Take a torch for night-time. Returning to the hotel at night is dangerous.

Get a ground room floor as it will help as there are no lifts to the other floors so it can be a bit of a walk with a pram.
Make sure on the strip you visit the Meze restaurant with the funny symbols in the name. It is one of the best Meze places in Protaras. Also Molti was a great restaurant to stay in.

Beaches

the resort itself was beautiful. the beach was very clean and not to crowded but was very shingley. it was great for water sports jet ski, water skiing, bananna boats, snorkeling and scuba diving. we tried them all and we were very inpressed with the local scuba diving shop, the tutition we received for our first dive was excellent. the entertainment in protaras town was brilliant with many different bars shops to choose from and stayed open late(apart from sunday when all the shops were closed)the staff in the bars and shops were very friendly and spoke very good english. the greenery pub and the square pub is a must for a great nights entertainment, sounds corny but elvis and tom jones were very good and very funny. i Tthink we would go back some time in the future.

The resort is just outside the main town of Protaras so it is quite quiet but a taxi ride is around £3 or a 20 minute walk. There is plenty of entertainment in the hotel but no so much in the resort.
Having said that the beach by the hotel (Marlita beach) has a good water sports business with Jet Skis, banana boats and Paragliding but there is only space for around 60 people on the very small sandy cove. The main beaches are a 10-15 minute walk away.
The beach is clean but small which is why I scored it a '2'
We are going back again next year as this is the best holiday I have ever had and would recommend the Papantonia to anyone along with Protaras which although it's only 8 miles from Ayia Napa it's a different world

The resort has something for everyone. Although we seemed to have booked during the main cypriot holiday season and lots of locals were at the resort on holiday too. So it was pretty hectic in the main centre at night. There are loads of different restaurants including McDonalds and a chippie. Our favourite restaurant was right next door to the apartments, it was called Nissiotis. Although not the cheapest it was still reasonably priced and the food was excellent and plentiful. To add to that it was overlooking the beach and had a fantastic view. The worst restaurant we found was the chinese on the main street in the centre, it was called the Mandarin. 8 of us ate there and I think we were in the restaurant for a total of 20 minutes. It was extremely rushed, the portions were very small and the price very expensive - it was the most expensive meal we had and the worst. We took a boat trip to the outskirts of Famagusta and then back to Cape Greco where you could swim in the sea for a while, it was well worth the money. Cant remember the name of the boat but it was the smaller one - Captain something - not the bigger Coca cola boat. An excellent holiday and we would definitely return.

THe hotel we stayed in was in the main resort, although there are a fair few bars, they all seem to show the same entertainment being Elvis, Tom Jones or Karoke. The resort centre was very clean. There was good entertainment in the Only Fools & Horses bar of a Friday and Monday, a guy called Jimmy Spender who played anything which was requested. We went to Fig Tree Bay which looked a nice beach if you could see any of it, with the amount of sun loungers on it. Not enough up to date entertainment. Resort needs to move with the times.

The resort was clean but I can't comment on the entertainment. The bars in the area to the hotel were quite empty apart from when England played Austria and our hotel couldn't get the game.
The beach in front of the hotel wasn't really any good to sit for the day to swim etc. If you walked for about 15/20 mins to the right of the hotel you reach Protaras and the beach there is great. The sea was calm and lovely to swim in.
I would have no problem visiting this resort again.

Protaras is extremly clean. I saw not one single piece of litter around the town. There are a range of places from light, laser and water shows to water parks and watersports. The beaches are excellent, very clean, not too busy and there is a wide range of good beaches near by. The sea is crystal clear an very shallow in a lot of parts so good for children. I would deffinatly come back to this resort.

Brilliant resort and well worth staying at the Vangelis just to be central 'Gettho Bar' is a brilliant night spot with cocktails for £1cyp from 6.00 till 10.00
Lots of great shops and brilliant restaurants and even a Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC and if that isn't enough there's b52 a cocktail bar, Friends bar (play friends on dvd all day and night)and Only Fools and Horses which plays that on dvd all night.
Brilliant location to be in something for everyone including a beach that the water is clearer than most swimming pools and brilliant for spending the day at
