Beaches

We dared to exit the hotel only once. Not only were we afraid of running into the more feral of local cats but - it was a long way back to the loo's.
There were a variety of restaurants on the way to the beach, which was a good 5 minute walk.
The beach was OK.

First trip to Tunisia and a bit cautious but soon relaxed as shopkeepers and people were friendly and a nice atmosphere. We were warned that the local Hammamet market was a bit hard going but never expected such a loud, noisy lot shouting for our attention. Their persistance would be a bit frightening to the lone traveller. You have to just keep smiling in fact we were laughing all the time at the madness. I wore sunglasses so as not to catch their eye but nevertheless I was cornered and haggled for a necklace priced 80 dina (£40)my offer 15 dina. Trader followed after I walked away exhausted by the experience then my offer accepted. We had to go into a coffee shop in the market to recover. Naboul market was more sane and relaxing and the beach was out of this world. All the beaches were beautiful and clean. We went a little wooden train journey round Naboul resort which was cool.
At our hotel we booked the "camel man"'s trip to the mountain people not to be missed although a wee bit sore in the 'seat'also don't wear shorts in case the camel goes to near cactus! Brilliant trip. The pirate galleon ship was also a good trip.
We bought a carpet at our local shop, 3 Kaftans, the trips and still had plenty of money left which we will use for our next holiday when we come back. One week was not enough.

If you go on the beach, you will not be just left alone and does spoil the relaxation time. Comedy sketch was billiant to watch by the animation team, and very original. This hotel is as clean as you can get when right next to a beach.

Plenty of things to do, we went paragliding, jetskiing, and on the banana boat for next to nothing! The beach club at night was also very lively and good.

The beach although very nice was litered with rubbish and none too clean. The sea was too rough to swim in. The bars around seemed fine but geared to the young.Taxis are plentiful and cheap to use. The medina is well worth a visit if you are prepared to haggle. It is best to price up anything you want to buy in the hotel shop first because traders inflated prices 10 fold.

We stayed at Les Orangers Beach Resort which is situated on the outskirts of Hammamet - a taxi ride into Hammamet costing between 2 and 3 dinars. We didn't visit the medina and strolled mainly along the side streets.
The beach at Les Orangers is beautiful, clean and safe. Police patrol the beach regularly on horses and we all felt safe throughout our holiday.
Having read all the reviews on Tunisia and what to expect with regard to pushy sellers, etc, I must say it was not as bad as we had anticipated. To visit Tunisia with an "open mind" is the best advice I can give. Be firm if you aren't interested in buying something and if you don't like haggling (as I don't) stick to shopping in the fixed price shops - they're usually cheaper anyhow.
