Very short walk to the local beach down a path, lots of sunbeds, you choose where you go, they have beds on the sand or on a area further along near a rocky bay.
There is watersports available, and a few snack bars, and a family run supermarket, which make there own produce as well.
Although the hotel is down as Hersonnosis, if you turn left from hotel, just 10 minutes and you are in Stalis, which is really nice.
Overall a nice resort for couples and familes. Not really suited for the Malia crowd.

Piskopiano is located up a steep hill from Hersonissos. There are a few bars but they arent very good. There are a few nice restaurants but I would try the other villages of Old Hersonissos and Koutalfari instead for nice food. I was very sick after eating in one of the greek restaurants in Piskopiano. The resort is suited to big groups of 18 - 20 year olds going on the lash and who do not require much sleep!

The resort is located on a headland a couple of miles outside Heronissos. It has its own beach which has a European Blue Flag which means its clean and safe to swim. Just watch out for the rocks some of them can be very sharp under foot! The beach is more a fine Gravel than fine sand but there are plenty of sun loungers with shade for every two of them.
The town of Heronossis is only worth a visit to pick up a few souviners otherwise stay away from it. Its overcrowded, dirty and full of scooters and quad bikes with 'young brits on tour' at the controls. Very hot in second week of August and would think that if any tours or sightseeing was wanted then give yourself two weeks, 1 to get used to heat and the other to explore this ancient land.
I have already booked for next year.

we were supprised at how clean the resort was kept during our stay, the entertainment was great for us we had a great time in all the bars/clubs and resturants the only thing we didnt like so much was the size of the beachs they could do with siving the sand aswell to remove sticks/bottle tops and rubish we are in the process of booking the same holiday for next year...

Anissaras is quiet and civilised - with enough tavernas to keep you going for a week, really. I travelled alone and as a 30-something female I was so impressed that I didn't get any hassle from any of the locals, and there wasn't a "Brits Abroad" feel to the holidaymakers who were there either. I could go to the beach (no beach sellers that I witnessed) have a spot of lunch in one of the tavernas that face the beach without feeling a) like a leper or b) like a piece of meat.
Sand/shingle beach - didn't sample the sea but made use of the powerful showers dotted around - very refreshing! The road runs immediately behind the beach but wasn't busy or fast,(nice in the evenings if you can't be bothered to go to Hersonissos)
As I was familiar with Hersonissos I happily visited a few nights during my stay (about 10 euros in a cab from the apartments) and even 3 months on from my previous visit I was welcomed like an old friend by many of the restaurant staff we encountered before. It was really something. I know that's how they make their living but somehow it felt sincere. Hersonissos is a bustling town, a bit seasidey for me but there are some great restaurants by the waterfront which would be a shame to miss.
Stay in Anissaras for lazy days and peaceful sleeps at night, with the option of venturing into Hersonissos for a bit of half decent shopping or a livelier night with a huge choice of eateries. Best of both worlds!

I didn't do much in the resort as our hotel was all inclusive but there was plenty to do and was in a good location to explore other parts of the island.

Koutoulufari and Hersonissos are interesting and vibrant places although for a fsmily I'd reckon they'd be better to visit, than to stay in, unless you wanted the buzz of a busy location with all facilities to hand. Try to get accomodation on the outskirts!
Never seen so many quad bikes in one place, although had they been cars, the tight streets of these two resorts would no doubt come to a complete standstill.
The local beaches are very orientated to younger holidaymakers, although worth a quick visit; get a car (or quad!) and strike out for the relative peace of the many more distant beaches.
As a base for checking out thde wider island, these two resorts are as good a bet as any other resorts on the island.
