I was at the Conrad in August last year and there were many Russian guests, none of whom caused any concern for us.

We have stayed twice at the hilton sharks bay at easter and its been mostly english guests ;) . there were a few russians but as pips says they never bothered us

There were some at the Crowne Plaza in April 06 and at the Rennaisance Golden View Beach April 07, but I wouldn't say we were outnumbered, It was mixed, Brits, Italians and Eastern Europeans. I didn't notice many in Namma Bay at all in the restaurants, but maybe they all go AI ? They did bother me a bit at the Crowne Plaza at the breakfast buffet, as I couldn't cope with their greed. :( (not saying they are all like that before someone jumps down my throat, only reporting what I witnessed with my own eyes).

Thanks for all your quick replies we are going in June B&B, I heard they like to go AI so perhaps it wont be too bad.I cant bear rude people and especially queue jumpers and i would rather not argue with people on holiday.
Anyone know about the availability of budweiser in hotels ????

We stayed at the Hilton Sharks Bay AI a couple of years ago over the New Year period and there was a huge influx of Russians, and personally found the general attitude left a lot to be desired, particularly with regard to food. The rep from Libra holiday actually said "The Russians are arriving tonight, hard times ahead".

I shall never forget the time me and my wife were musing over a large plate of cakes wondering which one to have. Suddenly a large russian put his arm across my wife picked the whole plate up and took it over to a table where his wife and 2 kids were. Needless to say they left 3/4's of the plate. Greed and ignorance are not their best virtues I'm afraid. I could have made an issue of it but what was the point. :que This wasn't an isolated case either :(

thanks for your replies, I guess we'll just have to put up with them but i'm still hoping it won't be too bad in June and also our hotel isn't AI and i read they tend to stay in AI hotels so we may be ok....

I'm sure it will be fine, you probably won't notice them much.

Just asked hubby and he seems to think that he had Bud in our hotels Mexican restaurant last year, so (if he's not imagining it :duh ) that should mean it's generally available. Think he just drank the Sakara because it was the local beer, tasted OK and was probably cheaper, so he could have more of it. LOL.

Only time I've seen "Bud" for sale in Egypt was on a Nile Cruise boat several years ago, and, as it was imported, it cost an arm and a leg!
was probably cheaper, so he could have more of it. LOL.

Thats more than likely the answer, Doe! :D

:rofl You've got me worried now Carrot, hope I am not giving out duff information. I'm wondering if he imagined having Bud after a night on the sakara.

I would also think it would be very expensive as are many imported drinks in Sharm.

Surely they have it in the Hard Rock and TGI's ? Oh I forgot you haven't got either of those in Nuw.... Nuwe.... Nuweb.... that place you all go to. Do I hear a 'Thank God' in the distance, heading this way. :rofl

There are some hard rocks, not sure about T-G-I.

Tried to buy our dive guide a Heineken last summer in Dahab - thought she would prefer it, but insistd on Sakara instead. Better than the imported stuff apparently - and cheaper... :cheers
Ooh PS - Russians, Autumn time.

Russians can be rude, but the italians are worse and the french. russians always wear wedge shoes, and the italians high heels, even on the beach :rofl

Well, Doe, if his imagination can be that flawed, I'm sure you can find a way of using it to your advantage? :rofl

Yes, I'm afraid that the only recogniseable ale on sale at the pub in Nuweiba, is Heineken, and thats brewed in Egypt! :rofl

I tend to stay well clear of Russians on holiday since the time I was forced to watch one wet himself as he sung a song on karaoke night in front of a hundred or so people. The next morning he was curled up on a sunbed outside the restaurant at breakfast time, still wearing his soiled outfit. :omg :rage

:yikes That's a bit of a scary story my dear orange legume. Cypruschick is probably even more worried now.

I have a treasured and cherished memory of sitting betwix a Russian family and an Italian family at breakfast in the C. Plaza.

The first were consuming enough to keep a small African nation going for a month at one sitting, including about 20 eggs each :yuck , the second which consisted of slim rather beautiful women and various equally attractive offspring, seemed to be surviving on demi-tasse black coffees, cigarettes and the odd nibble of a lettuce leaf.

This lead me to the conclusion that things probably balance themselves out in this life or at least at the breakfast table.

:cheers We were told the story last year behind the Russians being there in such great numbers. After Brit tourists were slayed at the Pyramids years ago, the tourist economy was hit hard. They offered Russia cheap AI hols, and I mean cheap, and have been unable to get rid of them. The cheap deal was supposed to expire 2006 I think. As peeps say though, most of them are AI and you won't see many outside the Hotels. There must be places over there surely that are only for Brits, even though I don't mind some of the other nationalities. Most peeps hit the nail on the head when they label the Russian's like pigs in the restaurants because they are. Was in Bulgaria and Egypt last year and both places were full of them. We were also told that they like to take as much stuff back home as they can.....not sure if this included dried foodstuffs or just room fittings!!!!

Please bear in mind people from many nationalities read this forum. Don't let this turn into a racist thread.

Thanks.

i have just returned from sunrise mamalouk palace in hurghada, brits were definately the minority, lots of french, russians, poles.it didnt bother us at all, apart from meal times i had people push in front of me a few times ,and i must say i did let them know politely..i think the egyptian staff liked me for it  ...as they dont always get the best treatment from other nationalities.i know there are rude british too, but the staff and rep commented on how we british adults and children usually say please/thank you etc.yes i also saw several piled plates of 10+ bananas etc and the day the fruit display at the dessert section had strawberries on it, it was like a gold rush. :rofl

I think the only way to quarantee plenty of Brits is to pick a hotel that is widely available by many of the UK tour operators :think or even go for one of the first choice places , the holiday village or coral sea resort .
