There's a new Mandalay Bay code just come onto Fat Wallet, buy 2 nights get another night free. On my dates it is $144 a night for all 4 nights but when you take into account the one night free, it makes it a reasonable $108 a night or if you stick with 3 nights and not 4 like I am looking for it brings it down to $96 a night. Good deal for Mandalay, but obvious location issues exist.
There are two or three NYNY codes as well with various offers (free return flights etc). I'm not overly struck by the rooms in the NYNY though and the pool area is blighted by lack of sun and more importantly the Manhattan Express. In fact I didn't even get so far as to see if the dates are valid for September, so apologies if someone is desperate to stay in the NYNY and have got all excited by new codes.
As the Stereophonics once said, at the moment...."I'm just looking, I'm not buying".....
I didn't actually believe this deal when I saw it on another forum but on looking at my emails today I see it is definitely true and offers some serious value for people going at certain times of the year.
MGM Grand $49 a night on certain dates including:-
Daily (yes, that's daily) access to the buffet for two (good for multiple uses)
$20 FREE slot play
Two FREE poolside cocktails
Two VIP passes to Studio 54 or Tabu
25% OFF Grand Spa or Christoph Salon

Offer came through the Travelzoo top 20 email. Fantastic deal available until into 2010. Unfortunately, on my dates the prices aren't so good, $104 but you have to take into account the buffet deal which is practically unheard of. Sure, we've seen two free buffets and the like but never daily access. Amazing, plus you are getting a fantastic hotel as well.
Do you know for sure if access to the Buffet is all day long? Might it just be one meal per day (most likely time to make use of this is b/fast, which doesn't help with the value - if it's all day buffet access it would mean it might even be cheaper for a monorail pass to get back to have the buffet if you're out exploring!:) )
If anyone else happens to query this and gets a different answer please do let me know though!
I thought I didn't see this offer when I checked TravelZoo earlier. I've just checked and double checked and the only offer I can see for the MGM is the third one down which is for $49/night plus $25 credit.
Can someone else check TZ again and see if they still have it showing? This is not the first time someone has reported something on TZ and it hasn't been showing on my screen. I've always thought that it had been withdrawn between being posted on the internet and me looking.
luci
I can't see it on TZ but the link certainly works still
It's a fantastic deal if your dates coincide with a rate around the $50 mark, in fact I'd go as far as saying it's possibly the best deal I've ever seen for Vegas!
Technically you will pay $50 for your room and then save around $20 each on the buffet daily, it's literally free to stay there!!
I hope the prices come down a bit for Sept. - they are still too high for then
TC
Lesley, I got your PM. You are quite right about the buffet it is very misleading. Surely the part "good for multiple uses" would indicate that you can use it all day but I guess, when an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I still think it's a cracking deal, certainly up there with the best I have ever seen for Vegas. If for example you were to go to the Grand Buffet in the evening, I think that is around $25+tax, so there is some substantials savings to be had especially if you are there for a good few days. As Luci has pointed out though, it's easy to get sick of a buffet, but I quite like the breakfast and I would happily go there everyday because I would only have an Eggs Ben or an Omlette at America in NYNY or similar and have to pay $11+tax for that anyway. Better to stuff yourself at breakfast for nothing, skip lunch and then have a normal evening meal. That's my thinking anyway.
As things stand, as good as the deal is, it's still not that cheap for the room on our dates. I mean the Monte Carlo deal is nearly half the price of the MGM room, but of course you don't get the freebies.
Interesting times though. In a way, I am regretting changing our dates from August to September. Sure the flights are cheaper in September to Seattle and home from Vegas, but there really is no difference in the hotel rates in the Pacific Northwest and obviously August Vegas deals are two a penny. In doesn't help that our Vegas dates coincide with that conference either.
All good fun!!!
Thanks for checking TZ. I do get the Top 20 email, but the one I got yesterday is a different offer for the MGM. However there is a link to this one in the other Vegas Hotels topics and I see it was on the UK site of TZ. I only check the US site.
Luxor deal on my dates $48.99, but I have noticed a $5 resort fee per day on this current deal. I have always known about the Excalibur charging a daily fee (to cover free local calls) but not the Luxor. So in effect it is $53.99, still not a bad deal.
By the way, I've been trying some priceline bids for my dates, thought you might be interested Ju. I bid £30 and £35 for south strip 4* and I got a £68 counter offer. Obviously didn't take it! I also bid 4* north, and got a £69 counter offer. I did £55 for 5* North and got a £91 counter offer. I found none of these worthwhile. I can't access biddingfortravel because I'm banned for saying I live in the UK apparently - but betterbidding doesn't have any winning bids for my dates yet to give me a clue. I just know the counter offers are way to high, and it's probably too early. Yes, I'm impatient.
I'm still considering Monte Carlo. And the Mirage deal is actually ok too... I just can't decide really! I'd like to see some more offers out before I decide. MGM, Monte Carlo, Paris, PH, Mirage, TI, Venetian, Palazzo are my current thoughts...at the right rates.
Has anyone stayed at Monte Carlo - would it be a disappointment? I think it has a lazy river, so I'm assuming it's got a fairly decent pool area?
9/11 $78.00 9/12 $85.00
9/13 $50.00 9/14 $50.00
9/15 $50.00 9/16 $50.00
This is worth a thought...this is for a widescreen room.
or
Spa room
9/11 $127.00 9/12 $134.00
9/13 $99.00 9/14 $99.00
9/15 $99.00 9/16 $99.00
I don't think this is really worth the extra though... Not really a bigger room I don't think. I don't think it's a suite nor does it have a fridge etc like you would get at MGM.
Resort fees are a pain. This could be the way forward for Vegas hotels I think to grab a bit of extra cash from each hotel booking during these uncertain times. I wouldn't mind if you were getting some value out of the resort fee, but I've only ever used the phone once in Vegas and that was to make a booking for Tournament of Kings when we stayed at the Luxor on our first ever visit. In the end they just recommended coming down to Excalibur and getting tickets on the night anyway.
The Excalibur deal is definitely winning for me at the moment.
So have booked 1 night staying at MGM for $49.00 + tax = $ 53.00 So we get 2 buffets 2 cocktails and $20.00 play credit so cant loose
Ed
Ju, I'm also tempted by Excalibur widescreen. Every time you read reviews though someone says something bad and it puts you off, and I'm afraid that happened to me last night so we've stuck with Paris just now. I'm just hopeful for some other good deals appearing!
That's the sort of thing I would do to be honest. I take it you are going to head to the MGM buffet for dinner, therefore maximising the deal even further? I think the evening buffet is $23 or so, whereas the breakfast is $13 I believe (may have changed since last August). Don't expect that $20 free slot play to last long in the MGM btw.....man those slots are tight there!!!!
Lesley,
To be honest I've given up looking at reviews especially for Vegas. Most of the rooms are much of a muchness especially around the levels we are looking at and also you have to take into account how much time you actually spend in the room. It's different with you because of your first timer travellers so I can see why you don't want to take a risk, but for us, the Excalibur would do at that price, although I am still hopeful for better.
I've still got a feeling that the MGM is going to come in with a deal in September to blow us away. Whether my Wife would want to stay there for the third year on the trot I do not know though? Those lifts can be a pain sure, but I still love the hotel. I still think it would be nice to stay in a new property but I'm not going to break the budget just for that.
Yes Ju, it is the first others travelling with us that make me more wary. We are taking them to the Orleans the first 5 nights, but we really like the Orleans and it's a great price too! We just feel we should go slightly more upscale for the next 6 nights, but I don't want to stretch other people's budget. They've not told me a budget, but I know they don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I'm hoping for a good deal at MGM, where we can even have different room types. That would be ideal. So I hope you are right about a good deal coming out. The one I booked last year had the Celeb Spa for $89 - that would do! It was a mastercard offer - maybe I should be checking their website in case that's a regular thing.
Apart from my comped nights at the IP which I'm delighted with, I also had an offer for Mandalay Bay and THEhotel for $69 weekdays and $99 weekends. I'm all sorted and don't want to change again so can't take advantage, but it's a good offer.
luci
I'm sure you are going quite soon (next month?), so maybe us September travellers just have to be a bit more patient and it will all work out.
I got an email for an MGM offer this morning, but it was expensive for my dates! So no good. I just keep hoping. I was trying priceline but only low bids, and I'm thinking I should get a better deal nearer the time so priceline is probably not the best option (although I'm getting impatient!!!).
Let's face it, we KNOW there will be some good deals for September so it's just finding the strength to not book too soon
TC
Where are you hoping to stay TeeCee? I'd quite like MGM, with good prices on different room types since we need 3 rooms and we can all get what we want and still hopefully get rooms on the same floor. I think it's a shame that all the Celeb Spa Suites are at the far end of the corridors...but then it's also nice and quiet at the end of the corridor.
I was hoping to book the car this weekend, but prices have gone up on NetFlights (Airline Network), so I'm going to hold off in the hope that it will go back down. I think it's went up about £14. I have £100 quidco from the flights, and the car was £158 I think, so I'd told everyone it was £10 each. Not it's £172 so a bit more. We need to get a Chrysler Voyager to hold 6 of us, which is more expensive for the platinum upgrade too. I guess the tank of fuel costs more though.
Next I'll be asking where we should go. Already planning Red Rock, Hoover Dam, and various bits of shopping. I had thought about Valley of Fire. Anyone been there?
