Hello

Have just booked Virgin flight from manchester ringway to orlando international on fri 16th oct - return fri 30th - flight numbers VSO75/VS076 - can u please let me know what aircraft it will be and what kind of entertainment system there is on board - also the website states that there is an average seat pitch of 31" in economy but i don't understand what this means - does this depend of the aircraft used ??

- also have i read correctly that the weight allowance per passenger is two pieces - EACH - weighing up to 23kg?? - i know about the size regs but is does that mean that each person can take 56kg??

thanks john

You'll be on a 747-400, in economy some of their aircraft have slightly more but these aircraft are based at Heathrow and have fewer passengers because of this, it is very unlikely to be used on the MAN-MCO route, that said certain seats on the aircraft based at Manchester/Gatwick and Glasgow do have extra seat pitch. Seat pitch is the space from the back of the seat where your back rests to the magazine seat pocket in front of you.

Yes each person can take 56kg split between two bags.

The aircraft based at Manchester have a selection of around 10 movies for further information, have a look here:-

VS are reported to be increasing capacity from Manchester to Orlando (MCO) for summer 2009 with the addition of a 3rd flight operated by an Airbus A340-300. About time we had an A343 at Manchester other than ad-hoc cruise charters!!

Welcome to the forums JOHNDOUTH. Could I ask please that you try and avoid use of phone text style abbreviations (such as u instead of you), as these cause problems for some of our visually impaired members who rely on screen readers to browse the forums.

Many thanks

Complaints need to be directed through Customer Relations. Details are on the contacts page of Virgins website.

Don't forget that once you have booked your flights, you can go to the Virgin Atlantic web site and pre-request your seats (these can be changed for operational reasons, etc) under the "My booking" logo.
Plus join the free Flying Club as you can gain points towards discounted flights or upgrades

Hi,

Thanks - I have done both! I assume that I dont get the points credited until after we have flown though - I am curious to see how many we get.....

I have pre booked the seats although to be honest on the flight out there was very little choice. I like to sit towards the front because although stupid I hate the wings! I had to choose seats near the back but am going to call them tomorrow to see if we can be put nearer the front......

We also got a good price on the V lounge which looks like a nice start to the day :)
I am so excited to be going back to Florida and even more to be on the 747! 4 weeks Thursday and counting!

K_elly,

You'll get your miles once you've completed your flights. You'll get equivelent to the distance you've flown depending on your travel class and fare type, so about 4,000 per sector.

Can someone put my mind at rest please :(

Have booked PE VS GTW MCO July '09

Have (very stupidly) been reading reviews online from disgruntled people who have flown with Virgin from E-UC and wont be again ..... from HUGE delays from Gatwick and other countries, to non working inflight systems to seating arragements all over the place (even when pre booked online) to old planes you name it...

Have i made a big mistake? or have people in general found them ok to fly with?

:whoops :(

miss*adi,

One thing you have to remember with reviews / posts, is people will only generally post if they have got something to complain about or rave about, you don't normally get much down the middle. There tends to be a bias towards the negative. While I'm sure they have valid reasons, the vast majority of passengers will experience good flights. Virgin are an excellent airline. Delays happen for a lot of different reasons, sometimes out of the airlines hands. Virgin have a good punctuality record. Virgin have a pretty young and modern fleet of aircraft (Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A340-300/600). Like all machines, they have problems from time to time and odd screens don't work. I wouldn't worry though, PE offers a great level of comfort and service that I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Well, with all airlines you will get disgruntled passengers and the fact they they are unhappy is the reason they post whilst most who are happy don't bother.
I have flown with Virgin for around 20 years now, and yes, like all other airlines I have flown, you can get problems, but its the way that the airlines deals with the problem which should be looked at.
I am a frequent user of the LGW-MCO route and yes, sometimes the plane can be delayed, but this happens for a variety of reasons, from idiots who dont get to the gate at the specified time, preferring to drink at the bar longer, through a time when a person on a stretcher had to be loaded and also, a flight delayed because of a death on the inbound flight and the plane had to be cleared before it was allowed to take off again. You also have the mechanical problems that all aircraft face so, yes you can be delayed, but is not a problem.
Sometimes, like your Sky box or other electronic equipment the In flight entertainment can go wrong, look at BA and their problems with their iFE.
Again, sometimes after you pr reserve your seat it needs 6to be changed.
Virgin have a policy of not having children sitting apart from their parenst, this can mean on full flights that people have to be moved around to accommodate this situation. Also, even though the aircraft used on the gatwick route are all 747's, there are different interiors and seat layouts which if there is a change from the original layout plane then yes, seats can change.
An age of a plane is not something anyone should worry about. These aircraft are well serviced and quite frankly, apart from the outside, the interiors and the engines and the electronic equipment etc etc are changed and replaced at a high frequency. Planes are not like cars, that the age is the major factor. Even so, the gatwick 747's are the youngest aircraft in the Virgin 747 fleet.
PE is very good, especxiaslly if you get the upstairs cabin
