We decided to eat out one night in a local restaraunt. The girls had pizza which was fine, we had chicken. The meat was red/pink in the middle and although I suffered no ill effects it was not a meal I would wish to repeat. Having spoken to other holiday makers, this is a common experience! We would not wish to visit Bulgaria on a self-catering basis.
The town itself was full of character - plenty of market stalls all offering the same - mostly fake designer jeans/tshirts/sunglasses/caps/jackets/perfume/trainers.
There was always plenty of restaraunt staff trying to lure you into their establishments!
We walked to the beachfront through the marketstreets to find the same at the seaside. Although it offered plenty of restaurants/stalls, it did come across as a little tacky and reminded us of Blackpool/Newquay.
The beach was gorgeous! We walked down in the morning (and the streets seemed more inviting in the morning sunshine!) to the sea. The sunbeds/parasols were plentiful but beware! 25lev for the day which is expensive compared to everything else which is very cheap! There is a rope infront of sunbeds in the sand. If you sit on the sand infront of the rope you pay nothing, so we would advise to take a big blanket etc! Bottles of cola are only 1lev from the stalls on the beach as too are icecreams. This is far cheaper than the hotel!
We took a taxi back to the hotel which cost 10lev - but it was worth it to have a lovely air conditioned car back up the hill!
Will visit Bulgaria again but probably Albena.

Resort was fairly quiet as it is only just the start of the holidays there. However, you cannot knock this place. It is clean, all the staff no matter where you go are friendly. Yes they try and entice you into the bars, but its not in your face as other holiday places are.
There are plently of bars, restaurants, shops for you to browse round and its cheap. You can get a good meal for two, with drinks, for less than 20 quid.
You can go on the beach, but it is the only expensive thing in Golden Sands - costs 25 lev for two beds and parasol.
We went for only one week, but wanted to stay longer. Will definately come back next year.

The resort is Brand New,and nearly every Bar,has live music, after the third week in May.
Food is fabulous, and as cheap as chips.
The beach is clean and wide. However mostly covered with sun loungers, which in my opinion were too expensive.
Be prepared to pay for the Toilets even in the Bars, about 20p
Average price. Beer £1.00.Food £4.00.For a good meal.

We stayed at the Golden Sands Resort. The beach was very clean but you do have to pay for Sun loungers and parasols at around 10 leva per day.
There are plenty of bars and resturants with every type of food from curries to pancakes all at very reasonable prices. Most bars have live entertainment at night.

Golden Sands seems to be continually developing with new hotels and apartments popping up wherever there is space.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink and most open till the early hours. As a resort, I'm sure that there is something for everyone, though I did find the whole place to be orientated towards the german market first.
The number of touts trying to part you with your cash got a bit annoying, and the area by the Golden Dreams (galleon) restaurant being used by several prostitutes was a bit of a surprise!!
Generally though, the resort and beach is clean and places to eat cheap. Taxi to Varna centre is about 20 leva.

We went in low season so things were only just opening up
apart from the beach and lots of restaraunts and shops touting for business.
Depends what you enjoy doing, we're not into the night life much but it was there if you want it with bars, clubs, bowling, loads of restaurants.
Can really recommend jeep safari as a day out. Unless you always use a taxi you have to enjoy walking as the resort is set in the hill side, This is not a negative, you just need to be aware of it.

This was our first holiday in Golden Sands, Bulgaria. Its easy to see that it is still developing as a holiday destination. The shops are likened to our market stalls down each side of the road.
It is worth noting with kids that there are no pavements on some of the roads and the traffic can quickly loom up on you. But having said that the locals don't drive like maniacs.
Plently of places to eat and drink. Which is where I find one of the problems. Outside every cafe or bar there are staff who ask invite you in for something to eat, on many occassions they walk along side you shoving a menu in your face, or handing out leaflets. Even if you walk down the road then back up again 10 minutes later they will ask you again. May be only a slight thing really but it detracts from the relaxing holiday you are looking for.
There are numerous clubs within the resort for those who prefer the night life. One word of caution though, about 20:00hrs the 'ladies of the night' would appear in numbers wearing the clothing that you would not want young children to see.
The beach is very clean, although much of the beach space is taken by water sports (boats and inflatables) and sun beds, which have to be paid for. However you can find space next to the waters edge. The sea is clear and very warm.
On one of the cloudy days we got a taxi to nearby Varna. The trick being not to go for the first taxi you find. The one we eventually took followed us down the road dropping the price as he went.
We visited the small harbour one day where there are replica pirate boats, which the kids liked.
There was much building work around the harbour area, obviously this is as far as the resort had grown at present.
All the locals were very friendly, speaking good english.

St Konstantin is a small and old fashioned resort, that is simple like a walk in the woods! It is quite fascinating. This is a very different holiday to one that you can expect in Mediterranean resorts. Fewer people speak English and their mannerisms are also different. They appear sometimes to be abrupt but I do not believe that they intend to be rude.
I learned a lot about Bulgaria on this visit and intend to return in 2007, although we will be trying a different resort next time.

The resort was still pretty "closed", hence little to report on entertainment but I remember from last year the place is great and very lifely.
This time I got to know some nice places in town, I must say Varna has it's places. Outside the tourism season "hidden" but if you ask you'll surely find nice cafes, restaurants, nightclubs etc.
The people are very friendly, especially the young crowd.
The beach is not the Maledives but nice and clean and there is plenty of space.

We went in October and so I thought there would be a spot of bad weather here and there, but it sunshined everyday.
The beach is very clean but the Black sea is a bit murkey, not as clear as the med, but it was still warmer than our pool at the hotel.
Clothing and gifts where quite cheap, we where harangued a bit by the locals to come in the shops, restaurants etc.
All in all a good holiday but Ive done Bulgaria now and if I did come back it would be in the far flung future!
