We enjoyed our visit to Pathos, although if you are a beach lover it probably is not for you. Having said that, Coral bay has a lovely beach and is not too far away and there is a regular bus service. We were on a self catering holiday, and were glad that we were, because there is a wonderful selection of restaurants - everything you could wish for is there, from Chinese (try The Pagoda, on the outskirts of the eating area, but well worth looking for, or The Imperial if you can't find it!)to Indian, Italian and traditional Greek. If you wish to sample the traditional, The Vines Bistro and Bar (opposite Othello's) is wonderful for true atmosphere - live music every night, and if you're lucky, you may get serenaded by one of the waiters on his violin!! The same waiter also bursts into dance when the greek music strikes up! On one of the nights we visited a regular, rather elderly local man took the microphone and treated us to a greek version of karaoke and put us all to shame with his agility at demonstrating greek dancing with the waiter!! A night to remember - the food is excellent as well!!. Lots of fish restaurants too. Pathos is an excellent base for exploring the west of the island - a visit to Latchi is well worth it - it has a really pretty harbour area. The Aphrodite water park was much enjoyed by the two teenagers in our party, as was the aquarian. The Tombs of the Kings is worth a visit, but very hot, so give it a miss at mid-day.

Coral Bay beach 10-15 mins on the bus, 10 mins by taxi was excellent. The beach near the Land of the Kings was disgusting with raw sewerage being pumped into it. The resort entertainment was fairly good. The cleanliness cannot be commented on as a vast amount of building work is being carried out, which is a danger as pipes and slabs of concrete were left standing out everywhere. At the present time I don't want to revist as feel let down, greatly by Thomsons. I am not however leaving my complaint to just this as I want some apology of how this holiday was sold to ourselves. The rep was a total waste of time.

Having not been to Paphos before we were very pleased when we arrived. The resort was much bigger than expected, clean and catered very well for tourists.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants throughout the resort with everything from traditional Greek cuisine to Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants. We ate at most of the higher end restaurants where a 3-course meal for two with wine was costing around £60CYP. You can also eat much cheaper than this if you have children etc.
As said many times, if you want a good beach then head up to Coral Bay, it was a little too busy for my tastes but fairly clean excluding all the cigarette ends - I have nothing against smokers but they should respect the beach and take their rubbish with them!
The only reason for not visiting Paphos before was the fact that I know a lot of people have retired to Paphos and that it supposedly catered for the older person. Not true. Despite the fact that the queue for the flight was comprised of 90% pensioners, the resort itself was very mixed.
There were also some very lively bars, i.e. Bubbles (expect to get ripped off in this one) where the average age was about 16-17 - if you want it.
All in all a great place and will probably be visiting again next September, when I get back from Mexico :-)

We only went into Paphos Harbour one evening and were quite disappointed. We ate at a fish restaurant called the Pelican and the food was very average. We were quite shocked when 2 pelicans were actually paraded through the restaurant while people were eating.
We didn't venture down to the Harbour again but went out to some restaurants and bars along The Tomb of The Kings Road which wasn't too far from our hotel and enjoyed our experiences there.

The resort of Paphos is lovely quite a 'grown up' place
the people are very friendly and really cant do enough for you - everything is so relaxed.
The beach near the Avanti isnt that great but is OK if you just want to lie there on a sunbed and cook!
I would definatly go tp Pahos again in fact already in the process of booking now for next May!!!

We were staying at Kefalonitis Apartments just off Tomb of the Kings Road. There are many good restaurants nearby our favourites were Piatsa Greka (opposite Zorba's) Metaxas (Ted, the barman from our apartments, wife Helen is head wine waitress there)and Raffles.
We only had one bad meal and that was at Jackie-Mas Chinese you would think that chicken chow mein would have had some chicken in it! both meals were cold complained but no great response so left 5c tip as a mark of disgust.
We are not beach lovers and the poor beach did not bother us
Best sports bar for watching football is Yiamas, nice big screens. We trekked all around Paphos to find a bar showing Livingston v Hearts and ended up at the Jaggy Thistle bar near Bar Street I have been in some hovels in my time but surely nothing will ever surpass this place - it is minging. To be fair the owner Chris (ex squaddie from Glasgow)was a really decent guy and went out his way to be friendly, even when the Arab channel showing the game delayed its coverage he managed to get the game on the radio so me and the other Hearts supporters there had to make do with listening to the 3 goals winging in before the tv joined in after 30 minutes. Will never forget the place especially the stairs and the toilets!
Sightseeing, if you like mosaics etc is excellent. Kourion, the Paphos Mosaics are a must, admission not expensive and if you want to visit the Tombs of the Kings go on a Sunday - its free! There are lots of other sites in Paphos such as catacombs, old churches that you cant help stumbling across.
It was also near the end of the Paphos Aphrodite festival and Sandra was delighted to be able to go to the Opera at Paphos Castle a quite magnificent setting for La Traviata.
From the Jaggy Thistle to the Opera quite a diverse and excellent holiday!
Will return there without doubt.

Paphos is a very friendly resort. It is not cheap but is full of good bars and restaurants. You'd need ten holidays to try all the good ones and they are all brit friendly. It is a good size with plenty to do.The harbour is lovely and there are some nice nearby villages ie Pissouri. For food during the day we'd recommend Theos at the harbour and Yemens by the municipal beach. At night we'd recommend The Almond tree near Nereus hotel and The Vines in the same street. There's loads of good bars around the apts and Coral Bay is a great beach and only pennies on the bus.
