We went out of season so didn't really venture out too much. Loads of shops close by. Went to the beach but it was cold and windy, so opted for the hotel jacuzzi instead. Tough call

calella is a little worn in places and more spanish than the other resorts in the area however that suited us. we caught the train from calella to barcelona and found it so easy to do saving quite a bit of money instead of going with the tour operators. there are lots of shops some of them selling some very good gifts lots of places to eat of all different types all in all a typical spanish town even if it isnt quite as polished as lloret

calella has a nice beach which is clean and has beach sports and bars.
there is a very long street of shops, cafes and bars. and they have a local market twice a week.
the train station is very close by, which is handy for a trip into barcelona approx. 40 mins.
there is a few nightclubs and a couple of english bars close to hotel.
we have stayed in nearby pineda before and had visited calella so knew what to expect, would stay here again but in a better hotel.

i absolutely loved the place ecpecially papas bar that place is at the top of the list! the atmosphere is awesome! its the best bar you will ever visit and its a hell of a night out! the staff are really friendly.i would reccomend calella because they have loads of clubs a nice beach and a big town, be careful not to get lost though because the town is confusing!lol

All Inclusive packages has ruined the resort , no one ventures from the free bars and 10pm in the town centre the only night life is the stray dogs.
The best thing in this resort is the train to Barcelona

Calella is lively resort with two contrasting areas, ie the old "spanish" town and the new area. Both have something to offer everyone. The beach is spotless but parents be aware of the steep shelf into the sea which can catch you out. A fantastic train service runs along the beach so Barcelona to the south is easily and cheaply reached as are the resorts of Pineda, Santa Sussana, Malgrat, Blanes and also Girona. The trains are cheap and very user friendly. Take time to vist the nearby resorts they are all very different and offer great variety.

We have visited Calella many times over the years and nothing seems to have changed ,new buildings going up and old ones coming down but nothing getting done . Depending what you like Calella caters for all, we now prefer little bodega's and back street bars than your fun bars and night clubs but it is there if you want it. Yes i would visit Calella again but maybe not to stay there unless it was more in the front opposite the beach.

Calella old town is really nice, lots of shops, pubs, restaurants, but it`s being killed by the big hotels all-inclusive deals, it`s in need of a lick of paint in most places, the locals are not very friendly and there is some anti-German grafitti dotted about, it`s understandable why they don`t like tourists when you see the behaviour of some of the large number of German teens that visit, also the locals have an annoying habit of parking their cars wherever they like and that`s not helpful to you if you have a pram or are elderly, or if you are sitting on the bus that can`t move because some local has left his car in a narrow 1 way street, most of the streets are narrow & 1 way, the beach is a shingle beach, not sand, it`s o.k. after a day or 2, you get used to it, it is clean and kept well, the sea is clean also and good to swim in, the train service to Barcelona is excellent, Calella station is in the old town near the beach, 6€ return to Barcelona.
