Cmon there HT members

Has the thread dried up :?:

my tip for the day, when going away always make a list of things you need, tick when you have got them and cross them off once packed. That way you will not have the embarrasing situation of being knickerless  when you get there.

That is the only reason I make my list, the thought of doing this brings the horror of reality to me

It really does happen, a colleague of mine forgot to pack her hubbys recently.

I make a list of things I need to do just before we go - set the video, turn off all unecesary electricals, lock the windows, water the plants, empty the kitchen bin etc. I make the list about a week before we go, when I'm more relaxed, and then on the big day I'm not running around trying to think if I've done everything, I can just look at my list and cross everything off as I go along. Come to think of it, I'd better get cracking with that list - this time next week we'll be on the way to the airport :D

I also do lists, a great idea especially with a mind like mine (its my age I keep telling myself) We have a clothes list and a list of all other things, like sun lotion, paracetamols, katies goggles, books, ``cork screw`` mozzie stuff etc. (its surprising how long it is) I keep them on the computer and they are easy to print off and change and add to.

I agree, writing a list is a great idea (being a typical Virgo, I love writing lists!).......providing you're not so excited about the holiday you fail to follow said list!

I went to Fuerteventura a few years ago.
I packed a couple of days before with the aid of my carefully compiled list.

I arrived in Corralejo, unpacked.......... :yikes :yikes not one pair of shorts to be seen!

Got home two weeks later to find them in a neat pile on my bed

Nooo pippy!

I wrote my list at week 12, only 9 weeks now, so I'm 3 weeks into my list! It's like an advent calender, here's mine...

Weeks to go, what to buy/what to do

12. Buy Paul Frank top, dior top, spf 60 (all on ebay)
11. Buy hair clips and bobbles, buy gifts for locals
10. Buy dior sunglasses!
09. Buy make up, and 'plane sandals'
08. Buy aftersun, sunscreens (20 and 15) and sunblock stick
07. Buy insect repellant
06. (I turn 20) buy 'plane clothes', long gypsy skirt, vest top. Evening shoes, dior bag (from mummy for birthday) 1 new pair of shorts, evening top (corset, or a formal top) embroided trousers, t shirts, gypsy skirts
05. Order Paul Frank shorts on ebay, get malaria tablets
04. Order dior purse online (got to go with bag!)
03. Long gypsy skirts, short pool skirt, 3/4 length pants, beach bag, beach towel, white evening trousers, socks, undies, toweling dress, vest tops, magazines
02. Dig out holiday clothes from last year, go through clothes to take
01. Wash all clothes, buy shampoo, conditioner, travel toothbrush, toothpaste, showergel, foam bath, pack case

Days...
6. Get repeat prescriptions from doctor
5. first aid kit
4. Get MP3s ready
3. Exchange money
2. get make up/cosmetics ready for hand luggage
1. Pack hand luggage, buy crosswords, magazines, sweets, chocolate, crisps (I'll have been dieting for 6 months!) do nails, pack nail polish, nail stencils, nail polish remover, fake nails etc...

So far, I have stuck to it! Only I went off the dior sunglasses, and saw an identical pair in Matalan for £6!

As the weeks go on, I add my new items to relevant bags "Clothes" "Accessories" "gifts for locals" or "Cosmetics"

I then pair everything up with something else, ie: shorts and a T shirt that go well together, I limit myself to 7 shorts, 7 t shirts, 7 bikinis 7 evening outfits... I then seperate 1/2 1/2 for each case, mine and mums.

I've never forgotten anything for holidays!

Hi

i also agree with the idea of writing lists! ( im also a very organised virgo most of the time)
there is always something you forget to buy or pack
mine usually are things like to buy enough cat food for 2 weeks or nearly forget to do the lottery  now that would be so embarassing if all 6 numbers came up....just our luck ! but thank god for the lottery terminal at stansted airport ! :)
also as the main organiser of our house there is usually 1 or 2 birthday cards to get and post before we jump on the plane.

please keep the good ideas going i cant think at the mo of any but have made a note of many that have been posted

You really are Miss efficient knickers :P
I wish I was as organised and well prepared as you.

I'm off to ebay now. I quite fancy a Dior top for myself :D

lol hi Alex

ebay is great for dior stuff, I got my dior top for £5! The seller bought it, tried it on, didn't like it, and sold it! It was authentic as well! Still had labels!

"Miss efficient knickers " eh? Might use that as my new screen name! Thanks

I keep a holiday items list on the computer. All I have to do is just print off a copy before each holiday and then mark it off as it is packed.

Hi all
I too make a list, it does help. The times I thought I had put certain things in and then found out I haven't when I get to my holiday. Then you end up buying more things.
Johndoe, you naughty thing!!!
:tut
Only 6 days to go for me. 8)

Dawn :wave

Like if they can fake the top they can't fake the labels! ;)
Plus you'd have got it for £3 if Alex didn't keep outbidding you! :D
We make a list of everything that goes in the cases and then tick them off as we are packing to come home to make sure we've got everything!

I'm a list lover too . I keep my lists in a holiday file on my pc and update them every year with different clothes etc.
The list for toiletries & general stuff to buy I check off as I buy them over the weeks like if there are buy one get one free offers on shampoo or shower gels I buy one and put the free one in the holiday bag so when I get to holiday time most of the bits and pieces are bought .
I always mix everyones clothes up in the suitcases .
I can also agree that the vaseline tip to stop sandals rubbing feet raw is brilliant , works a treat.
Reply
Have just put vaseline on my list, does it stop shoes rubbing where ever you put it on the foot, or is it just between the toes? |
Reply
Anywhere on the foot , if you have shoes that rub put vaseline on your foot and rub some onto the shoe , it softens the leather .

Baby oil is also good to use if sandals are rubbing

Thanks blackcat1 and shell, I will definately remember that tip and make sure I have some. Katie has new sandals!!!! I`ll say no more.
