It was a shame about the hotel because Calella itself is a pretty spanish town. The beach is flat and well maintained. The shops seem to have strange opening times but you can spend hours wandering through the small side streets looking in numerous shops. Also having the train station here is very handy and the train is so cheap.

Calella is lovely beach resort. Huge beach, very clean, friendly locals. Tonnes of shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants etc.
Trains direct to Barcelona are clean, well-run and fast would recommend this is you are going to Calella.

Calella is a great town for a beach holiday or even to use as a base to explore the costa brava

The hotel was very clean although the facilities were quite small for the size of the hotel, I should imagine that in the high season you would not get much of a chance sitting near the pool, using the jacuzzi, gym etc.
The town is near by and only about a 5-10 walk away. The beach is very clean and tidy.

CALELLA-What a wonderful resort. 10minute walk from the Hotel, into the town.
All the shops, and the majority of houses were decorated, either with xmas trees, and lights or simular. Turn right , out of thr Hotel.
Walk along the sea front you come to a tree lined, promenade, this runs alongside the railway track Further along, you can catch a train.
We went to Barcelona for the day-6euros each, return. The shops were very interesting, and not expensive, which after spending 2 weeks in Playa Blanca last year (which we hated) we were pleasantly surprised.
If you want to treat yourelf to a good pair of shoes, or a nice bag this is the place. On Christmas day, we watched, the locals, running into the sea, apparantly this is a tradition.
The weather, was nice, around 60/65 degrees. The local people are very friendly. And once again, we would go back.
We are retired, but there were plenty of young families, and it is a very cosmopoliton resort. And again, very clean.

I came to Calella 30 years ago, hasn't changed all that much. Even visited the hotel I was in then, now part of the H.Top chain, the Amaika. The best bit about H.Top is that if you go all inclusive, you can eat/drink at any of the other hotels in the chain, 12 in all. Try the Pineda Palace, its brilliant, and you can get free travel to the other hotels too.

The resort itself was not clean, and there was litter evrywhere. This was surprising when you consider we visited in November.
The beach is seperated from the resort by the train line which means there is no promenade to stroll along.
The best thing about the train line is the fact that it is only 3 Euros to travel into Barcelona which is a beautiful city and a must see.
If you intend to visit Costa Brava, avoid Calella and head for Sant Susanna or any of the resorts North of there.
