What about malaria tablets do you need these as i've been told there is quite a few mosquitos over there? we are staying in the Coral Hilton Nuweiba but the doc never mentioned to have any only the Hep A Typhoid, Tetanus etc jabs.

Well that's just typical, I go ahead and get the jabs and now people say I don't need them.
I've had Hep A, and then a combined Tetanus, Polio and Dyptheria. Oh yes and I fainted twice and was on a bed in my docs at 6.10 last night with a cold compress on my head. All bar one of the staff had gone home.
I'm going back on Tue for Typhoid, because the nurse has advised me to have it. This time they've said they'll be prepared.

DSI, you do not need malaria tablets for Nuweiba or any other tourist destination in Egypt.

Regarding injections, I would rather take my GP's advice and be safe rather than sorry!

Worth noting Tigger's comments in the rambling thread just now that there are mossies about in Nuweiba at the moment. Take plenty of repellent and certainly use it for the evening!

Hi I'm pregnant so I couldn't have my Hep A booster as I had the jab last year and I couldn't have Polio either as it's a live vaccine!! Is there anything I can do to help my chances of avoiding getting these things. I know Daffy says there is nothing to worry about but obviously in my condition I'm being extra cautious. also any ideas on what I can take to avoid dehydration - I won't be drinking alcohol so that shouldn't be a factor but any other suggestions??

Lou - the best thing to avoid dehydration.............water!!

The forum is great for advice on these things but the best thing to do is speak to your GP or Nurse, Yes there are plenty of Mosquitos, Yes they Bite if they like you but No they haven't got Malaria. Lou - Check with your GP what you can take for tummy upsets, insect repellant and bite relief -(just incase!) there might be other non medication based things that you can use.

any protection is better than no protection

i have just been told by a friend planning to go out to eygpt with us that the nurse / travle advisor at her surgery said well its up to you if you want the hep a /typhoid vacs as its only recomended
this from a nurse that went on the same course as me
my reply was what less than 2 months ago we were told any protection is better than none by one of the most respected travle advice drs (at least in the uk ) and to suggest her children didnt need cover
well i was gob smacked
all that my friend said she was intreasted in (so its hearsay ) was talking about sexual contact with people out there and that was done infront of her children
i have booked her and the children in as tempory patients at my surgery for proper advice and the shots .
and i am now thinking of what i should say to said nurse when i see her on a further travle advice course/ forum
or maybe i should relay to the 2 people i know that would deal with it appropriatly

What jabs are needed?? Are they optional, not long back from Morocco and those jabs where optional.

had mine last week - all five of them, not quite sure what they are all for, Tetnus, diptheria and Hepatitus B not sure of the others. My arm is still swolen now, but will be worth it when im on that beach.

Got my jabs booked for 6th June. If you hear a loud scream at lunchtime then, will be my 2 kids They're not keen but am making them go. Can't remember all jabs Vallentin - same as Kelly I think. 1 of mine is a double dose thing - 2 in 1 and have to get a repeat in 6 months. Should know as well as I used to work in the surgery !!!

i had my jabs yesterday. only needed hepatitus A and tythoid as I am up to date with tetanus and polio. had to pay £48 for them though! thought they were free! had to have one in each arm so can't move them much at the moment!

Oh no! I was preparing my self for to pay for them and then the nurse said they were free, so i didnt have to pay for the pain.

just caught a line about jabs for Egypt and have to admit I hadn't thought of that any ideas what we are likely to need and how long before we go we need them. I am sure that this will be covered somewhere but I cant find it..sorry!

I got my jags two weeks ago, had Hep A, Typhoid, Polio, Tenus, quite sore for a few days. Just had to pay a prescription fee that is all.

i have booked up to go the Egypt in August, there are 8 of us altogether, 4 adults and 4 children. the family that we are travelling have been advised to have the injections. I spoke to my doctor on Friday and have been told that we do not need any. I know for sure that I have not a tetanus since I left school (which is ages ago).

Sorry forgot to say that we are travelling to the CSR in Sharm El Sheikh on August 4 2005

I spoke to a practice Nurse this week who advised me that my typhoid would need doing before December as it lasts for 3 years and that I would need a tetanus, polio and diptheria (my hep A has a few years left on it) Apparently once you've had your 5 from childhood etc you are ok for this country but need them boosted when going abroad. I would always advise that you speak to one of the Nurses in your surgery as they will be up to date as they do travel clinics specifically for this sort of stuff.
