Hersonissos is a very relaxing place to visit. Head for the main street and you will pay more for meals. Walk up into the villages for a relaxing meal and 20% cheaper.
Walk past Star Beach to the childrens pools area and there is a Taverna overlooking the pool. Great entertainment and good food which is also cheaper than the town.
Be wary of the boat trips from the harbour to Sissi. Most days they only go as far as Malia and you finish up in the Water Park which is small and crowded with 18-30's.
Try the Happy Trains. 3 different tours but OK if your legs are a bit wobbly. 1 round Hersonissos, 1 to Malia and 1 to Sun Beach (twice a day only) Enjoyed every minute and will go back next year.

What a beautiful village! We enjoyed sitting in Emmanuels watching all the "kids" marching off down to the bright lites. If you are in your forties plus and have done it all before then this is the place for you. Fab food, nice little shops to have a browse, and lovely weather then you could'nt ask for anything more.

Frankly Hersonissos looked like my kind of hell so didn't visit, but if you're young and into clubbing and bars, there's plenty to do.

Clean, well organised resort facilities, mainly geared for younger generation with many clubs in the main town of Hersonnissos, although no problem for older or families either as plenty of bars and restaurants - traditional and otherwise are here also.
Good central location for visiting other resorts and attractions.

The resort is very quiet being a long way out of Hersonnisos with maybe 3 or 4 sread out bars outside of the hotel with beer costing approx 2.50 euros for a large one. There is no entertainment outside of hoteland the beach is not of a good standard with the sea being very rocky. There are quite a few supermarkets to choose from.

The resort area was very clean and a mulitude of bars and restaurants can be found although prices are somewhat higher than nearby malia.
The town has a good variety of shops.
The beach areas are not great and we tended to go out of town to stallis and a couple of days further afield to elounda.

Hersonissos is undoubtedly a good place to go for a holiday,it seems to cater very well for all types. On the one hand it has a fair number of night clubs and bars etc. But also has countless restraunts serving excellent food.
There is a real buzz about the place at night without it being in any way opressive or threatening.
There is a beach although not really a vast sandy expanse, boat trips are plentiful, we hired a small jeep and found it easy to travel quite extensively on the island, the trips to the plateau, Elounda and Spinalonga were highlights.

Hersonissos nearst major town usual bars along the sea front all trying to entice you in it pays to shop around for music, happy hours specials. Star beach is worth a visit or two as all the water sports are there as well as long narrow beach. The buses to and from our hotel were hard to make out as some would pick you up other were express and others would only drop you off at certain points. Taxis were numerous but get a price before getting in.
