We stayed in Anissaras, which was very built up, but to be honest, our hotel was a few minutes walk to the beach front, and we loved our hotel so much, Hotel Aloi, that we rarely went along the beach front. We did go to the beach in the day, and it was very nice. A little rocky, but other than that, it was nice. I would only go back to same resort if I stayed in Hotel Aloi again.

Star Beach at Hersonissos is a must - fantastic place. Loads to do at the beach and great nitelife!

Anissaras is a small town outside of hersonissos, peaceful, not overly commercially spoilt yet, good for a relaxing break with nice walks along the beach front. Beach is man made but made well. Excellent Aqua park 3km away for €20 per adult - great to chill out and cool down and act like kids again. Overall great place away from the 'Malia' type resort, couldnt fault it would go back.

Hersonissos has every thing for every one, great beaches, great food, great booze, great locals. If you want night life head into town, beach fun gets better on star beach and plenty of friendly tavernas.

Crete - is an amazing beautiful place, lovely people, lovely beaches, i would love to live here. Food is great as are the bars and the variety of things to do. Not commercial at all although as with ay resort there is a commercial element. Shops are great too as my girlfriend will testify!!! Been going to Crete for years and I am in love with the place, its dreamy!!

Koutouloufari is a fantastic location; up the steep hill from the noise and bustle of Hersonissos, and on the same level to walk to all the lovely tavernas and good quality restaurants of Koutouloufari and Piskopiano, also the village of Old Hersonissos.
As clean as any other places we have been - the hot weather obviously leads to smelly rubbish and drains in parts, also lots of stray cats and dogs.
the beaches are good - we went to the nearby Anissaras beach nearly every day.
we would definitely stay in this resort again, but in a smaller building or villa next time.

Again, i think it was due to the time of year we visited. Most of the shops were closing as were the bars and restaurants. However, the beach in Stalis looked horrid and dirty. Hersonissos was nicer, with several small coves and clear water much better!
I would not recommend these resorts for families with small children aged 5 - 10 as there is not enough to keep them entertained.
Ideal for active/mobile couples who enjoy a stroll, read a book then head off to a restaurant. Go there!
