Kitten, not sure how much alcopops are this year, but a couple of years ago some of our friends where drinking bottles of smirnof ice at £4 per bottle.

Thanks for the info Geddy

I think i will stick to cocktails i am presuming they are cheaper!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem every year beer is always cheap and widely available but if you dont like it things get complicated especially when i dont really like vodka, gin or whiskey either Usually im in Spain so can always count on good old Sangria

And yes I know theres always one awkward one !!!!!!!!!!

Im sure i will find something the thought of not drinking whilst away doesnt bear thinking about :(

Hi Kitten,

If you like Sangria you could always ask the barman to make you some up in Turkey. I'm not a fan of Turkish wine, but if you mix it with some fruit and lemonade (sprite) it's quite nice. If you want an extra kick ask him to throw some Turkish brandy in too.

Efes beer is very good too - maybe you could make up a shandy with that?

The local Raki is like Ouzo or Pernod (Aniseed taste) and the only way to drink it is to pour a measure into a tall slim glass, add some cold water and then add the ice afterwards (very important apparently!). It's usually drunk by Turkish people as a social drink - a group of friends would order a bottle with a jug of water and ice - and they'd drink the whole bottle while nibbling on melon, cheese, yogurt, fruit, nuts etc.................my partner occasionally dices a banana, sprinkles it with chopped walnuts and honey and drinks Raki whilst eating that (providing I haven't pinched most of it cos it always looks so scrummy! :tongue ) It sounds a weird combination, but they go together perfectly.

Is cider now more available.
We were in Marmaris 2 years a go and some was available and drinkable but are any of our brands available now.

That first cold efes in a frozen glass when you arrive is heaven and so are the few that inevitably follow! After about 3 days though I find it bloats me out so I move on to Turkish vodka or cocktails :cheers

Will have to try vodka and cherry juice as I am another one who loves the cherry juice. The apricot and peach juices are very tasty too.

:cheers also try wine coolers. i find them lovely and very refreshing too. :cheers

hi strawberry,

while working the summer in kavos we done the ouzo, water and ice nights but i won't do it anymore because the next day when you wake up the minute you drink a glass of water you are drunk again! so i shall be avoiding that from now on lol. :sun2

Also, i am another one who's after info on cider, i love magners, strongbow and all the different flavoured ciders you can get in bottles but i haven't seen it much in turkey, but i hope i can get it this year, .. i can expect it is going to be expensive though!

is there a turkish alternative?

Beware the Turkish cider!! My son in law drinks Magners regularly but had a night on Turkish cider in gumbet - woke up to find himelf asleep by the pool with no idea how he'd got there (he'd gone to bed as normal)!!! He reckons it's lethal stuff and won't touch it again.

I'm surprised that there seems to be no non-alcoholic beer available in Turkey. I would have thought there would be a considerable market for it in a muslim country.
Reply
Well if I didn't drink for religious reasons I would probably stick to tea and soft drinks anyway.

I think it's only the strictest of muslims who don't drink - from my experience of various resorts most people drink, young and old.

well this is my first time in turkey, never tried efes so looking forward to a few jars.
although i've seen cases of it in makro before, might pop in and get a taste for it lol

the o/h is a very fussy drinker so will just play it by ear once we get there.

mind you the wilds nights of past holidays are a thing of the past, now with a little on tow lol

damn this growing up :yikes

roll on july 2nd.

They do have Efes light, which is low alcohol beer. As SandC says, most people who don't drink for religious reasons wouldn't drink non-alcoholic beer anyway. Although Turkey is a Muslim country most of the people you meet in resorts are fairly westernised and drink anyway.

Hi,
Could anyone tell me the prices of beer and wine etc in Altinkum as we went to Egypt last year and it was sky high. We took a few cartons of wine with us after reading info on this website. I just wondered if we need to do the same for Turkey this year.
Thanks Elaine
