Hotel booked for 4 of us March 2009 (2 or 3 more may be booking later), flights to sort out later this year.
The one place we have a great holiday, the one place we love, the one place we will never give up on.
Enough said.

We are already booked for December and really looking forward to spending Christmas with our friends (long termers) over there. We have seen a lot of changes in the years we have been going, but it still hasn't lost it's magic for us, we are now looking at dates in March as our daughter and family want to come with us.

Booked for 3 weeks at the M/D for Feb 09, as we didn't go this year it will be interesting to see how things have changed.A big part of our decision to return is the friends we have made over the years who return year after year to the M/D, and also meeting some members at Lazy Days....Keith

Already booked for Jan 09,but like KJF did not go this year (went to Thailand) so it will be interesting to see just what everyone is writing about, although it would take an awful lot to put me off Goa completely. My OH says I really should keep my mouth shut about how wonderful Goa is and start telling people that outer Mongolia is wonderful(not that we would know!!!)and then perhaps everyone would go there. Will you go beck to Goa?

The answer has to be yes.

A lot is being made of Thailand vs Goa. Having visited Thailand on many occasions, we treat them both as different destinations - different scenery, culture - and there are good and bad areas of both countries.

The up side of Thailand is the quality of the hotels (generally) and the comfort.

I take it that stark really doesn't like Goa

- could refer to both Goa and Thailand!

With regard to food, we enjoy both Thai and Indian/Goan food - but you have to take some care in both countries.

Janet and I have no plans to visit Goa in the next 12 months, but do have plans to go to Thailand.

Put simply - it's not Goa's turn.

My advice to all - try different destinations, they all have their pros and cons.

Enjoy your travels - :offtop and if someone can suggest a great destination, for September / October, other than Bali, please let me know. :offtop

I have to agree with you Pete. You can't really compare Thailand and Goa as they are so different. We like both of them. Also Thailand has far more destinations within it. I'm sure we will return to Goa- I don't have the same bond with it that many do and so can't get so upset with changes. All I know is that I had a great hotel( although very basic compared to Thailand ;) ), loved relaxing on the beach and in the shacks, found some fab places to eat at night and spent very little and the locals I did speak to were very friendly, even those who had nothing to sell :D . I do think that part of the reason everyone has such a cheap holiday is partly due to the infrastructure problems. If Goa gets its act together and sorts out what most people are complaining about, prices will rocket.
I would definitely combine Goa with somewhere else in India though if I had 2 weeks. There is just so many places in the world I want to see. :)

Although I did look at Thailand - Bangkok & Phuket I have rebooked for Goa with Thomas cook airlines premier seats for just over £1500 for 2 week in Feb. Thailand although a better quality hotel came in at £1250 each so we will visit Goa again. It will probably be the last time for 2 years but it worked out £1000 cheaper anf £1000 goes a long way in Goa. Will be my 7th visit and when I no longer vist the thing I will most will the shacks

I do agree Taffy that it is more expensive to visit Thailand than Goa (in most cases) but you do get to travel with excellent scheduled airlines and stay in real luxury hotels , so you do get very good value for money , Phuket is ok but IMHO Ko Samui is better , well worth a try .

The tourism association guy also says in another article that he wants a revue of how late music can be played. I doubt his views will have a direct impact on govenment policy but every little helps

Goa has certainly lost its sparkle.
But we will be returning in October.

Well its 6 months today that I started my last holiday in Goa and despite all the downs, yes I am now hankering to go back
I need to give it just one more go, in all the years I have been going the good does far outweigh the bad and I have had some fantastic memorable holidays.
So my plan is book Sinquerim end, hopefully a private apartment, if anyone has any contacts please could you pm me with details. Spend a few days in the south and another couple of days to the far north. Will avoid the main CCB strip apart from popping to say hello to old friends.
If this year I don't enjoy it then I will 100% know that I am Goa'd out

Well , my last trip to Goa wasn't as I had hoped :cry I had 3 days in bed feeling like I was dying, then when I did get better it rained a lot and the usual blue sky turned a gloomy grey colour :que

But I still want to back , there is still some kind of 'magic' for me and I cannot wait for Xmas day on the beach :cheers
