The Riosol apartments are very clean but could do with a little modernising! Our apartment (in block 9) had a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, fan and an electronic safe (30 euros for two weeks). The balcony was huge with sun lounges (with mattress's) and table/chairs, and fantastic views over the beach/harbour/town.

We often ate at the pool bar where the food is nice and reasonably priced.

There are two pools, one is saltwater with jacuzzi, the other is larger with a shallow part for children. There are plenty of sunbeds around both pools.

Daytime activities include - archery, rifle shooting, tennis, water polo, aqua aerobics, there is also a children's club.

Evening entertainment in the pool bar is the usual stuff but good fun. Captain haddocks bar is quieter with a pool table and TV.

First time in Puerto Rico and would definitely go back. The Riosol is in a lovely position right at the top of Puerto Rico and had amazing views of the beach and the harbour.

The pool areas were nice and clean, there was an adult pool with a jacuzzi which was lovely and a bigger pool for the kids which we also sat round and was also nice.

Paco the childrens entertainer/aerobics instructor/all round entertainer was fantastic and would return to Riosol just to see him again. Hotel staff very friendly and cannot do enough for you. Dining room very clean and again staff were very pleasant.

Food was ok but catered more for the Germans/Dutch (there were a lot of Dutch when we stayed there!). There was always plenty of food but sometimes it was a little bit bland. We ate out quite a lot even though we were half board.

The rooms were a good size and had ace views but the room we had was a little dated and could have done with a good proper clean. There was also a problem with stray cats.

Overall we would go back to Riosol but would prob go Self Catering as the food was so cheap in the resort loads of 'all you can eat' Chinese Restaurants most charge around 8-10 Euros per person, loads of other good restaurants as well. Definitely worth a visit!!!

We have just returned from the Rosol, and must say never again. The accommodation is very basic and old, the cleaning standards are not what they should be in todays times.

This hotel really does not live up to its 3 star rating, there are a lot more cleaner and modern hotels in the area with lower ratings.

I would advise anyone thinking of staying here to think hard, and read as many reviews as possible.

I stayed at the Riosol for 2wks in Sept` 2005 and it was a great 2 wks.

The hotel was spotless the staff were nice and polite and I can't see why a certain couple thought it was less than a three star.

I have travelled extensively throughout the world and I can assure anybody that the RIOSOL IN GRAN CANARIA IS CERTAINLY AT LEAST A 3 STAR

4 couples stayed in Rio Sol in September for a week.

We had a fantastic holiday. The apartments had everything we needed. The views from all apartments were amazing....you could spend your holiday on your balcony and not get tired of the view.

A 2 minute walk takes you to europa centre, plenty of bars and restaurants tho the bar in rio sol, captain haddocks did great food and reasonable prices. They have happy hour in the afternoon round the pool. This is the first place I have stayed where on arrival the porter took our cases to the apartments...great staff in all areas.

Only thing I noticed was they seemed pretty strict about the rule of no inflatables in the pool....a guy was straight over if anyone tried to put one in.....not too good if you got kids.

The apts were cleaned regular and towels changed plenty, the courtesy room for the last day is the best i have seen with all the facilities needed.

I have been to Puerto Rico a dozen times now and I would say that the Rio Sol is the best accommodation I have stayed in even if only for the large balcony and fab views.

We got this as a last minute 2 week sc holiday. I would say the rooms at this aparthotel are in need of refurbishment. But the balconies are fabulous, large with patio table/chairs and sunloungers. Not very good if you like privacy though as the wall between apartments is lower than waist level and you can see directly into next apartment and vice versa.

We were left without a fan and had to request one three times before one was delivered. Woman on reception was grumpy to say the least.

Entertainment was geared towards children/families, but my god the entertainer tried hard, and all the kids seemed happy with the shows etc. But basically it was a value for money holiday, and although it is one of the highest apartments it is easily accessible by regular local buses and taxis, and ideally located to the europa centre.

Nothing fancy, but I would go back again if visiting Puerto Rico as it is a good clean base.

The rooms were basic but very clean & tidy, rest of hotel & pool areas very clean too. Fantastic views from the balcony & because it is so high up, the music from the commercial centre didn't keep us awake.

Staff were extremely friendly & helpful.

Didn't go to any entertainment as we went out every night.

only bad thing about hotel was the thin walls in the apartment as we could here every word being said next door & above.

We stayed in the Riosol and we will be back. The apartments were big and clean. The location was the best we have stayed in.

Hotel staff were very good 24hours a day. The enterainment well what can I say Paco was brilliant shame there was an age limit on Captain Haddock bar as my youngest daughter is only 13 and was not allowed in there after 10pm.

I must say a big thankyou to Hamid in the bar he was very nice. The food was good, different every day.

On arriving to the hotel on the first day, we were very disappointed and asked for a room change. The rooms were very basic, and definitely not a 3 star as advertised, more like a very basic 2 star. We were told some rooms had been refurbished, but we didn't see any. We complained about cockroaches being in our bed on day two, but were told there was not a lot that could be done about it!

Hotel facilities were excellent though, but didn't make up for the apartments being so basic, we felt we had to go out every night and could not relax in our room.

On arriving at our appartment we were very dissapointed the appartment was very basic and shabby and looking very tired, some of the appartments were in the process of being re-furbished, and definatly not 3*.

Our bedroom and bathroom was next to a jungle and if we opened the windows we were infested with cockroaches and mosquitoes.

The Lift which services all the appartments was constantly out of order and from our appartment to the swimming pool/reception involved a long steep walk up steps and in temperatures of high 80s that was no fun.

The swimming pool was over crowded due to one being re-furbished the sun loungers were packed together like sardines.(Work was completed day before we left )maid service was 5 times a week and bedding and towels changed twice a week and that left a lot to be desired.

The bar staff were friendly, but all praise must go to Paco in charge of entertainment,he worked so hard to involve everyone in all the activities.

The one redeeming factor was the views they were absoultly fantastic. Would possibily go back again if air condition was installed and the apparments have been re-furbished.
