There are several roads into France. The prettiest is the Corniche that goes round the coast. The fastest is the motorway that races you through. Do not take the road that runs parallel with the motorway as this goes througha town (forgotten it's name) that straddles the border and is basiccally a tax free zone. Thus it gets totally blocked up with French doing their duty free shopping! It can take hours to get through.

The train also runs under the mountains as well but I have no idea how easy it is to catch or its timetable.

The French town is Le Perthus and if you drive through before 8:30 it's OK after that it's terrible both ways as the Spanish visit too

The Corniche is fine as long as when you drive you keep your eyes firmly on the road whatever your passengers say or scream
VERY scenic for them but there are an awful lot of white crosses painted on the cliffs

the yellow train is the nicest

Thanks for the info.
Maybe have to opt for car hire then as it seems the easiest.
Like the sound of that yellow train Gray, but would need a car to get to the station in France to catch it.
Does anyone know of any cross-border bus/train services?

As we go down there with our touring caravan we've already got the car with us
but from what I've heard with car hire stick to the big boys and try the web before you go for discounted rates

and for the yellow train you do need a car to get therre hopefully I'll get to ride on it this year

On the French side I assume the train goes through Narbonne and Beziers rather than along he coast. On the Spanish side it runs along the coast for a bit then moves inland.

Apart from as the train gets nearer Barcelona it runs almost at the edge of the sea a lot of beaches you have to cross the road and railway to get to them

Sorry I should have said. Once out of the tunnel it runs along the coast for a bit then heads inland for a while. Then it returns to the coast at Blanes and runs along the seafront as far a Badolona then it swings into the City.
