Cancun is great for shopping, either in the malls or in the markets, you must haggle when shopping in the markets, as there are no prices on items. The markets can be frustrating due to the locals continuously trying to get your attention in order to buy their goods, which are either leather goods, silver, ponchos, sombreros, or basic souvenirs, such as ashtrays, pens etc.
We found Cancun to be quite expensive, or should i say not cheap like some European countries, prices were similar to home, if not slightly dearer.
Cancun has a fantastic bus service, which is very cheap, and very fast. buses are every 5 minutes 24 hours a day, just ensure you pick out a familiar building or site to remember, for when you need to get off the bus, as the driver does not stop at every bus stop and the buses are usually packed so it can take time for you to get off the bus.
Entertainment in Cancun is great it just depends on which pub/club you choose to go to. We enjoyed Pat O'Briens pub, and the Coco Bongo club is a must for all, the show is fantastic!!!!!
Cancun beach - wow, its beautiful, white sands, turquoise ocean, what more can be said. The beach does have many hotels around it so it can be busy, and also has watersports available at a cost.
You can pay for activities throughout your holiday, either through your holiday rep, or by checking out prices from local independent sellers, who may give you a better deal.
Xcaret - Fantastic day out, go snorkelling in the river, pay a bit extra and you can scuba dive or swim with dolphins. We set off to go to Xcaret at 9am, i advise you to go at 7am as we were pushing for time near the end, for the spectacular mexican show, which is great.
Swim with dolphins - we paid that little extra to spend 7 hours training with dolphins, definately a must, just dont do it at the aquarium, as the dolphins are just kept in a pool, we did it at wet and wild and in a sectioned part of the ocean, really really enjoyable.
Jungle tour (choice of speed boat or jetski) - depends on who you go with, we did it at the marina, and it was great, half an hour speed boating then half an hour snorkelling at the 2nd largest coral reef in the world, then speed boat back, our tour guide was great, although we spoke with others who had done the jungle tour elsewhere and who had said that their guide wasnt good.
Chichen Itza - Mayan ruins and pyramid - was a great day out, learning about the mayan history, and climbing the pyramid, once you go up you must come down, not for people with fear of heights, it is very steep, but has a great view once up there. Great experience!!
Feed the sharks - At the Aquarium - You go in a small clear tank and go down to feed the sharks, your head is above water and you can use the snorkel to watch the sharks, it was a good experience.
We enjoyed all the activities (at an extra cost), and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Cancun is a great holiday resort, and yes i would go back !!!!!

Obviously there are only certain parts of Cancun that are developed and be prepared to see how the local people live (you see this less than a mile from your hotel)and their culture.
I think this has to be seen to get a real taste of Mexico, however some scenes I found were quite upsetting.
The resort I found to be clean with lots of entertainment on offer in the centre and the beaches were fabulous.

The beach was lovely, although it was hard to relax as the animation team played loud music allday.
Be warned - do not eat on the beach as you will be attacked by seagulls.
Many friends have enjoyed holidays in Mexico but unfortunately our experience at this hotel has now put us off retuning to Mexico.

In our opinion the resort of Cancun can only be described as paradise. The most beautiful beaches, wonderful reasurants, bars and clubs. The chance to swim with Dolphins at La Isla was such an amazing experience. The bus service was unbeliveably frequent, stopping anywhere along the "hotel zone" and so cheap. We feel that our trip to Cancun was the holiday of a lifetime ans we would lovw to return again in the near future.
So what are you waiting for, book now and see for yourselves!!

The resort of Cancum is lovely, the beach area surrounding the hotel was very poor for swimming.

Cancun itself is very built up for Americans and very commercialised, a fantastic resort, but not very 'Mexican! It is very purpose built, very modern but overall lovely
the nightlife is amazing the clubs are some of the best I have been to in the world - especially Coco Bongos, where the mask was filmed!! What an experience!
The best way to go out is with the entertainment staff from the hotel after the main show = you pay $20 and that gets you in a massive club and you don't pay for any drinks - bargain! This happens every night, you pay and entry fee for the club and its then all inclusive = its worked really well too that each club has its night of being busy and the place to go.

We had a fantastic time at Coco Bongos you have to go, 20 dollars and all you can drink waiter service too the shows are amazing, you have to see it.

Cancun is beautiful, the beaches are gorgeous (exactly like a postcard) and it is very lively and has everything you could possibly want to do. My only advice, especially if you are british,is if you have smaller children there is not much for them to do, you would be better taking them to spain or even a haven park as there is no entertainment for them..it is all geared for singles and older couples..also the Water park Wet n Wild does not have any rides for children under 1metre and 7 cms. My son is 4 years old and could not go on anything apart from the kids splash pool.
Please do not take any of these comments as negative, I would still go back, just when my children are a little older... However, Cancun and the Costa Real and lovely.

We travelled as family and could not visit many of nightlife spots but overall resort was clean and beaches were lovely but people a bit pushy in flea markets to get you into their shops

Even though the resort had just been hit by hurricane Jean it was surprisingly clean. The only downside was the beach wasn't up to it's usual standards so the locals said.
The resorts entertainment was spot on something for everyone, we had good day trips out and fun all night at pubs clubs and restaurants
