Stayed at the Hotel in last two weeks in May. The rooms are basic and a safe costs 2.5 euros per day to hire. You also have to pay for a fridge but we didn't bother so don't know how much they cost. The sheets fall off the bed while you sleep. Found the staff to be very friendly. Food was great for a three star hotel. Impressed with the drinks too. Kids were not so impressed but survived on junk food. Lifts were not a problem as we were on the first floor, but if you are on one of the middle floors you may find them tiresome. The pools are for players and not swimmers. The beach is wonderful. The Thomson reps are great with the kids. You can leave them for hours, while you do your own thing, then you have to drag them away to give the reps a rest. The Thomson shows aren't that great but I did enjoy Messy Jessie's efforts. The hotels animation team are top notch. The infamous Zorro has mastered his art. He will have you in stitches and you will love participating in some of the evening entertainment that he has arranged for you. Eva transforms into a wonderful clown for the mini-disco. She really is lovely. I'm a bit of a fitness nut and I have to say that the gym is not that good and the mountain bikes need a service. There is a very friendly atmosphere about this place and families seem to return regularly. It's not a pullers paradise but it's a little gem for a value for money holiday in the sun for a young family. Be prepared to drag your kids kicking and screaming to the airport when you leave. PS I hate paragraphs.

We went for a chilled out break and this is what we got. The hotel was very clean, staff were constantly cleaning. The restaurant and reception staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a great variety of food and no one would not find something they could eat - it was fresh and was contantly replenished throughout the service. Wine/Beer/and a selection of cold soft and hot drinks were available for all meal times. The Western Saloon did snacks from 12 to 6 and these were also cooked to order. Kids had their own self service bar at their height which was good and healthy. Location is above the beach, which gave a lovely view all around the cove. The lifts were very useful and not too long a wait given the number of guests. The beach was cleanish, the water crystal clear with shoals of 3 different bream within 3 foot of the edge of the water. There is a steep sand shelf about 4/5 foot out, but the fish were just everywhere and were not in the least bit bothered about swimmers. The entertainment stopped at 11.00 which then quietend the whole resort down.

The hotel was very clean, our room was cleaned daily. It looks like the rooms have had an update with pleasent furnishings and very spacious, the balcony was huge. we stayed in the hotel which does mean more steps to climb!!! I do think the hotel is in a better position with fabulous views, the beach club did seem a 2 star compared to the hotel 3 star. The food was good with the restaurant staff being very pleasent. They do try with themed nights like the wild west and spanish nights, the staff dress up to support these this. The one thing that did put us off a little was seeing a cockcroach in the dining room at breakfast. We have been abroad many times and this is the first time I,ve seen one, we also saw one at the bottom of a flight of stairs on its back. how big and ugly are they!!!. The all inclusive is brilliant but you do have little plastic cups for drinks day and night which don't hold a lot if your having a beer, if your having a short its great. The hotel staff were mainly very helpful and pleasent, there was one barman at the hotel who was a little miserable. The entertainment was very good and Zorro did make you laugh, but he did get many brits backs up particular the english with his constant insults towards us. If your a big football fan cover your ears when he speaks you can guarantee he will insult you, he likes to say England is the country with no national football team, and he comes from Belgium. I wouldn't go to this resort again only because we've been here now and enjoyed our holiday, and we would like to try a somewhere different. There also isn't a lot for teenagers to do, and we want to be able to have a lye in and not get up at 6am to get a sunbed.

Just back from a 2 week stay and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
There were a few down sides to this hotel:-
The lifts are a nightmare! We were on 5th floor with a baby and 2 young children. We could stand there for up to 20mins trying to get to either the restaurant or the pool.
The air conditioning desperately needs replacing-it's very noisy and can only be switched on when you are in the room-means you go into a sauna when you first go into your room and it takes a good 30mins for the temp to come down again! My daughter also ended up with a chest infection due to this antiquated system.
Definately the worst point has nothing to do with the hotel itself but with the most selfish holidaymakers I have ever seen in my life!!!! All sunbeds by the pools were taken by 7am.People were setting their alarms, getting up to put towels on the beds, then going back to sleep. They were then not seen again til well after 1pm. This happened every single day by a very large number of people. I complained to the Thomson rep who (suprise, suprise) did nothing. Also, parasols get stolen if you turn your back for a few minutes. we were there with a very young and very sick baby and people STILL took our parasol!!
On a positive note, the hotel was spotless and the maids did a great job every day. We enjoyed the food and there was always a great selection. The entertainment team from the hotel(Zorro, Ollie, Chris and Eva) were superb.Jose in the Western Saloon was on top form and has a cocktail just for the ladies-monkey brains! (It's vodka, peach schnapps, baileys and grenadine)
We would go back to this hotel again.

There were about 30 of us at the hotel together. The hotel staff were uniformly excellent. Cheerful and incredibly hard-working. I was perhaps less keen on some of the "Western saloon" bar staff who spent more time talking to friends than serving the (at times long) queues but this was not a real problem. Special thanks should go to the Maitre 'D at the club restaurant who was very efficient and cheerful and had the restaurant organised exceptionally well. The Thomson staff were very hard working but were perhaps more focused on the entertainments side than customer complaints which were not seemingly taken very seriously by them. The hotel animation team led by Zorro were very, very good. I have been to a lot of all inclusive resorts and they were the best I have encountered.

The food was exceptional for this star rating. Excellent choice but only a 7 day rotation. The chinese buffet quality was variable though. Sometimes very good, sometimes poor. The evening snacks from the restaurant were very good and much appreciated. I heard the mexican restaurant was not great but I do not know that personally. There was only "Cruzcampo" beer served which is not great but drinkable.

The rooms were clean and tidied every day by the maids. No problems there although the buildings are obviously ageing. The main problem (as everybody says) is the sunbed problem. It could be easily solved if the hotel had the will. There is simply not enough floorspace and ignorant, selfish people put them out in the middle of the night and frequently don't use them until mid-afternoon.
Overall, the hotel is great for the price bracket for families with young kids. Not so good for older kids and not really suitable for singles or couples.

Just returned from a great 2 week stay at the Hotel San Miguel. We had read some of the reviews and feared the worst. To our relief the reviews seem a bit wide of the mark. It is a good 3 star complex which is typically spanish. The hotel is ideal for the family market although if you have young children with pushchairs be prepared to wait a while for the less than adequate lifts. We stayed on the 6th floor so were ok for the resteraunt situated on the 8th floor.

The buffet resteraunt had a decent choice of food but if you are fussy like we are then be prepared to lose weight as i did (wasnt a bad thing). The chinese resteraunt again buffet was better although the only downfall is that yo only get 45 minutes to eat your meal and if you are last in you can easliy lose 20 minutes of that time. There is the western bar which serves snacks, nuggets, chicken strips, burgers, sandwiches etc which we used for the kids.

The maid service was good with toilets cleaned daily, towels changed as required and beds made daily, sheets changed every other other day.

The location was very nice but quiet. If you like to get out and about then this is not for you, we travelled to the old town a few times and playa den bossa aswell, bus collects and drops off outside hotel entrance and has a limited but decent service. Only cost about 10 euros for four of us to the town which is worth a visit. Hotel staff were always pleasnt but should SMILE more.

The best part of the holiday was the kids clubs and entertainment. The entertainment starts in the morning with sports, beach games and few silly but fun ones aswell. The Thompson staff were great and made you feel relaxed about leaving your kids with them. The team were all great especially Natalie and Lee who were always smiling and very approachable. During the day there is football, shooting, archery, waterpolo and volleyball.

The evening entertainment team of zorro, ollie, chriss and eva were superb, have never laughed so much in a long time. There is alot of audience participation so be prepared!!!. In the western bar is the great Jose and his staff who were always very friendly and had a great laugh with most of the people staying at the hotel, sometimes there was a wait for the bar normally near 11 oclock when the all inclusive ends and most people dive for the last drink of the night.

Overall a great holiday, only downfall as mentioned in other reports is the sunbed situation which is very bad. I used to think that it was only Germans who did the towel thing!! we ended having to get up early to get beds before the ones who were not turning up till after 12.

If you are looking for a relaxing family holiday and want a good laugh from the best entertainment team that i have come across then this would be a great place for you to go.

Great holiday, lovely views from the hotel. Food good but on a weekly cycle so not so enjoyable during the second week. Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel entertainment team second to none.

Only downside is the dawn raid on the sunbeds at the pool (by the british!). Please lock the beds away until a reasonable time!!

A great hotel for a family holiday.

Just returned from a great holiday at the San Miguel Hotel.
Despite what others may have experienced, we found all the staff to be polite, pleasant and hard working. Rooms were cleaned daily, no problems with anything going missing.
The Chinese restaurant was much improved over last year - probably due to the fact that a chinese chef is now employed.
Food was OK, and yes the hotel does operate on a weekly cycle, but they are willing to listen to suggestions (just see Alfredo the manager).
Jose and his crew in the Western Saloon are as hard working as ever.
Thomsons' own entertainment duo Lee and Natalie always gave 100%.
Zorro, Chris, Olli and Eva, the Hotels Animation team, were, as always, excellent and never stopped. Boogie Night was controlled mayhem - it was better than last year!
Much has been said of the lifts - it's all true!

Return from a PLANNED week in the hotel on 11h June, My partner, 2 year old daughter and I spent 1 night there and demanded a transfer to another resort, I know you dont spend much time in the room but when you pay extra for a 'mothercare' cot and nothing is there and when a cot does turn up it has loose rusty screws and stains/dirt all over it, thats not good enough. We had damp all down the wall, balcony was filthy and the bathroom unhygienic. Also there were chairs in the hallways and obstructions when you enter the room. The furniture is very dated and looks like it came from a YMCA shop in 1976 (i wasnt born then).

When complaint, the rep wasnt suprised and even stated 'say no more and im not suprised'!!!! So we moved, complaint has been sent, I suppose if your a regular there you know what to expect but i spent

Overall had a really fantastic time. We stayed in the hotel (room 521).

This year the cons -

hotel food variety was quite poor, but quality was fairly good and we all managed to eat well
western saloon food ok, but not brilliant
lifts in hotel - no words available!!!!
a few public areas have tiles that need repairing
Thomson reps. Apart from Lee (no words needed here!!)

Pros

chinese reataurant really good.
reception staff realy helpful
Alfredo (hotel restaurant manager) fantastic (you should also see him in his civvies - flower power!!)
Western Saloon staff, especially jose, what can I say. New girl Christina, lovely. Jose where did you go with my CD????
Beach club and floor zero bar staff great
Zorro, what a love, managed to chat with him out of Entertainer mode, and he's a really nice guy, usual standard of entertainment from his team.
Location - what good views, get the sea view side if you can
Cleaners - work really hard and believe me with some of the dirty trogs that are guests there, really earn their money.
Boogie Nights (return of the fireworks!!!) best night ever!! every other Thurs from the 12th June
Watch the other nights like Guests vs Entertainers, Men vs Women as Zorro cheats like I don't know what!!

Overalll excellent 3 * hotel, made more worthwhile by its staff. We will go again.

ps. entertaiment staff at the galeon are still the same.
