There is quite a few snobbish remarks about this hotel. Me, My girlfriend and two friends arrived on the 23rd of June, 2005.
We were shocked at the cleanliness and warm welcome we received on arrival.

Me and my boyfriend have just got back from an amazing holiday in Albufeira. We went last minute on a cheapie deal so we didnt have high expectations, but the Perola was much better than we could have imagined! The appartments were probably the biggest i have stayed in (there were only two of us and they sleep 4 so i guess with 4 people in them they feel smaller). There is a bedroom with big wardobes and dressing table, a bathroom with a nice sized bath/shower, and a living room which has dining room and kitchen combined. This was very spacious and very nicely furnished with two pull out beds. The TV had a few good channels including BBC1 for tose who cant bear to miss Eastenders! The kitchen area was a bit on the small side and could do with a 4 ring hob rather than 2, but there was plenty of utensils. a small cupboard had mop, buckets, brushes etc in. The balcony was a nice size and we were in 601 so had a lovely view over the pool area and out to the sea in the distance.
The hotel pool area was nice but i can imagine it would be a bit crowded in the summer months because it is a bit on the small side. One of the ways of getting to the pool is through an inside car park which seems very strange and was a bit creepy. The snack bar by the pool had lovely food- 4 euros gets you double egg,2 sausages and fries.
The indoor pool and other facilites are located on floor 0 (which is a bit hard to find at first as different lifts take you to different areas so some dont list floor 0). We found the fitness center to be a bit disapointing, the pool was small and had a very low ceiling which made it very claustrophobic. The jacuzzi was also very cold.
The location of the hotel was good in the sense that it was exactly half way between the old town and 'the strip'. The Modelo shopping center directly opposite the hotel was great!(apart from the stink of the bins when you walk past.) When u are staying self catering you need a place like this near by. it had lots of really nice fashion shops on the first floor and a big supermarket on the 2nd and 3rd floors. It also had a food court with Pizza Hut, a burger bar and a sandwich shop. The hotel isnt as close to the beach as we would have liked. If there was a direct path behind the hotel then it would have been closer. The hotel did put on a free bus to the beach but we didnt use it because the walk was nice (about 5-10mins)To get a taxi to anywhere in albufeira costs 5 euros every time, which is great and saves worrying about how much the fare will be.
Overall i would definately recommend this hotel as it is clean, spacious, in a good location and the staff are very friendly! We are considering going back next year as we enjoyed so much.

We booked to stay at the Perola over the internet & I have to say that I was initially disappointed on arrival - I had expected something more spectacular for a four star rating.
We were initially placed on the 6th floor with probably the best views from any of the rooms, however we have 3 small children who love to climb so we requested a room change as the balcony seemed too tempting for them! The staff were very good about changing rooms, although we did have to wait until the following day to move - bear this in mind if you have small children and request low floors on booking! The bedroom was quite spacious with ample wardrobe space and a dressing table. The bathroom was also ample with a WC, bidet, shower over bath and basin - although it is obvious that the hotel (and its fittings!) have been around for some time. The toilet seat had seen better days as had some of the grouting that obviously would never come completly clean. The living room couch converted to two single beds and also had a TV (you pay locally for the remote) and inc'd sky TV & CBeebies channels! The kitchen area was small & basic with no kettle or microwave. The balcony was small but had a table & chairs, our balcony got the sun in the morning, but was not large enough to sunbath on.
The pool area was neat & tidy with poolside snacks being served. The food was reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly, polite and spoke very good English. The pool itself was very clean with a separate kids pool although it was freezing cold in April (the kids didn't seem to mind!)

Our first ever holiday abroad was last year. We stayed here at the Perola and loved it. Very friendly staff and apartments were airy, spacious and clean. We loved it so much we went back this year.
Celio the entertainment manager was great with our son, as were Fatima the receptionist and Carlos the night reception guy.
We only ate in the restaurant on a couple of occasions and the food wasn't up to much. There are much nicer places to eat in the old town or up the road (there is a smashing self service place where the food is weighed and sold by the kilo. Full of Portugese so must be good).
All in all we couldn't have asked for more for our first and second foreign holiday experiences and look forward to returning in a few years time, but whenever we go, we will happily return to the Perola.

This hotel was fantastically located. I can't think of much better than to be self catering and not to have to walk an age with groceries, so the huge supermarkert literally on your doorstep I thought was great.
We had a one bedroom appt, it was very spacious and clean. The staff were ok, not fair to comment as didn't really come into contact with them much but when we did they were helpful and polite.
This hotel is ideally situated within walking distance of both the new and old town, and the beach. Although for those with difficulties mobilsing a taxi might be better.
Enjoyed this so much when I was expecting we are visting with our child now she's 14 months!

I was initially disappointed with I arrived at the Perola as it is situated behind a large shopping centre and the bins stink! However, once you have gone into the hotel its a different story. All of the hotel rooms face in towards the pool so the view is very nice. It was a short stroll to the beach and about 10 minutes either way to the old or new town. The room was extremely clean and although I didn't use the cups/plates etc they were all spotless. The staff were lovely and the head receptionist could not have been more friendly.
We booked our tours through First Choice but if we ever went back again I would book them with the hotel as they were the same thing but cheaper.

Stayed for one week in one roomed apartment. Very clean, nicely furnished and has fairly basically equipped kitchen area. Daily maid service for bins and checking towels. Cleaned twice in week and beds also changed twice. All rooms have balcony either overlooking

I have just returned from this hotel on 15/7/04. It was the worst 4 star hotel I have ever been in. To get this rating it should be well maintained, clean and be of a good quality - This hotel was none of these. My initial impression of the hotel was that it was run down and as soon as I inspected my room I could tell that the hotel was of the same standard throughout. I did not want to spend my Holiday there but I did not get moved as apparently I had booked a '4 sun' hotel, through 1st choice holidays and it is based on facilties not quality. I have read the other reports and cannot believe that other guests enjoyed their stay at the Perola. I would strongly advise giving this Hotel a miss until it undergoes an upgrade. I hope my complaint gets actioned as I would not like other holiday makers to experience this Hotel as I did not find that it was kept clean or well maintained even if it had a 3 star rating. The location is good and you will find many other excellent hotels in the vacinity.

We (my husband, baby and I) have just returned from the Perola and we had a fantastic holiday.
The meals we had in the restaurant were OK and sometimes better than OK. We are vegetarians and there was always at least 1 veggie option. The staff in the restaurant were really friendly and helpful. They were all brilliant with our little 1 & 1/2 year old little girl.
I agree with some of the comments made about first impressions of the Perola. It doesn't look like a 4* when you first see it but as soon as you walk through the doors and see the facilities in the rooms things start looking up. I would rate the aparthotel at a 3* not a 4* and if you are expecting luxury it's probably not the place for you but it suited us just fine.
The location of the hotel was fine for us as we like to walk and there was a bus from the hotel to the beach available to people who didn't want to walk 15 minutes to the nearest beach. The position of the Perola makes it easy to access the Old Town and 'The Strip' areas of Albufeira.
The cleanliness of the hotel was mostly good.
It's a shame that the hotel pool is not heated as it looked very inviting but one dip in the cold water with the big toe made us shiver and shy away. Only a few teenages were brave enough to jump in.
One of the best things about our room was the ability to watch cbeebies and other British TV channels. It meant we could keep up to date with the news and our little girl could get her daily Teletubbies fix!
If I decided to revisit Albufeira I would consider staying at the Perola Do Algarve again.
