Sounds like people are getting a bit uppity about someone taking things from a hotel restaurant.
Tin Pot millionaires dear me. So you thinking taking a piece of fruit to eat in your room is a sin?
Good grief

Also some people think that people who are not so well off as others should stay at home. That's sad

Sorry, I wasn`t getting uppity and neither do I want this thread to be locked, but, I was giving a view that I think this money saving tip was wrong...I also said that if I had to steal sneak or whatever you want to call it, food out of the restuarant to eat later rather than buy a snack at dinnertime, then I personally wouldn`t go away, not once did I suggest others should stay at home.
I also personally think that anyone who can afford to stay in a 5* hotel and has to resort to sneaking food out to save money, then they shouldn`t be in a 5* hotel in the first place.
I`m not being unfriendly argumentative or whatever...I`m giving a view.

Hi all
You'll have to keep quiet about those clothes then! I've been to Sidari, I know what its like. I had to laugh when we were in a bar, the staff came out with those special spray things, reminded me of Carry On Abroad when Hattie Jacques comes out of the hotel kitchen with her spray!!
:rofl

those clothes sound good.

I might try mixing some tee tree oil into the travel wash when washing my clothes while away :) best mozzie repellant ever.

Also, for the AI band, I usually put it round my ankle, I'm normally well-aquainted with the staff. If not, I can lift my leg up onto the bar, I hate the band catching!

I personally don't take food from the hotel restaurant and I can't really say I like to see people loading up their handbags with rolls etc. But some people scrimp and save for a holiday and maybe the odd roll with a bit of cheese will help the very tight budget that they are on. I have packed sandwiches at 7am to eat at lunch time on occasion for close on fifty years and the sandwiches are still appetizing at lunchtime.

To be honest, I think part of the holiday is eating out, trying local food, eventhough we normally go all inclusive now. when we went 1/2 board we'd fill up at breakfast, and go to the supermarket for crisps and snacks for lunch and have a large tea.

A tip for this one then... try 'foreign' brands... if you buy stuff you'd find in england, you pay silly amounts, but if you go for a local brand, you'll find it as nice, most of the time, and 80% cheaper! Then you can go home, and say you tried 'foreign food!'

As I said, we go all inclusive, if we have a day trip planned, we normally do take something from breakfast. But with the workers' permission, you'll never know, management may be watching, and the staff could get into trouble.

This is going slightly off topic now, and is becomming more of a gripe than anything

A tip i read and used last year was to put yoghurt in your diet a few weeks before your holiday.
Last year i made a point of making sure the whole family(2A+3C) had at least one yoghurt every day.
It's suppose to strengthen your digestive system therefore lessoning the chance of upset tummy's while you're away.
I don't know if it was just luck or it actually worked but my 2 week family holiday to Cuba last year was completely stomach bug free! :D

A good tip about the yoghurt, I always try to eat one for breakfast when travelling, helps with any bugs.
Another thing I have found very handy is hand luggage on wheels. I do a lot of long haul holidays with changes of planes and often lots of hanging about at airports when I walk around, look in Duty Free etc. Normal travel bags with a shoulder strap start to get really heavy after a while especially if you end up buying bottles of stuff so the small overnight wheely cases are perfect to just drag around after you. Some even convert into a backpack that you can use if it gets to difficult to pull your large case as well.

Drama queen :D

The all inclusive band around the ankle  hey, about putting your ankle on the bar, what happens if you have a little too much to drink :?:

would the outcome be  or :rofl or :glynis

good luck its over to you :D

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I suggest packing a swimming costume in hand luggage. If luggage is delayed or lost, you can always relax by the pool while rep is racing around tracing your luggage. And it also gives you spare underwear if it is a 2 piece.

One little thing I do when I'm on night flights when s/c, is to take a small (500ml) bottle of water. This means the Mrs can have her coffee while I'm unpacking  , keeps her happy anyway.

With regard to the yoghurt - for those of you (like me) who don't like yoghurt you can get probiotic capsules from the chemist. I personally buy them from Healthspan (online) as theirs do not need to be kept in the fridge.

I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome and take one of these every day - don't know whether it helps or not but it can't hurt!

I always carry spare underwear for myself and my husband in the hand luggage. That way if you are delayed a considerable amount you can always freshen up - also if your luggage goes astray you can at least change your underwear. Also I carry a toothbrush and toothpaste in the hand luggage (I still have the toothbrushes from the Virgin amenity packs which are small) but you can buy a travel size one in some chemists.

We have always mixed our luggage between the 2 cases - one airline had the misfortune to 'lose' one of our suitcases on a visit to the Algarve - it finally caught up with us 5 days into the holiday having been all over the place! Because I had mixed our packing it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

great tips pippa, robbiew and Cicekler

Kazee: yeah, but in that situation, I'd be drunk, so it wouldn't hurt!

Hi all
Over the years we have always mixed the clothes in the suitcases. There are five in our family so we mix five peoples clothes in the cases. When we get there its bit like a jigsaw puzzle finding everyones clothes. Its better safe than sorry though, incase any of your luggage goes astray.

 I had to learn the hard way regarding suitcases and mixing clothes.
When my family were small I use to pack the childrens clothes together, but our case went missing and we had it returned 3 days later. Not good I had to live in shorts and top brought at the resort.

Always mix our clothes now, so it is really a good tip.

It's just me and my mum going, so what we do is mix our clothes, but use the roll-bags, like the vaccum bags, but the air gets rolled out, taking up less room, and all my clothes are in 1 bag, hers are in another, and the same for my case, all mine in 1 all hers in the other. It makes it easier when we get there.

I think a lot of the food taking is more of a time thing than a money thing!

Like if we need to get an early bus somewhere I often go into breakfast and grab a couple of packs of the buscuits and then eat them whilst waiting for the bus! The way I see it is I'm entitled to a big breakfast and all I'm having is a few buscuits so there is no problem!

I wouldn't line my pockets with clingfilm though lol :D Thats funny that is !

Mixing suitcase contents is a good idea, we always do that one, not just with the clothes but with suncreams and beach towels and everything. I put a few bottles of suncream in each case, a couple of towels in each case, day outfits and evening outfits in each case... you get the idea
Last year I took a load of cheap plastic market-stall clothes hangers because there's never enough of them in the hotel wardrobes. I left them behind at the end of the holiday to make room in my case for the bits and bobs I'd bought.
Someone mentioned sorting dirty clothes into different plastic bags ready to wash at home - I have a few of those big zip-up washing nets, I sort my dirty clothes straight into them and when I get home (at 6 in the morning) I can just throw one of the full nets straight into the washer and go to bed for a bit
If one if your suitcases isn't very full then your clothes will roll around and get very creased, if you half-blow-up one of your li-lo's it will hold everything in place without adding to the weight.
Off to Gran Canaria in 4 weeks :hyper
