had to come home from my holiday early due to my mum dying and had to pay 1400 for flights, she hahd cancer for 2 years, was going to put a claim in to see if insurance would cover cost but unsure how it will go as she had the cancer so long, any advice?
Sorry to hear of your bad news, did your mum die whilst you are on holiday. I guess as always have a look at the small print but my insurance says that I can claim for this but that I have to ring the insurance company first before flying home to put the claim in and get their authorisation.
we took out holiday with thomson and took extra insurance as hubby had heart attack in january this year.our hols are next july thomson cancelled flight from aberdeen so they gave us refund on hol cost including insurance, the extra health insurance cost 109£ with axa who would only deal with us if we gave them thomsons code number, when we tried to tell them our flight was cancelled after speaking to 8 people they said they would send us a claim form. we don't want to claim as we have not had holiday. we feel thomson should refund our extra health insurance money as they were the ones who could not supply our holiday we are devasted and the stress of phoning axa and being continually given different numbers was not good for my hubby help! all we want is our money back or mayb axa could transfer our insurance to a new holiday ? what do you think?
i phoned them before i had booked flights and was advised to pay for my own flights then claim when i got home, they did help look for flights for me but by time they got back in touch i had already booked my own flights home.
It was bowel cancer that I had and my operation was in June and I am now absolutely fine. Although we have had several short breaks in this country I really want to get a holiday booked in Benidorm in the new year, but would prefer to be fully insured.
I am repeating my quest for help as I hoped that someone new may have some ideas.
Thanks for any suggestions
Regards Sue
If no-one else has any better suggestions then I would suggest trying your local insurance broker. Or sepak to someone like Macmillan Cancer support and see if they can recommend any companies. Good luck!
thanks Chilly
Is there much difference in price between getting an annual or single trip insurance and is an annual one worth it if you only go away a couple of times a year?
I realise that insurance companies have to be told about existing medical conditions, have any older diabetics experienced problems when buying holiday insurance?
http://www.freedominsure.co.uk They advertise cover for pre existing medical conditions.
Lincolnsue, have you tried Freedom Insurance.
Wonder if anyone can give a bit of advice. My dad is due to go abroad to the Canaries for a week. He told me a couple of weeks ago that he had sorted out insurance through Freedom after being referred to them by Age Concern who couldn't insure him because of chest problems. He also has a prescription for an Angina spray every six months which as he says he doesn't use it he omitted to inform them I stressed to him how important it is to let them know about it and he's told me today that he has phoned them and has been told it's fine. The problem is I'm not sure I believe he has and will worry until he's back in one piece. If I ask him to show me the policy would it confirm/list the pre existing conditions the company have been told about? I feel awful not knowing whether to believe him but I don't think he realises the pitfalls of not ensuring you're sufficiently covered.
Both hubby and I have conditions which are listed on the policy schedule as covered. It also listed the conditions I declared for parents which are not covered.
Thanks for the reply Luci. I'll get him to show me the policy and see what it says.
Thanks also to Corinne76 for your suggestion I will try Macmillan Cancer support too.
regards
Sue
have you tried saga , i don't think you have to be over 50, we are going to use them next time as they are not so expensive and their excess is much lower xxph
Can anyone recommend a company for annual insurance that covers airline going bust and must allow a trip of up to 60 days?
hi there does anyone know who i can get insured with for my holiday to lanzarote please i would like cover just in case the airline goes bump i am flying with monarch and im not atol protected thanks
Monarch hold an atol license, so I think you would be okay if things go wrong (hope so as we are have 2 flights booked with them). Have a look on their website for the relevant info, also you can buy their travel insurance online .
Hope this is of some help.
ps I have just noticed your other thread saying your flight isn't atol protected, which I can't understand as Monarchs website says they are. As others have said when getting your insurance (and I wouldn't hang about)
just make sure it covers you for the chance of holiday failure, just ask the question. I think M&S do this but if not ring a few others.
hi caz thanks for that.when i booked with alpha rooms i had two flight choices one was atol protected the other wasnt but it was a lot cheaper and all i could afford so i did get a choice at the time of booking its my own fault but it would of meant paying an extra £50.00 each for the four of us.the reason i took the flight in the first place was because it was cheap thanks a lot bye for now
I am taking my Mum away to Los Christianos in January - she had an operation to remove a cancerous tumour about 4-5 years ago. I called an insurance company and they say she is covered on the usual cover which I would buy on the internet, but it wouldn't cover her for any pre-existing conditions. I guess if she fell ill, which was any way related to her illness before (ie she had bowel cancer and had a problem a year ago when she has a bit of a blockage due to scar tissue in her stomach) then she wouldnt be covered for treatment?
Does anyone know a good company who may give her a total cover?
Thanks!
