We've been getting annual travel cover from Insureandgo for several years. We've never had to make a claim (yet?) but it looks pretty comprehensive.

It also covers you for wintersports and off piste skiing.

Are there any affordable policies that actually offer decent cover? Either annual or single trip? This is basically for holidays to the Euozone inc. Turkey.
It really is a case of applying online or calling the various companies for quotes. There are several recommended on Page 1 of this topic. MoneySavingExpert also has recommendations, but it is vital that you read the policy to ensure it covers everything you want it to.
We have had an annual policy for over 10 years. Each year I hear of people getting policies for less than half what we pay. However when I look into it, the cover is far inferior and I prefer to be covered.
If you have any pre-existing conditions, that is likely to make any policy more expensive.

For many years I have got my insurance through Sainsburys. Yes I know it's not the cheapest but the cover is good. I always take the excess waiver. I have made several claims, 2 of them being quite large. One being a 48hr hospital stay with full head (won't let me use the initials?) scan and the other a cancellation due to the imminent death of a relative whose condition I hadn't declared. They settled both of these in full with no questions asked inside of 2 weeks of sending my claim form etc. I don't think you can tell how good an insurance policy is until you have to claim!
Can anyone tell me if you can get travel insurance while you are waiting on hospital test results?
Thanks
yes you can but should anything untoward come from these test you would not be coved as it would be assumed to be an ongoing illness
I'm not sure how long it will take to get the test results back - it's for my husband - they think he may have Crohns disease or ulcerative colitis.
So, if I declare this to the travel insurers - then we might not be covered for this, but if he was to fall and break his leg while he was away and it's not linked to this ongoing illness, then he would be covered - as long as we tell them everything - is that right?
Thanks, I find this whole thing really confusing!!!
yes to give an example a couple of years back Mrs wizard [the pendle witch] developed blood pressure problems and i have had a couple of bouts of laberinthitus.. unless we pay extortionate fees to cover both as existing conditions [which we don't] we have general cover on our annual policy but should one of us succumb to our recorded illness then we have no cover [provided diet and medication instructions are observed we don't consider this to be an extended risk
Just spotted this policy wording and I wondered what it actually means:
"This travel insurance is not intended to cover expensive items for which You should take out full ‘Personal Possessions' insurance under Your Home Contents policy."
Presumably it's to indicate the limiations of teh cover rather than allowing them to not pay out anything at all for a high value item?
Cheers.
I am in a similar situation regarding getting covered for existing medical condition or not.
My annual policy has gone up to £185, so I have renewed it for a single trip in June as we dont think we will be going on holiday again this year. The single trip payment was £98, still a lot of money.
I can take a policy which does not cover me for breast cancer, but I am worried if something happens that is remotely connected to it I will not be covered. So for peace of mind I pay the high premium.
What do others do who have existing medial conditions? Do they take cover or not?
M
Random Number, I'd interpret that as your high value items are not covered under the policy and you should ensure that you have extended cover for your possessions on your home insurance. If you have any high value single items these need to be specified on your home contents policy. Check your contents policy document for what value they class as 'high'.
So I wonder what counts as an "expensive item" as though don't suggest any values.
Is a £100 MP3 player, a £200 jacket, a £500 camera, a £750 lap top or a £2,000 ring "expensive"?
Cheers.
Perhaps you should give the company a call to clarify. Have just checked my own policy and it states the maximum total payout on all valuables is £300.
Most policies have a total amount for valuables, but they also have a single article limit as well.
I have just paid two premium's to All Clear - one of £84.69 for a trip to Europe in March and another for £141.38 for a trip to America, to ensure that my partner is covered for his three pre existing medical conditions. However, as he has an ongoing investigation for bowel disease, that is not covered. They have said we can have this added as a pre-existing condition once we get a diagnosis. In the meantime we have to just hope that does not cause him any problems...
We were unable to take out an annual insurance policy as my partner suffers from depression.
Very expensive, but at least some peace of mind for us.

I had a weekend away in the uk and managed to slip and break my thumb and snap the ligament while getting out of the bath. so i wondered if i could claim anything off of my annual travel insurance policy with insure and go. i emailed them to ask and this is the reply i got
"The Personal Accident section of your policy would only cover you if you become permanently disabled, lose one or more of your limbs, lose your sight in one or both of your eyes for at least a 12 month period or die. Unfortunately, we would be unable to cover you under this section for the scenario you have described."
i just wondered how many claims they have had from dead people!!!
amazing eh!!

As this is the first time that my 17 year old daughter will be going away sans parents with her (18 year old ) friend, can anyone recommend an insurance company for a week's European cruise to cover a couple of non serious pre existing medical conditions?
i just wondered how many claims they have had from dead people!!!

Obviously dead people can't claim - but I bet they've had quite a few claims from the next of kin who need help and assistance with the process and the expense of repatriating the body of a loved one who has died on holiday. This can be very costly and is one of the reasons why no one should ever travel without suitable travel insurance. And why you should always make sure that your next of kin have full details of your insurance. Some TOs also ask for details for just this eventuality - the independent TO I sue to go to Cuba asks for a photocopy of the cover note so that they know who to contact in the event of an emergency I often go on holiday on my own and so always make sure my parents have details of the emergency contact number - and I always make sure that I have their's too.
So this this clause is not quite as daft as it first sounds - you are still covered even if you die!

http://www.travelsupermarket.com to find the best policy and price for our travel insurance. They certainly vary but a good range. I'm sure you would find a good deal on there. Give it a try, nothing to lose
We always use
Thanks for that. Because of the pre existing medical condition I usually have to speak to a human to make 100% sure that there are no problems with the policy but I'll certainly take a look
Hi folks, hopefully someone can answer my question. We usually only manage to go abroad once a year so only buy single trip travel insurance.Due to some family moving abroad we will be going to visit at least twice this year with a possible summer holiday as well so I was going to buy an annual policy. One of the trips will mean our 14 year old daughter travelling without us(going with Gran) so my question is,is she covered by the family policy even though we won't be present?
