That's not all you have in the fridge.....unless you've drank them all already!

As Jim knows, I prefer 'proper' beer, but my brew of choice here is Leon.
Whatever happened to '5'?

Steve Metaxa is not a Cypriot Brandy... it is Greek!!! :?

Five Kings is a Cypriot Brandy! and just about the best you can buy on Cyprus..:tup

Hey edwardes.m, you and me both..!!

Like you, somehow I prefer Leon to Keo - although I am happy to come to Paphos and drink both. And yes, not only what happened to 5, but also all those vans with the 5 logo on the side. 8)

Well I know what happens to Leon in my house, but Five has long disappeared off the shelves, shame it was not a bad drink..Leon is it a beer then? :?

LEON beer is an All Malt Beer and it complies with the German Reinheitsgebot Law, which dictates that only malt, hops and yeast are to be used to create an All Malt Beer.

IMHO I find you can taste both Keo and Leon. Whereas most continental lagers are cold fizzy alcholholic drinks that taste of nothing.

That's why many lager drinkers do not like *beer*. They are not used to tasting hops and malt in their drink.

edwardes.m, I think you know what I am saying :)

I've tried both Leon and Keo and can happily drink Keo (as my beer belly and bank balance will testify to) but I found Leon to be a bit gaggy ! Don't get me wrong, I could drink it but its like drinking tea or coffee; which I have drunk gallons of, but can't drink it with sugar in as its like drinking glue (tea and coffee I'm on about now) its a similar sort of affect with Leon, its too much back of the throat for me.

Steve

Just to give you some idea though I do like Guinness and other strong flavoured beers and stouts.

Umm, I just realised, I am talking keg versions - not bottled.

I cannot drink any fizzy drinks and that includes many bottled beers (and champagne!).

Maybe the taste I get from tap versions of Leon are different 8)

Did someone mention Ouzo over ice? I seem to recall reading somewhere recently (possibly an article from the Cyprus mail) that this can make you ill similar to a REALLY BAD hangover. Something to do with the ice (temperature) reacting with the Ouzo and thats why it should be drunk neat or with water (or other mixer) and not just ice. Mind you I usually drink so much its hard to tell whether its a hangover or not!!
Reply
Although not a Cypriot drink I often have Ouzo and lots of ice, never had any problems, and it is the alcohol that causes problems not what it is mixed with, nothing wrong with aniseed...
Reply
I blame the ice.. nothing wrong with ouzo, but too much water is really bad for you ! you drown!...

Found the article, taken from the Cyprus Mail. Its an interesting read if nothing else.

** Edit - Sorry, but I have had to remove the article for copyright reasons. Please repost with a link to the article. luci HT Mod **

Typical article from our local rag...if it was a Cypriot product you would never see it in print!!! Five Kings is just as dangerous to your health, always drink in moderation..as I do...
