Jillyjep, those plastic containers are wonderful. I keep one in my bag stuffed with plastic bags. They are great for bringing food home for the dogs! Probably not what you need on holiday, but plastc bags are useful for all sorts!

Take your own tv fly lead with you because most of the time the ones in your room are rubbish! They're tiny and fit in your case easy enough!

If your kids have one of the small Playstation 2's, pack that (they don't take up much room) and you have a console, DVD and CD player in one. I plan on taking ours this year with a selection of DVD's, games and CD's in one of those holders so I won't have all of the cases bulking out the suitcase.
I know your on holiday and don't want to be sitting in watching DVD's but its great for the kids when you just want to have a chill out on the apartment and I really miss having my music when I'm on holiday.

Oooooh another good thread from last year! Perhaps this year, with the current financial climate we could get loads of ideas for surviving on a credit-crunched break.
I've got 10½ weeks to plan my money-saving strategies without making my daughter and her best friend feel like I'm "short-changing" them. We've all worked hard (they're reasonably good girls at school) and we deserve a good holiday, but I don't want to bring home too much debt I've always done AI before, but this time we're doing SC (seemed like a good idea when I booked it, before the £ fell down a hole...)
Anyway, up to now, I've bought some of those JML Toastabags (there's a toaster in the apartment) so the girls can make their own toasties whenever they like. I've been saving plastic trays from the Chinese takeaway to put all kinds of goodies in for daytime nibbles.
I've got a big pack of Johnsons baby wipes for make-up removal (much cheaper than "special" make-up wipes, and just as gentle), with three of us girlies, we'll get through the whole pack.
Another worry is staying below our 20kg allowance - got stung for excess at Tenerife last year! Teenage girls are a nightmare with clothes and shoes. At least this year we haven't got my very pale son with his many bottles of various high SPFs - us girls will manage with a small selection of once-a-day suncreams.

We are in the unfortunate position of having one very fussy daughter where drinks are concerned. She doesn't do fizzy, or juice that tastes different to home and trying to make her drink in the heat is a nightmare. Even trying to get water down her sip by tentative sip just isn't enough.
Not being able to take liquids in hand luggage, had we thought ruled out taking squash with us to dilute (may sound daft, but squash as we know it doesn't exist in Turkey!) However we then hit on the idea of decanting it into the lightweight metal walking/camping drinks bottles- can't get squashed in the luggage and is leakproof. Also Tesco now do double concentrate, meaning 2 litres will see us through a fortnight.
Don't know how many people have this particular problem, but may solve an issue for people with small children who need to take liquids. I have to say my 'problem' is 12!! On the plus side feeding her is easy- can't win them all!!

We took Robinson's juice with us to Turkey last year for our grandaughter.Wrapped bottle in carrier bag then a towel and put it in middle of case,had no problems

We have a 15yrold exactly the same,we always take squash with us,never thought of putting it in the metal bottles,We've taken 2x1 litre bottles with us for the last few years but found the concentrate at Tescos last year,much easier.We also take Kenco 3in1 coffee sachets,they take less space in the case and you only add water for a decent cup of coffee,no messing with sugar or milk.T.

I wonder is it possible to get powdered squash? Maybe it tastes nasty!

We've just returned from a week in Tenerife. With the euro been so rubbish we planned to eat a lot in the hotel, only eating out for dinner.
We took a pack of pasta, a pack of spaghetti, a few different packet powder sauces (the ones that just need water/milk) and instant mash ( :yikes, but we weren't spending ages cooking on holiday!). We also took some of those mini cerials you get, where theres about 8 different ones in the packet, quick breakfast.

We took some of the toastie sachets, you can get them in £1 now so don't pay the daft prices for the JML ones, also can get them in Tesco's for not much more than a pound.

We were lucky, we had a microwave in our hotel, so I bought the microwavable egg poachers, and omelette makers. The food from them actually tasted fine and was great for a quick meal. These were from £1 shop.

We must have saved ourselves a fortune, and as nothing took too long to cook, we didn't feel like we were wasting our holiday. It was nice to be able to make use of the table on the balcony for a change too!

Could be a sign of things to come with people having to do a bit of self catering on their apartment holidays. Although I like to eat in restaurants it doesn't bother me too much if I have to throw things together for lunch when on holiday. Somehow it seems less of a chore than when at home. I also quite like having a little look in local supermarkets and shops, to see what's different from what we get here and if there are things I have never tried before give them a go.

If you look at the £1 a day thread that's a good idea to save your £1 or £2 coins up for airport spends or whatever you want really. If it's part of your hol to treat yourself at the airport that is.

As for baggage weight, decant your toiletries into smaller bottles so they weigh less. Buy yourself a small compact of eye shadow/blush/lippy and take that and just your mascara instead of a full make up bag. Limit shoes and rotate. Really, you do not need to wear different shoes for every outfit, nobody is looking!

Good thread I always carry alcohol gel around with me, very handy I like the idea of blister plasters as I always seem to get painful blisters from sandals so will be getting some of them

I only take costume jewelry and a gold plated necklace with me on holiday,the gold plated necklace looks just like the real gold one my mum bought for me, but has no sentimental value and I have bought everything else.If I lose anything I won't be too upset ,We also go AI so don't take too much money but use the atm.
