Thanks Walks thats a great idea :)
Also good for day trips... we all know how expensive the drinks can be on those trips, they also last longer if they're frozen!

Just thought I would share this with you.
If you have small children in your holiday group, take a wide roll of sellotape with you and cover up all the unused  sockets with a few layers of it. They can't poke their little fingers in that way.

hi im sure that you have already thought of it but i thought i would share it just in case, we always smother ourselfs in sun cream the day we go so when we get to our destination we are instantly protected from the sun

We always take two copies of things like passports, travel insurance, tickets etc just in case. We leave a copy in the safe in the room or hotel and have a copy with us. We also leave a copy with my parents in case something happens to us. We keep a copy of emergency numbers like CCP (mentioned earlier in this thread) and travellers cheque cancellation numbers with us and in the safe.

We take copies of the travellers cheque numbers and cross them off as we use them, partly for security if they go missing but mainly to see what we have left!

We've got a little notebook with different details in like hotel address and number, numbers to call back home etc. We also take contact details for the airport parking company we use so we can let them know of any delays or problems.

The main thing that change from year to year for us is the visa in the passports - oh, and the travellers cheque numbers. Unfortunately we can't use them again and again!

We've never needed to use any of the copies we've taken with us, and it may sound a little paranoid, but it gives us peace of mind.

Have been reading through all these tips, brilliant, have had a great laugh.

My tip is : all us ladies who dye our hair at home, the little capsules that contain the plastic gloves are great for storing your smaller stud type earrings, or even pills.

From earlier thread, Asda lilos are now 91p, got mine last night!

Was in Primark yesterday and they were selling these funky patterned handbags, more like a small holdall, £4. I thought they were brilliant for handluggage to shove under the seat in front on the plane. I bought the coral/orange/brown one. Its just the right size for my needs.

Also they have pvc type bags for slinging over your shoulder, excellent idea also as they would stash under the seat in front and leave your hands free for pushing your other luggage about when in the airport or the journey home or abroad.

Noticed in M+S that they had little mini first aid kits for £5. I was tempted but found a lovely green one with a white cross on in Matalan for £4.50. It looks like a proper little kit. There are compress bandages, plasters, anitseptic cream, cooling gel, adhesive plaster tape and alchol prep tape.

Again in Matalan, they were selling BOGOF sunshop wipes, deodorant, feet and tea tree oil ones. £2 for 2. Got those as well.

Jilly,
I have been looking for sunsceam wipes factor 8 did Matalan have any of those or anything similar? Avon seem not to sell them any more and my hubby prefers a wipe to cream!! I do have 1 packet left so its not really urgent yet. Thanks . CBG

Hi CBG, if you have a Poundland near you, they sell them there. Last time I was in there they had factor 8, 15, and 20. Linda x

I always carry a small Johnsons Talcum Powder with me when visiting a beach without any shower facilities. Simply apply to any areas where wet sand is sticking to you, and hey presto, it removes the sand instantly! Very handy with children!

When the children were small, I used to also pack a small cheap bath mat to use in the bath when bathing them, to stop them slipping all over the bath!

Elaine, I do the same with talc, just stocked up today.

My husband won't believe it when I tell him someone else takes a bath mat on holiday   I thought I was the only one who did that

If you make a mistake with the fake tan, use veet hair removing cream! I had a drama last year and discovered this by accident!

With the new legislation, where luggage can't be more than 23kg a piece, we have 30kg each, we have 1 case each and 1 holdall , everything we'll need in our rooms while waiting for the cases to come has gone in the holdall and we can carry this when we are allocated to our rooms!

If travelling with babies and toddlers, take a travel cot with you, to use by the pool. We did this when my youngest was 18 months old- not only could she sleep in there, but also we knew when by the pool, if we got distracted by our other child she couldn't crawl off. It was also easy to drape a towel over it to give her shade.

I can't tell you the number of people who came to ask where we had hired it from. If I remember rightly it was carried FOC by the airline just like a buggy. It really was a godsend!!

Here is something we always do when we are checking in at our hotel. I don't know about anyone else, but by the time we arrive at our hotel, we just want to get checked in as quickly as possible, get up to our room and get unpacked, this is usually dependant on when your luggage comes off the coach and then where you are in the queue at reception.
What we do is as soon as we arrive, my wife goes straight into reception with the passports etc. and she is checking us in whilst I wait for the luggage to come off the coach. More often than not, by the time I get there she has done all that and we go straight up to our room.
Obviously, this isn't always possible if your drop off point is some distance away from the hotel or you have loads of luggage to carry, but it works for us. On our last holiday, our luggage was almost last to come off and we would have been at the back of a long queue, as it was, when I came into the hotel, she was stood by the lift with key in hand and off we went.

We've been doing that for years Degsy and it works like a charm. We try to get seats near the front of the coach, I race in to check in and hubby waits for the luggage.

However we haven't done a package for a long time so it's no longer a concern.

Another baby one which came to my wife in a flash of inspiration.

Buy a pack of 7 baby grows and leave them in their packaging as they are packed very tight in a pastic wallet and won't take up much room. £4 from Primark. So cheap they won't be coming home with us.

Agree about the travel cot - I noticed in an outdoor shop yesterday that Littlelife are now doing a wider range of travel cots which are more like mini tents and pack to a package no larger than a rolled sleeping bag.
