The results from my thyroid test were normal, so do I just mention that I had a test and it was normal or do I not say anything? Thanks

You probably don't need to declare it as there's nothing to cover. However you have nothing to lose by mentioning it as I don't think it will affect the premium. Some companies are more fussy about what you declare than others, but I would expect most of them to say they don't need to know.

Let us know what they say if you do declare it.

Hi, I just spoke to Insure and Go - firstly Customer Services who could not help me and said I need to speak to the sales team as I would need a full `medical screening`, so then spoke to a bloke in the sales team, gave him my policy details etc and advised him that I had recently had a blood test for underactive thyroid and the results were normal. He said as it was clear and not newly diagnosed then our policy would be automatically renewed. Felt I was passed a bit from pillar to post and don`t even think its been noted anywhere. I do have his name and the time and date of the conversation recorded....just in case!

We always had an annual policy which covered my wife's two serious illnesses. When she was diagnosed with a third illness they covered her until the policy ran out but wouldn't renew. So we have been looking for cover for a fortnight in Mallorca and have had great difficulty in getting cover for all three existing conditions and a lot of companies just wouldn't quote or would offer reduced cover. We eventually found a quote for £900 and then found one for £300. I was about to sign up for this when I read a few posts on here about Columbus Direct and decided to give them one last try. I couldn't believe it when it came up with full cover and the super cover at that for £88.

I have gone over the policy and can't see anything amiss so many thanks to those who recommended this company. By the way there's also a massive 16% cashback on quidco.

I am looking for holiday insurance for my son and his friend who are both 17. There are six of us going on holiday and four of us have insurance with our bank, but I cant find insurance for the boys because they are not 18. I could probably get it through the travel agent but it was a lot more expensive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :shrug

Thanks Elaine

Thanks Angie :tup

Have decided to go with insureandgo and take out another insurance for myself which will get the boys free. Travel agent wanted £25 pound each for them. This way I get the three of us from £11 for similar cover.

Thank you very much for you recommendations, I have taken out travel insurance with Columbus declaring a medical condition (Diabetes) and I'm very happy with the price.

Hi, just looking for an insurance policy for a family of 6 (2 adults 4 children) travelling to Europe this summer. Had a look at a few of the recommendations mentioned on here :) but just wondered whats peoples view on either taking out the policy for under £18 or one thats over £30-35? It seems the companies i've heard of (such as the AA) are at the higher end coming out at £31 then the online companies ones are cheaper. Do we feel covered with these low policys? Only ever had to claim once on travel ins and that was with Sainsburys and they were really good but they're quite exp now so obviously just doing the rounds checking quotes.

Also as we are all fortunately in good health with no pre exsisting medical condition, how much cover do we need? Some of the quotes seem to differ dramatically. :que

its the old adage.. you pays your money and you take your chance.... the only way to tell which is best for you is to read the terms and conditions of each policy, there can be a huge difference between a free insurance an £18 insurance and a £40 insurance.. only YOU can say which is best suited to your circumstances, but whatever you do make sure you have insurance from when when [or the same day] as you purchase your holiday

Totally agree about purchasing the insurance at the time of the holiday, some people don't take it out straight away as they don't want the travel agents, which is fair enough as this is usally expensive and then leave until 'later'. However if the unforseen occurs and the holiday has to be cancelled (and it's an insurable event), you would not be protected if you did not purchase your travel insurance, protection starts when you purchase the travel insurance.

Thanks for the replys, yes i'm sure you do get what you pay for. Think i'd be happier going with someone i've heard of. I'll have another look later, i'm sure i'll end up with one of the quotes thats about average priced.

Always read all the T&Cs and see what excesses there are etc. With the really cheap ones you will find larger excesses which sound well and good but are a pain when/if you come to claim. You always forget!

I use insureango and luckily have not had to make a claim, but I choose the middle of the range product and adjust the excess where I see fit. My major concern is medical (there is nothing wrong with me but my brother was taken seriously ill on holiday out of the blue and once you see that happening you know where your priorities lie and mine are not in replacing a lost camera).

It's worth bearing in mind that most of the insurers are underwritten by only a small number of underwriters so you could be paying more or less for the same policy.

Has anybody used Boots travel insurance? if so are they any good? i'm thinking about using these if the TO can't get me a good price as Boots are offering a single trip to europe for me,my partner and 2 kids gold cover 2 weeks for £44.99 which I think is a good price

I have always just took out insurance along with the holiday I have booked as a package and just a bit worried that there not as good

Seems fine to me shazajo, just had a quick look at their key facts documents. I would say though, only choose a gold policy if you have bought an expensive holiday as even a bronze policy will cover what would be the most expensive thing - medical costs £5million. Depends if you want personal belongings cover etc.

See, if your holiday only cost you £2000 why get insurance that covers you for cancellation of £5,000?

The insurance sold by travel agents is generally no more superior to many others on the market, you never know how good it is until you have a claim really.

Hi shazajo

Before taking the Boots cover I would recommend that you go on to a website such as moneysupermarket - http://www.moneysupermarket.com/travelinsurance/ and compare their prices and level of cover.

I just went on for you and did a quick search for a family of 2 adults and 2 children going to Europe for 2 weeks in August and their starting price (with very good level of cover) was £10.66 for the family.
Obviously you will have to put in the correct dates of birth and destination but the price should remain the same.

If you take more than one holiday a year and that includes breaks in the UK or else where it might be worth considering Annual Insurance.

Thanks ,I used the link and had a look and the only ones that I would trust to use would be like the AA or some other known name as I would be too worried to use a name I had not heard of before especially when I am taking the 2 kids with us.

I will just have to have a think about the boots one or even consider the AA as they were only £38 for all of us,or even better try and get free travel insurance through the TA as a package but don't think they will
