendations from HT members I have chosen M&S.
Gotravel(known as Etravel for pre existings) were about the same price. Columbus was too cheap and I was a bit wary for that reason .Is it true you get what you pay for? Anyway the pre existings are all covered. When asked how I came to choose them I gave HT an honourable mention :tup

Hi hbrac .. glad to hear you are sorted with M&S.

With regards to Columbus, I have used them several times for various family members. Where they often seem to differ from other companies is that instead of increasing premiums just in case of any claim in relation to a pre-existing illness, they keep premiums low but apply an increased excess only in the event of any claim arising directly from a pre-exisiting illness.

Hi David..their quote was almost a third of the price of the other two. That's why I was a bit wary. What also put me off slightly was that I seemed to be connected to a call centre ? in India and the girl was having a fit of the giggles over something that was happening at her end in the office. Not very professional IMO .

Perhaps things have changed at the company, as I have never dealt with anyone outwith the UK before.

But the main thing is that you have found a policy elsewhere with the cover and a price which you find acceptable.

madmadge, I've had a policy with them for 2-3 years now. Not had any problems with them, although I've never had to make a claim which may be why!!

Word of warning everyone.... a friend recently renewed their house insurance, only to find they had lost their no claims bonus. It turned out that when they had claimed on their travel insurance policy, the insurer had phoned the house insurer and they had gone halves on the claim without telling my friend!

Can anyone tell me if an under active thyroid will make any difference to an annual insurance policy. We have a policy with Insure and Go which is due for renewal on 16 May, I saw the doctor yesterday and he is sending me for a blood test to check for an underactive thyroid - I have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment for this blood test and then it will be about a week before doctor gets results! not sure what to do. It might come back that I do have one, it might not.

Can anyone advise.. shall I just wait and see or do I have to tell them I have had a blood test! its all so confusing.

I think Defaqto is a rating system rather than an insurance company. You will need to read the polciy carefully to ensure it gives you the cover you need.

You should have your results before your renewal is due so you could wait for those. If it is positive then you will have to declare it.

Thanks luci. If the test results show I don`t have an under active thyroid do I have to mention to the insurance ocmpany that I have had tests?
Reply
You could mention it, but I don't think they would need to know as there's nothing to declare. I would be interested in any feedback once you speak to the company to see what they say.

It would be worth checking the terms of your policy, as some insurers require you to inform them of any hospital visits, consultations, or tests, irrespective of the results.
