Hi guys Im new here and used the search button already, so apologies if this has already been asked.
I am getting married in May and would like to go to a 5 star resort in the Maldives, around the 12th May 2006.
I really like Hilton Rangali, Soneva Fushi and huvavenfushi. I also like others like Coco, banyan tree and one and only.
The problem what I am having is that they all sound lovely in the brochures and websites and its hard to choose, but I am determined to slect the perfect resort.
Me and my fiance are 25 years of age and are basically looking for a romantic, relaxing honeymoon. We are not divers/snokellers but are willing to try it.
I have heard the soneva fushi and huvanenfushi cater towars older crowds and may feel out of place, is this true? We do want a peaceful honeymoon, but not somewhere which is like a ghost town.
We would also like to stay in a water villa of some sort, preferrably with a jacuzzi/plunge pool.
I have heard on various review sites not to go for best room type you can afford, because cheap upgrades are offered once you land, is this true?
Apologies for the quantity of questions, any replies will be helpful and thanks in advance!
Usually it is possible to upgrade when you are in the maldives but personally if it were my honeymoon I would risk not getting the standard of room i really wanted. The most popular rooms on Rangali seem to be the newly refurbished Jaquzzi beaach Villas which come with there own plunge pools so you may not be able to get the availability even though when you travel is the beginning of the maldivian low season.
Visited the October before the tsunami and it was gorgeous then, so it's bound to be even nicer after the refurbishment.

I take it that the reports about the fushi resorts being stuffy are correct than.
lisaMJ - How did you find taj exoctica for age groups? Do you think it is likely to be as nice as Hilton in terms of rooms, etc?
Hilton rangali does seem excellent, now its a choice of deciding whether to go breakfast, or half board. Seems like lovely restaurants in the hilton and have read that they are not cheap. Do you think that table bookings will be a problem in May?
I know drinks are likely to be expensive, perhaps half board will save money. Does anyone know how good or bad their dinner restaurants are for half board.
Also, I have heard that 14 days can be excessive so am going for 10 days. I definitely want to stay in a watter villa with plunge pool. Its probably a case of calling travel agents and finding the best deal.
Finally, how expensive are the spas at hilton, if say we choose to use them several times.
Thanks again for replys.
Here is a link my to my travel page for the Maldives/Taj. If you scroll down to the bottom you'll see the various tips which should give you more info and pictures. Below that is my travelogues with more pictures.
I am 26 and my huaband is 28. The agents ranged from mid 20's to 60's I'd say. It was a very private feeling island....people pretty much kept themselves to themselves which suited us fine....but if you are looking for late night it might not be the best place.

I definitely want a quiet resort which i'm sure they all are, just not any stuffy ones!
I have a budget of approximately £6000 for the honeymoon and feel I can get a lot more for 10 days, but will try and get 14 days if budget allows. I suppose I don't want to compromise on rooms.
thanks again
Seems to be of a high standard yet alot cheaper than the hilton rangali.
Can anyone compare the two resorts?

for the taj exotica, you have to click the taj lagoon link.
they both sound fab.
Could highly recommend the One and Only Reetha Rah absolutly fantastic
have finally chosen Hilton Rangali, 14 nights bed and breakfast in deluxe beach villa.
Reading various reviews, the deluxe beach villa seem the best.
Wanted half board at first, but am not restricted now with b&b.
Hope its a good trip. Will post my experiences when I come back.
You'll have a great time R33 - any of the top hotels in the Maldives such as Hilton are excellent. Good call going B&B in my opinion that way you can you choose your restaurant.
I have also been looking at the Hilton and am not sure about half board or bed and breakfast. The difference between the two is about £900. Can you tell me how restricted are you for resturants if you choose half board.
£900 is approximately $1500 at the current exchange rate so gives you a budget of almost $110 a night for dinner. Some restaurants will cost much more, but some less like the pizza and pasta at the Markeyplace restaurant - I guess it all depends how often you would choose to pay to eat at one of the other restaurants if you went HB. If it is fairly often then you'd propably be better off booking B&B and just paying for your evening meals.
Thank you for that. We like a variety of meals on holiday so think the B&B option is better.
We are a couple late forties, never tried diving but would like to have a go,like chatting away to people over drinks ,having fun with some entertainment but not into all night discos ,bannana boats ,volleyball ect.
once in a lifetime trip would love to be pampered but not to over the top that it would not feel comfortable,a bit of privacy would be nice with exceptional views.
All the resorts look beautiful so its really hard to choose.
Any suggestions would be really helpful.
You could always try SUN ISLAND (5 Star +)
