this is not one of the liveliest resorts there is a centre for the young ones but dont bother going if you are strapped for cash as drinks are very expensive its called kasbah centre, the yumbo centre is mostly for the gay people but they are very friendly , there wasnt much happening in the other bars around playa del ingles

Although there are a lot of places closed due to the economic situation it's still a very lively resort with plenty going on. The resturants on the beach area try to get you to eat there, but they were friendly even if you refused, no pressure unlike some other resorts/countries I've heard about. The area we stayed in was very clean, cannot comment on other parts of town. Plenty of choice in regards to nightlife - the Red Cow near Planet Hollywood was really good with excellent food and the downstairs bar was great at night, unfortunately we didn't discover it until a couple of days before comming home.

Playa Del Ingles is a great resort. Hot weather- we went in July and plenty to do. recommend the pub crawls round the Kazbah if your into that. Stops the reps trying to drag you in every bar. Be aware for the african women who come to you shake your hand and then place a bracelet round your wrist and demand payment- quite forcefully... very intimidating. Sand Dunes are amazing. either to have a wander round in the day (watch out for the naked men on the beach if you go too far down) or to sit and relax during sunset/ night.

except for touts trying to get you to visit their pub or restaurant every 2 mins everything is very nice here we went to the beach a few times and the only pests there is the men asking you to buy pop, beers and fruit but the police are patrolling taking their things off them and moving them on

As mentioned-holidayed in Playa del Ingles 15 times. We come for the bars and the clubs in the Yumbo. Like everywhere else though, the gay scene in the Yumbo seems to be in terminal decline. Up to a couple of years ago, whatever month you travelled, the place was heaving. The last couple of years though, steady decrease in numbers, bars look struggling, lot of people seem to be bored and going through the motions of pretending it is as good as it used to be. To be fair, we were there the week after Pride, combined with the general economic downturn, may have been a contributing factor in its quietness. Otherwise- Playa del Ingles remains the same, big, sunny, breezy, unpretentious. Not cheap anymore though!

Very windy first few days, visited the local beach a couple of times - weekends very busy with locals. Did enjoy after breakfast long walks to the Dunes and back. The main town area has a few hilly areas for those who struggle with steps, and the shopping centres are basic with the usual clothing and electrical stores who want to haggle on everything.
At night the bars become more inviting and the Kasbah centre is good for the younger generation with pubs & clubs open till the early hours.Cabs are every where and quite reasonable.
If you've not been to G.Canaria before it's worth doing and island tour as the climate and vegetation are extremely different north to south. We did a tour last time but be careful not to get tricked into a so called executive tour with English speaking guide as we did - seven transits with cb radios and one guide in the front vehicle!!
Explore the island and you'll love it!
