You could check who they are underwritten with.

When you have a large and complicated claim - for example if someone is seriously ill and they need air ambulance or suchlike back to the UK etc. the broker (AA or whoever) will stop processing the claim and pass it on to the more experienced insurance experts with the underwriters.

For instance, AA insurance works with Drakefield Insurance Services and their main insurance brand is Go Travel Insurance. So if you didn't want to use someone like Go Travel Insurance cos you hadn't heard of them............... well you would be getting the same service as someone who bought it through AA.

However, essentially we don't know how good they are going to be until you have to make a claim.

When we were recently in Sharm had to get the doctor as hubby was badly bitten on his arm, cost 90 euro for 2 visits and cream and injection. I submitted all paperwork to Insure and Go and today received a cheque for the full amount. Just thought I`d let you know making a claim with them was easy to do and we are happy with them.

If anybody has underlying medical conditions I would recommend esure, I am type 2 diabetic and it only added just over £10 to the family policy, others wanted much more and some refused cover. 2 adults 1 child 15 the other 18 and because she is still in full time education she is free, children in full time education free upto the age of 21, the total for 2 weeks to turkey, with my medical conditions and excess waiver £63.

Can I endorse what can't think of a username has said about esure. Having just been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic I got my renewal from More Than. They wanted an extra £160 to cover me - Diabetes Uk quoted over £300. Finsihed up paying esure for a joint annual policy £144.71 with £35 excess.

I really wonder who wants your business.

we have a travel insurance thread at the top of the page .. on page 1 you will find members recomendations..

all i will say is you get what you pay for.. cheap insurance will not give the same cover as more expensive ones so compare not only prices but policy details

If any of the older members are looking for long stay travel insurance, the info interest you.
Frank and I have recently had our 66th birthday and are now persona non grata to our usual insurance company - and not very welcome to others as we need 6 months cover. After checking 48 different web sites I have a list of 18 companies who will insure us - some going up to 90+ years of age! Quotes do vary and some have a loading for existing medical conditions.
Companies are;-
AA
VIRGIN
IN TUNE
MRL
ADMIRAL
E TRAVEL
ONE STOP
INSURE FOR
BEAT THAT QUOTE
STAYSURE (MAX 100 DAYS)
ALL CLEAR
COVER MORE
AGE CONCERN
HELP THE AGED
COLUNBUS DIRECT
MRL DIRECT

Do hope that this helps someone. Jenny x

We have an annual policy with Insure and Go - we go to Egypt on the 14th Aug.
I had bronchitis 2 weeks ago and had to have antibiotics from the doctor - do I need to advise Insure and Go? I am better now.

Many thanks.

You would really need to check your policy. Some insurers ask to be notified about any recent hospital consultations, treatment or surgery. Others include any recent treatment by your own GP.

Just spoke to Insure and Go to tell them about the bronchitis - they made me go through a full medical screening and even though I am better - seem to think this is some kind of respiratory breathing problem I have and want me to pay £28.12 to have it covered. I felt like I had some terrible disease! grrrr

Has anyone else had bronchitis and found it affects their insurance even though they are completely better. Thanks

hey guys/girls

i was wondering if anyone could help me i could do with a bit of advice? my girlfriend and me are due to fly on holiday on fri to our dream destination!! my partner has since become ill with a stomach bug and cant stop been sick and has chronic diarea and dizziness over the past day if it doesnt clear up by fri she doesnt think and wouldnt want to or be able to travel on a plane for 9 hours!!! if the doctor isnt able to give her something to help and she cant fly?? wat will happen with regards to my travel insurance? we booked the holiday about 6 weeks ago and thought we had booked insurance as well but once we got the bill in we realised we hadnt been charged for insurance so we bought our tour operater insurance threw first choice on satarday there, if the doctor gives her some sort of letter sayin she is to ill to travel will we be able to claim our insurance as the holiday cost 3 thousands pounds which is a hell of a lot of money to lose? we saved so hard to pay for this holiday and the 2 of us are really gutted hopefully it will clear up on time does anyone have any idea if we would be covered or have we lost the holiday and our money if she cant fly?? any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi and welcome to HT!

Provided the insurance was taken out BEFORE she became ill then you should be covered if the doctor gives you a letter saying she isn't fit to fly and provided the illness isn't connected to a pre-existing medical condition.

I sincerely hope that she feels better soon and you are able to go on holiday.

thanks so much for your quick reply i really appreciate it! i have never had to claim travel insurance before on any of my hols so i have no idea of how the system works??
if the claim is accepted by the insurance company and my girlfriend is fit to fly in a few days do u think they would cover the costs of changing the dates and new flights etc as we are not interested in gettin the money back we would so much rather we got our holiday that we booked even if we would be a few days late or would we have to wait weeks or months to get our money bak before we could re book or would the company re book for us ??

thanks again for your help fingers crossed she`l be ok come fri, knowing my luck il probably catch the bug off her next or worse still it will probably get me after we leave and im sittin on the beach haha lol

You need to check your policy. I wouldn't have thought they would cover costs of amending. It's usually cancellation cover. If it's a straight forward claim you shouldn't have to wait more than a couple of weeks for your refund less the policy excess if applicable. If you booked through a travel agent you would need to speak to them about re-booking.

Not sure if it's best to post here or in the Travel Insurance Forum.

We have annual Travel Insurance through the Post Office. We both have Medical issues. Me, High Blood Pressure (controlled ) and OH , Asthma. On the application form, if both medical issues were controlled and medication had not been changed for a year, we did not need to declare them.
My medication has been reduced, one tablet withdrawn and no extra prescribed. OH has had one inhalor withdrawn and another prescribed. As far as we know it is not actually different from before, but just a cheaper version.
When on other medical screening lines we have only been asked "the number of tablets or number of inhalors" not the name of medicines :
So 1st Question: Do you think (as we did not have to advise medical conditions in the first place) should we have to notify them ?
Second question : Annual insurance expires in November We are booked for a holiday in September Do you think under our existing insurance we will be be covered ?
3rd Question: We have also booked for Spain in December. Do you think we can rely on our existing insurance until it expires in November or should I be looking for Insurance now rather than waiting until our existing insurance expires ?

I would declare any medical conditions to be on the safe side, then it's up to them whether they want to note them or not. The ones you have shouldn't put up the premium by much if at all.

Your current policy will cover you until it expires so it will cover a September holiday if it expires in November.

Your current policy will also cover you for cancellation of your December holiday until it expires in November. You should renew it or get a new policy immediately the old ones expires to ensure you have continuous cover.

I shall merge this with the travel insurance sticky.

Hi, has anyone heard of a travel insurance company called CLUB TOGETHER? Out of the blue I've received a letter from ROCK INSURANCE INNOVATION thanking me for purchasing travel insurance! I haven't even heard of this firm, let alone buy any insurance from them. However, as a thank you for buying this insurance they have enclosed a £25 voucher which I can spend at a firm called NAKED WINES. I have to go on line and log on to the naked wines website in order to redeem this gift.

What I'm wondering is whether this is a genuine mistake or a scam. The telephone number is an 0844 number. Incidentally, the letter from Rock Insurance does not show the policy number.

Would be grateful for any help on this one.
