Blanes is a growing resort with long well maintained beaches and lots of cafes and restaurants to satisfy anyone. However most of it did close down after the first week in October and we had little choice during our second week.

as it was late september when we travelled to blanes, most of the shops, bars and resaurants were closed down as it was the end of season, but it didnt put a damper on our holidays at all, we still found places to eat and drink no problem, and i would certainly visit this resort again in the future

Blanes is divided into two parts, the old and the new. It is easy and cheap getting around Blanes using the bus or the tourist trains.
If you are self catering there are plenty of local supermarkets and loads of reasonably priced restaurants if you prefer to eat out. If however, you prefer all things English then you may be better going to Lloret or Calella. The majority of holidaymakers in Blanes are Spanish and Dutch and the bards and restaurants reflect this.
There are many places to visit without paying the high price of organised excursions - just hop on a train a boat or a bus. Free buses run to Waterworld and Marineland but it is advisable to purchase your entrance tickets in advance in order to avoid queueing in the hot sun. Barcelona and all its tourist attractions are only just over an hour away by train and the fares are very reasonable - approx £6.50 return.
Although Blanes has a large beach it does drop quite steeply. If you prefer a gently shelving beach, especially if you have small children, a short boat ride up the coast to Santa Cristina is just the ticket.
Blanes is not the place to go if you enjoy clubbing etc but if you want a more sedate family holiday Blanes is ideal.

Blanes is a nice place. Not good, not bad.
The are generally 3 type of places to eat.
1. English away - Burgers, Fish & Chips, Pies etc..
2. Typical Spanish - Paella, griled meats. The menus usually have little structure. No Starter, Main, sweet. Just different dishes all mixed up on a menu.
3. Pizzerias
Places I recommend to eat are Cafe Debra in the shopping area near the fruit and veg market. Good sadwiches and drinks for lunch.
La Tavola Pizzeria. Lovely thin and crispy pizza. Good choice of pasta and the veal millanase was fantastic. Very reasonable prices.

Blanes is a really nice resort with a fair-sized harbour and an interesting old town just behind it. The Botanical Gardens (on the hill behind the harbour ) are well worth a visit.
We stayed in our hotel at night so I can't comment on night life in the resort.
The beach is shingly and shelves quickly and steeply into the sea (like all the resorts in this area. It is kept pretty clean though.

i would NEVER go back to Blanes, its basicly the BORNX of spain, imagine the worst area in your town, graffiti ridden, dirtys streets, beggers, and ansolute povity at its worst..... i actualy did not feel safe in some areas when we original walked about and got lost. the food is overpriced and bloody awfull. the places serving food should be condemed.

The place was kept half heartedly tidy around the pool was ok but i guess they forgot to go in the blocks. The rest of blanes was pretty good only niggle was large areas of dumpster bins smelt pretty bad but i guess its hot over there a lot of the time so you can forgive that. I found walking into main area of town was a nice start then working way back to "hotel" a lot of nice places to eat and friendly bars especially the english and irish bars (keep away from the locals type bars you just dont ever feel welcome) I liked the beach it was small stoney sandy type that you could walk on and just brush off didnt seem to get everywhere. I think if we were to go again i would rather go to lloret as its more of an english resort i got told this of a friend i met in a bar who i hadnt seen for many years who has worked out there for about 4years himself.

The resort is good,it is very clean, the beaches are good, the sand is fine gravel but this is good as it doesn't stick to you,I don't think the sea would be that suitable for children as it shelves dramatically and is very deep. There are lots of good places to eat and the Tapas bar on the corner (along the street selling all the fresh fruit and veg) was very good.If you are self catering you must go to the Mercedona supermarket it is a 5/10 minute walk up the hill from the bus station and the fresh fish and steaks are wonderful.
