The resort is very upmarket. The marina is full of fantastic yachts, porsches, bentleys, ferraris etc etc. The beach is lovely (but the sea is freezing!) I would definitely visit Vilamoura again, but I don't think it was the most exciting place for our teenagers.

The resort is manmade and very very expensive. Very expensive to eat out.
Lovely beach but have to pay 12.50 euros to hire loungers for half a day!
Not much at the resort except bars, restaurants and expensive designer shops.
I definitely recommend the Maharaja Indian restaurant beautiful cuisine and lovely service. If you want to waste a few hours then just go to Capriccio restaurant (Italian) on the marina, I am not exaggerating it takes about 30 minutes to even get someone to come over and give you a menu! We waited an hour for our meal!

A lovely resort with a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. We had a lovely time walking around the marina and trying the various eateries. There is also a good selection of shops, but on the whole they can be expensive. If you travel to Quarteira a few miles away, shopping is definitley cheaper.

We took the local bus to Faro and had a lovely day looking around the old town and inevitable the shops and bars.

If I had to make one negative point it would be the beggars who seemed to be around everywhere you go and try to make you feel guilty if you don't cough up. apart from that, an excellent resort

Lovely beach, great marina. You do get a bit jealous of the superb yachts. Plenty of bars and restaurants serving good quality food. Will definitely go back.

Resort seems to be going from a reasonably quiet upmarket place (10 years ago) to a bit of a livelier place that seems to be catering for the large groups of golfers who frequent the resort and whilst the Karaoke bars seem to be dwindling, the girly bars are definately on the up!
Not such a great thing for the place, but I suppose if they are making it pay, it won't go away!

vilamoura is a very quiet town with all the entertainment being down at the marina. the resteraunts were a little more expensive than your usual holiday destination but the food was first class especially the stakes in the oustra doura I think that is what it was called. we were there on a golfing break and it was full of golfers so at night the bars were packed we really liked Oneills where the drink flowed and there was always somebody singing all in all a smashing we resort that I would like to visit again either with golfing pals or my wife. ps very little for the kids.

Loved Vilamoura, something for everyone. We golfed, the women and children hit the beach (still sunny!) shopped etc. There's a really good little place under the olympus hotel on the main avenida called SHAKESPEARES, cant recommend this enough, great food service and entertainment-elvis show on a monday is fantastic. we even saw the irish actor who plays 'Harper' in the Sharpe series on TV there, also the commedian who used to be in brookside (cant remember his name) and the film crew that were filming the portugal masters were there-so pay a little visit to 'Shakes' and make sure if you want the home made steak pie you book and reserve it as it sells out really fast. Its the only place we found where we felt comfortable and welcome, suppose as it has mainly english staff!

We also went to the town of Loulé on the saturday for the gypsy market, then walked into the main town which is full of lovely old buildings and great little shops and cafes.

Vilamoura is a terrific location as a base, we will definately be returning there....and to shakespeares!

We liked the marina area very much. Plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Within a few hours of being there we realized we would need to hire a car, got a good deal from Budget car hire just opposite the Dom Pedro Marina hotel. We did not spend any time lying down on the beach but all the beaches we did visit up and down the coastline looked to be very clean with lovely sand.

We went to Zoomarine and did an interactive session with the dolphins, although expensive, we felt is was a great experience. The park itself is good especially if you have smaller children.

Our only criticisms would be that the area is very much geared up for groups of golfers with not a lot else to do.

Around the marina area there are a lot of good restaurants, but, sadly the vast majority had the usual large screen TV's showing continuous sports channels, which is fine if you like that sort of thing, but, we were looking for reasonable entertainment (not karaoke), which was in very short supply.

There were a horrendous amount of common flies in October, could not sit and eat a meal outside without being infested by them. We could not understand where they all came from as the resorts and streets were very clean and tidy with no obvious source for their existence.

We would go back to Vilamoura again, but as we are non golfers, we would only stay for a maximum of 1 week and car hire is a must.
