I ahve to agree with one of the other reports in that it was never a 3 star hotel. When we finally were allowd into our room on the balcany there was plastic cups with cig ends in it and the room had quite clearly not been cleaned properly which we ended up doing on our own. When we opened the door ot one of the cupboards the door fell off. It needs a major refurbishment all over the hotel. We had friends staying just down the bay a bit and went to visit them and there hotel honestly looked like a 5 star compared to ours. I dad to ask for the sheets to be changed on the beds as we had been there for a week and they had not been changed once. The towels were not much better. It also cost us an extra

Ok, I have to admit that my first impressions were not good. We stayed in the hotel on floor 8 (room 801) at the end of a long, dark, musty smelling corridor. Opened the patched up door to a small, musty, depressing room filled to capacity with a double & 2 single beds & small tables / bedside cabinet type things that were immediately relegated to the balcony in order to simply walk around the room.

One large ancient looking built-in wardrobe only just managed to accomodate all of our clothing. The air conditioning unit was a hole in the wall affair that had to be operated with the door key (so couldnt be left on when you weren't in the room) and when switched on was like a small tractor running.

'Oh my god' I thought - what have we let ourselves in for!

Still, retaining that stiff British upper lip and not wanting to complain we got on with things. Opened up the door to the sun & fresh air and it improved it a bit!

The next initial disappointment was the food - poor choices (quite a Spanish type menu - hey we are in Spain after all!) but what we did eat was tasty and we always found something for us and the children. The food seemed to improve over the fortnight (or were we getting used to it?)
Chinese restaurant was very good too.

Lifts werent too much of a problem for us on the 8th floor as they would often go from 0 up to 8 for the restaurant and we could jump in and go back down to 0 but there were many irate people complaining to the reps as the middle floors were difficult to get lifts to as they would be full by the time they stopped.

Over the next few days we settled in - got use to our room and started to overlook the poorer points. We were having fun, the pools we good (although the beach club pool was nastily cloudy all the time and a few children including my son had eye infections - there seemed to be lots of people visiting the doctor/chemist) the entertainment was good although don't go to BE entertained - you will BE the entertainment! Its mostly audience participation but seems to work and every night we laughed, danced to the club dances and generally had a great time.

The location is superb with stunning views, the beach is gorgeous and the sea is fantastic for swimming and watersports.

All in all, the elements for a wonderful holiday are there, the stunning scenery, good entertainment, good food & plentiful drinks (the hotel put a food suggestion form outside the restaurant to find out what people would like to eat as there had been some complaints so they do seem to be listening to the guests) ok, rooms are not great but you dont really spend much time in them anyway.
Kids clubs were great - the staff friendly, weather beautiful and we met some lovely people and had some great nights. Don't come looking for luxury but if you want all of the above look no further than the San Miguel!!

this hotel is 3* and lived up to it! It could do with a refurb but at the end of the day it is for families and is at a reasonable price. The rooms are small when 4 people are sharing but you do literally only use it for sleeping in. We stayed on the 3rd floor this year and had problems getting a lift upto the 8th floor where the restaurant is so usually had to go to ground floor to get it! it was clean and so were the restaurants/bar areas. overall is a great hotel except for the lifts due to the amount of people staying there but all staff know about this and i don't think there is much they can do about it. The food this year semmed a little better we always found things we liked and definately didn't starve. The hotelhas spectacular views but not much outside in resort (a few shops and bars and a topclass restaurant). The hotel staff were very friendly especially zorro ollie, chris and eva. Thomsons staff were ok but lee was fantastic, what a funny guy! Entertainment was as always brilliant even though you know all the jokes that are coming!! We were onlyhome for 1 day and have rebooked for next year, think this says it all!! Only problem we had was our 16 year old daughter was a little bored as not many teenagers this time of year and she wont be going back with us next year but at the end of the day she will be 17!!!

I'll start with the food, bland and repetitive, cleanliness was o.k. apart when we took some water in glasses on a tray up to our room, when the cleaner saw them the next day she threw the lot across the floor! she then called reception and told them we did it! We had money stolen from our room which was locked, only to be told by reception that nothing would be done about it as we did'nt use the safe! We were not the only ones to have money stolen. The staff were very unfriendly except the guy's at the western bar.Location was o.k. but a bit remote.Entertainment was just the normal stuff you get anywhere. Will not be back

Just got back from the San Miguel hotel and was disappointed after reading reviews. It is very large and the staff only interested in you if in large groups who enjoy drinking lots! The food is boring and bland and you cannot relax in dining room as your table is constantly being cleared by the unsmiling staff. we had to set our alarm for 6.30am in order to get beds around the pools as by 8am they had all been taken. The entertainment was good but did become a bit repetitive as the fornight went on. Had two boys aged 13 and 15 and they were too old to join in childrens activities and too old for the adults so not much for this age group to do. Would not go again.

Stayed for 10 days at the end of august.hotel clean, rooms cleaned daily.food was ok but ive had better in other 3*hotels,spoke to other guests who had been before, and was told the food wasn't as good as it used to be.anyway my hubby didn't starve and he is extremely fussy but some evenings he would only have chips and gravy as there was nothing he fancied on the menu (as i said fussy)i however am not fussy and tried most dishes but most of them looked better than they tasted.

We ate out at the fish resturant on the beach three times, each meal superb fillet steak was beautiful as was the fish and the pizza was the best ive ever tasted.also had a sunday roast at the happy friar which was nice.and a meal at the chinese which i thought was ok, but hubbys beef was really pink and slimey in his beef curry, we asked if they could could cook it for longer but they didn't understand us and warmed it up again so it was hotter but still as before, anyway hubby couldn't eat it(like i said before he is fussy but i tried it,and i couldn't of eaten it either).

Hotel right by the beach which was lovely ,plenty of watersports ie canoes, sailing, pedelos.
The staff were friendly especially in the western saloon, watch out for hos'e and his slippery nipples also the chocolate huskys our nice.

Enjoyed the entertainment by zorro and co very funny ,but did get a bit samey i think 10 days was just about enough for us.enjoyed boogie nights, but from what members had said,i had expected more than a audience game show.

My kids enjoyed there holiday, and the youngest who is 10 joined in with everything, clubs and games.the older one 14 we hardly saw as she had made lots of friends.

To sum up had a good holiday at the san miguel and would visit again if the food improved.

We really had a lovely time at this hotel and have been to ibiza a few times. The hotel and rooms are clean and fresh towels everyday, the aircon is something out of the dark ages you had to climb onto the bed to switch it on and use a key it was very noisy. The views from the rooms were fantastic but very hot in the afternoons as they were in full sun.
Well what can I say about the food if you like chips, chips and more chips then you will be fine.I understand and it is a child friendly hotel but, the childrens food was a shambles. The adults food was not much different. If you like to go on holiday to eat a spanish sort of british then you will be fine. I am not saying that it was all bad but, I wish they had a little more spanish food selection.
Spoke to quite a lot of people who had been going for years and they said that the food has got worse and a few said they would be trying somewhere else next year.
The staff were great and very helpful the hotels entertainment team are fantastic and boogie nights was the best everyone joins in and it is wild. Zoro and his team were so funny and really made the holiday they never stopped. The thomson team were a different story they are and were hopeless and lifeless. If Zoro and his team ever left then god help them.
As,for the bar staff they were wonderful and the drink sizes they were in small plastic cups but, with small children about you have to think safety first.
The location was fantastic for us the resort its self is very small and only had three shops so outside of the hotel there was nothing at night. The beach was great and I did go on it a lot only because I like the sound of the sea.
Not saying that we didnt enjoy the holiday we did would we go back no.

We went to this hotel after reading all the rave reviews and were not disapointed. The food gets a bit repetitive, but their was plenty of choice and we didn't starve.
The cleaners, bar staff and restaurant staff work real hard and are a credit to the hotel
The 4 Belgian entertainers are what really makes the holiday. That's why we have given 5 stars to the entertainment. If we had to give stars to the Thomsons so called entertainers we wouldn't be able to as there is not an option of posting minus points. They were useless and unhelpful, but as I said Zorro and his mates make up for it. After all you don't really need the Thomsons reps unless you want to buy one of their overpriced excursions. If you go here and want to do a trip, then use the excursion shop across the road, basicaly the same trips but a fraction of the price.
Pool got a bit crowded but still ok. Would we go again? Yes we would and probably will the year after next as we have already booked somwhere else for next year.

This hotel needs updating. The rooms are basic, dirty cutlery in the restaurant, gravy on the dried flowers that was still there after 2 weeks. The handrails round the outside of the hotel are rotting. The top 4 visible tiles on the top pool were filthy (this started to be cleaned when complained to manager but not finished while we were there). Two lifts for the hotel is not adequate. The kids 16 & 14 loved the entertainment (Zorro and friends not the Thomson reps) so they were happy which is important but we felt it was very Butlins and lots of people who had been before said it had gone down hill and they would not return. We had a good break but was dissapointed with the Hotel and will not be returning.

Well, just got back after our eighth year at this hotel.
Stayed at beach club for second year which i prefer...not so many steps. Yes, the food is a bit repetitive etc. but there's always something and the staff are very efficient - sometimes too efficient! Zorro, Ollie, Natascha & Chris are still fantastic. Kept us amused again! And that's not easy! Jose and tito at western saloon are my heros! And the new girls there were fab too. Didn't need reps , thank god, but claire was excellent at entertaining (hi to her mum, dad and amanda too). Would I go back....absolutely!! But we are a large group and some finding it repetitive after so many years. Think hotel would suffer if Zorro and team were to leave! Been back 10 hours now....and can't wait to return to San Miguel.
