Hammamet is not a clean place and they are currently doing a lot of building work and road improvements throughout Hammamet and Nabeul (not by the hotel). There is also a lot of litter scattered about the streets.
The beach was excellent and this appears to be the main attraction.
The reason I would not go back here is there is little to do outside the hotel. When you did venture out you would be harrased by shop keepers. They do not undersatnd the concept of browsing. I soon became tired of buying anything due to the ridiculus prices they would ask (i.e. kids army cap £40!!). After several minutes I managed to get it for £2. This was the same no matter what you try and buy.
Before buying too much, venture into hammamet and walk away from the medina. There are 2 shops there that do not hassle you and are very cheap. They don't stock everything but it gives you an idea of how little things do actually cost.

the resort is a bit run down but the people are very friendly. sometimes too friendly in the ribat where you have to be very firm if you don't want to buy souvineers.
you can go on a camel ride or horse and cart wich was very good.
i would recomend going to nebul wich has a camel and pottery market it has a great atmosphere. don't do it as a trip it is better to go by taxi wich is very cheap

In Hammamet, there are plenty of places of interest and you have a market day on Thursday. The Medina is very interesting and plenty of little shops to look in, the people are very friendly. Just a short ride into Nebal is another market which is on a Friday morning, which is excellent for ceramics. If you are into shoes, you will find many shoes shops at reasonable prices, all are mostly leather. I have always found the taxi service based at Medina very good.

beach dirty and poor facilities and not guarded so the all hawkers etc could bother you. other facilities run down but they tried to keep it as clean as possible. gardens were pretty.

Hammamet has so much to offer. It is a bussling fishing town with lots going on. The best months I think are April.May/June and then Oct/Nov unless you really want to be a lobster.
Visit the walled Madina and be polite you will then enjoy all it has to offer. Take a coffee looking out to sea at one of the many cafe's and take a walk around the back street houses..which are so beautiful.
Visit the market in Nabeul on a friday..market day..quite an experience. Fantastic pots. There is so much entertainment in Hammamet that I defy you to be bored, equally you can have peace if you so wish.
I highly recommend Tunisia First a fairly new booking agent but superb prices and superb service. If they do not have the Hotel listed that you want to go to then ask for it.

Very poor area. We didn't like going out of the complex due to comments made from yound tunisian males. There were no pubs and clubs; nothing to do really. I like tyo relax on holiday as well as having the opportunity to look around. This was like hell on earth.

I stayed in what the locals call Hammamet Nord which is the old part of the town. Hammamet Sud (South) is more modern with bigger and fresher hotels. People had warned us not to go out of the complex at night but we found a lovely restaraunt across the road which was homely and friendly. The Tunisians can sometime come across as been a bit clingy (especially with the children) but they are from muslim origin and are just generally happy to see families together.
If you want busting nightlife then Tunisia is not for you as the nightlife is either hotel based (ending at 12) or one main road which is full of bars etc. Please be aware that these bars are extensively used by the locals and you can get some unwanted attention. There was a scam going not long ago that some locals were seeing unattached women in bars and pretending to be their waiter from the hotel. These girls were spending horrific amounts of money and later appearing on the police station doors complaining of being fleeced. Please remember you are in a muslim country and people do think more of you if you act accordingly!!!

On a previous visit to Tunisia, we stayed in PEK, but Hammament is a larger resort but with more character, with mostly low-rise hotels spread out to the north and south of the fort. At no time did we feel threatened when we walked round the town, even at night. The medina is small, but authentic. The beaches are lovely soft white sand and the sea very clear. There is not a lot of entertainment, which is why we like it there. Of course this is North Africa, and not as clean and tidy as some places in Europe.
