Not a 4star and dated, and some staff members rude , we book this hotel on its ratings , but it about a 3star

Request a room that is facing away from the pool area if you want quiet at night. The rooms facing out have great views and are also very quiet at night even though there is live entertainment going on.

They have water stations dotted around the hotel, which is a great idea. You buy a recyclable bottle for €4 and you can fill it as many times as you like! Saves on buying lots of plastic bottles from supermarkets etc. Eco Friendly ?

Pool view rooms are good, if you want to watch the entertainment from your room. The entertainment is over by 11pm so no problem with noise, unless you go to bed early. Calypso 1 is the block with the restaurant, bars, etc. so I thought it the best choice

Could have expected the resort to be a bit cleaner! The pavements were leathal - there were holes meant for trees to grow and wherever there were no trees the holes were very deep and dangerous, a bit of sand to fill them up to pavement level would make them safe!
many clubs, bars, reastaurants in the resort so a good place for keeping yourselves entertained!
didn't visit the beach - had a hangover! Oooops!
Would definately visit this resort again!

Resort cleanliness is a funny one. The beach fronts are brilliant, clean, there's a lovely walk to the port/marina, well paved, loads of lovely water features, beaches are clean and generally its fantastic.
But go down the side streets...it's a different matter. A frequent smell of urine from the nightclub ejectees, smelly bins...it just let the whole thing down a bit. I found Benidorm a lot tidier.
Resort entertainment...well it's been likened to blackpool a lot and i guess thats what it is. Repetetive trinket shops, loads of resturants and bars. The main town centre by the port is much nicer, albeit a bit small.
We didnt do Port Aventura, but Aquopolis in the next resort (La Pineda) was brilliant. I thought the rubber ring hire was expensive, considering i only saw 2 rides you could use them on plus the pools. If you dont mind queuing a bit longer (sometimes quite a bit longer) you can use the free blue rings on the rides.
The free dolphins show was awesome.
Bear in mind, Port Aventura is a theme park plus waterpark, Aquopolis is a water park ((with dolphin shows)
Beaches are large with fine sand (no shingle or stones) and gently slopes into the sea. Plenty of sunbeds, i think they were 5 euros a day to hire.
The beaches were very busy in the mornings and early lunchtime, then got quieter as the heat of the day really set in.
Tarragona is nice to visit by bus, dont be put off by it's industrial side you see first.
Barcelona was brilliant for adults by train from salou station. About 1.5 hours journey for 10.5 euros return.
Beware if you get off at Barcelona la Grazia station (the best one for the city centre / port). When you return, you go to the same place....and cant get through the entrance styles. They keep rejecting your ticket. There's another entrance about 100 yards away on the corner of the next street. I got a sweat on worrying i'd miss my train.
Would i visit Salou again...no. But clubs and pubs arent my thing. If they are your thing, then you'll love it.
The beaches are fantastic, the main 'parade' is brilliant...but Salou seems to be aimed at younger people. I enjoyed it, but i've had better holidays.

La Pineda was gorgeous. Fabulously clean beach, gently shelving into the water. So glad we weren't staying in Salou!
The resort itself was spotless. Wide promenade running the whole length of resort was lovely to amble along.
The shops were much as you'd expect form a seaside resort. But i was surprised to see that it didn't cater for children as much as i'd hoped. There were no play areas for kids in the bars except for a couple.
The waterpark opened it's gates up in the evenings for the children. There were go karts and trampoline bungees etc - but all at a cost!
Which brings me to the fact that everything was so expensive!
Hoever we would return to La Pineda again.

La Pineda is a beautiful, clean resort. We also stayed there 10 years ago and it is still as lovely as it was then. The bars are pleasant, clean and welcoming. There are a wide variety of shops. The beach must be one of the best in Spain, it's spotlessly clean and the sand is lovely. There are beach bars every couple of hundred feet! It isn't as busy as Salou, which is all hustle and bustle, it's just busy enough! There is also a street market every friday behind the waterpark. I would recommend this resort to anyone, it's perfect!

Each to their own but there was nothing remotely Spainish about Salou. For me Salou resembled nothing more than a 1970's concrete urban development. How sad that the Spanish have this notion that all British people on holiday want burgers & chips and Sky TV.
The resort was also very expensive especially excursion trips.

As a family we absolutely loved La Pineda. Strolling along the seafront in the evenings we felt very safe. The resort was comfortably busy but not crowded, perhaps a little more upmarket and family friendly than Salou.
The beach was lovely. The sunbeds were a ridiculous price to hire so we just left our towels and sandals on the sand. The sea was crystal clear and warmer than the water in the pool!! Plenty of taps/showers available to wash off the sand afterwards.
The bus stop for Salou, Port Aventura, Tarragona etc were within a few minutes walk.
We were lucky enough to come across 'Hennesseys Irish Bar' during our 1st week and spent a number of evenings there. Run by Bridget and Dave they made us feel very welcome. They hold a fun quiz and pub games every evening plus occasional live bands and a hypnotist show. My children (and I) loved it. I even won on a couple of occasions!! (Bar situated in side road, 1st left after Aquopolis).
I would have no hesitation in visiting La Pineda and staying at The Golden Donaire Beach hotel again, and I would be happy to recommend to family and friends.
