Those that travelled between 11 August 2004 and 23rd March 2006 with Virgin Airways and/or British Airways on a long haul flight, may be able to claim some of the fuel surcharge back.

Claim onlne from the 14th July 2008:

Looks like Virgin may start charging extra £s for the roomier sets of two seats at the back of the plane (window seats in rows 61, 62 & 63 etc). :( ...shame, because we love these seats and always tried to 'bag' them ...looks like Virgin have got wise to their popularity. :duh

I believe it is actually the case that they are able to slightly reconfigure their B747-400 fleet that operates from Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow to allow for some seats to have an increased seat pitch of 34" in the Economy cabin. These, together with the continuance of selling the exit rows, may be sold at a premium. I did however hear that they may just allocate these seats to higher fare paying passengers, those who are in there Flying Club, those requesting seats with extra space because of medical conditions or those who are just tall! I got the impression that they were not the seats towards to rear in the two configuration but actually scattered around the aircraft.

I notice that Virgin Holidays are now offering an "exclusive" allocation of seats in Premium Economy on the Upper Deck of the B747. Guess other operators will just get the lower deck seats.

The seats taken out of the booking system are the seats at the back rows 62 & 63 on each side and also on certain aircraft, at the front of the economy cabin. It is said that some seats re over 31" already and the moving of those will give the extra for the 34"seats, a sort of economy+ seat as it were.

I take it this is because the refit of the Gatwick based aircraft (which serves Manchester and Glasgow flights too) has been delayed or even cancelled, so the extra PE seats and UC seats are now not going to happen.

I find VH comments quite starnge. there are only two rows of PE seats downstairs and one row is held back for disabled passengers, so that would only leave some 8 seats available.

What would be the seat configuration on a Virgin Flight from Manchester to Orlando,3-3-3 or 2-3-2 or what?? in economy btw :) thanks

3-4-3 until around row 61 and the final 4-5 rows are 2-4-2 where the aircraft narrows.

Twinkletoes,

Seating plans are available on V-Flyer.

Thank you, that V plan is brill, but what is does it mean by configuration 2 and 3 for LGW/Man, are they 2 different planes? The diagrams look the same. What is the best way to sit a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) would it be row of 3 and 2 in front or behind or 3 in the row of 4 and the remaining 2 of us in the row of 2...if you follow me? Never done long haul before and just wondered what is best when travelling with kids, ie: reaching over to them or having them across the aisle?

Twinkletoes,

VS operate aircraft with a slightly different plan, both operate from MAN depending on the aircraft assigned on the day. The main difference is the area around row 24. Seating is personal preference really. I would say having them across the isle is better then you can keep an eye on them.

Hi We have now booked our hol to Florida with Virgin and the lady on the phone said we could go straight online to the Virgin Atlantic site and choose our seats....I have tried but it won't let me. I have put the booking ref, flight number in etc but it still won't do it, it just says 'sorry we are unable to retrieve your bookin', does anyone know why?

Sometimes it can take a while for both the internet and VH systems to talk to each other. Other members have mentioned that they have to contact their booking agent to release something.. I have never booked through VH or a seperate agent always direct with Virgin Atlantic, give it a few days and see if you have any joy and then ring them back.

have fun!

Ive sussed it! Apparantly I needed something called a 'flight locator number' so rang Virgin back to get this and it works, not the same as the booking ref :tup

Hi guys. Haven't been to Orlando Int for a good couple of years now and I understand things have changed from the old days of Baggage claim A and B. There are a couple of options for retrieving our luggage I see. What would be the best option bearing in mind we will heading off to the Dollar desk.Deffo don't want to carry it if we can help it.

I would suggest you allow your baggage to be placed back on to the baggage belts once you clear Customs (they system you recall from a few years back); proceed with your party to the main terminal on the monorail; the "drivers" to take paperwork, licences etc to Dollar and complete the rental process, whilst rest of party wait for baggage to arrive at the baggage reclaim belt.

Sorry for the delay in responding Traveller. I didn't get my usual email notification of a reply.
So we do as we did in the old days then. That's fine. Although we always take the paper section of our Drivers Licence along with the photo card they didn't used to ask to see the paper licence. Is this still the case?

Best to take both the paper part and the laminated ccredit card type.

You may like to pre-register your driving licence details with Dollar at http://www.dollar.com/tour/fl/pr.aspx

Hi
My son's flying to Sydney from Heathrow via Virgin on the 27th August at 10.15pm ( one way ticket) :cry

Sorry I don't have any more details, but does anybody know what type of plane it will be ? because I've bought him a laptop as a surprise farewell gift and a way to keep in touch with his old mum.

Will he be able to use this during the flight.? do Virgin planes have the technology to use a laptop.?

Apologies for being so vague, but it's top secret stuff here :rofl

So it's all going ahead then,

It will probably be the Airbus 340-600. He will be able to use his Laptop during the flight but not to contact you, that will have to wait until he's on the ground.

I expect Darren will post later on to confirm or not what I've posted.

sanji,

His flight number is VS200 and it is indeed operated by an Airbus A340-600. For a seat map, refer to Seat Guru. He can use his laptop onboard the aircraft apart from on take off and landing and whenever the seat belt signs are on. If he's travelling in economy, he won't have a power port to charge the battery at his seat so he'll only be able to use the laptop for however long the bettery lasts and won't have access to email / internet until he lands.
