on arrival at the hotel our rep told us to book tables at the 2 ala carte restaurants as they get fully booked. this we did for the 1st 2 nights. must sday they were dissapointing. the food was neither french nor italian. it was generic pasta, fish and meat dishes on both menus.
however we were more impressed with the food in the main self service restaurant. there was plenty of choice with tunisian dishes mixed among more european choices. they cooked fresh pizza every night too.
the best thing food wise though was the breakfasts - i really missed them when we got home. ommlettes and pancakes made to order! fresh breads, hot food, fruit & yogurt. when we booked in we were told our breakfast slot was 6-730!! and we did go down there the 1st morning in that time but our waiter told us for the rest of the week we could go down anytime for breakfast which was a relief!
i never actually went swimming in the pool but lounging beside it was very nice - especially as there were no kids allowed at this hotel!
the beach area was also nice but you did get hasseled by guys trying to get you to do their water sports or camel rides etc
entertainment was minimal at this hotel. it was very cheesy and ended quite early, but this probably reflected the older age of alot of the holidaymakers at this hotel

The food was mediocre a lot of the time it was barely warm not what we have been used to at other thomson hotels.
Location was not very good it was a taxi ride into the port 4 TD, I would not have liked to try to walk the distance.
The private beach was lovely but again quite a walk from the hotel.
Hotel grounds fabulous pleny of sunbeds and shade for everyone.
Entertainment was almost none existant and had to pay 10 TD to get into one of the shows which was a load of rubbish.
The Maid service was excellent our maid always left small touches to the room.
I came away with a tummy bug 2 days before we left.
All in all I would go back to this hotel.
Don't forget to take a pullover or cagdigan for the nights are quite chilly.

Our first impression of the hotel was that it was impressively styled with well tended gardens and a lovely lobby area.
We were allocated a room which was too far from reception and didn't have much of a balcony or view. We were immediately transferred to a bigger room, with a better balcony and view over the hills. Everything was spotless. If i could give 5* for cleanliness, I would. Beware of the baths as they do have rather high sides. I am considered agile, but still felt the strain when climbing into it! The water was constantly hot. The rooms are cleaned daily and they are well cleaned. The bed was comfortable and the TV had lots of English speaking channels. You do not have a safe in your room, but have to go to the multi-safe box located near the reception.
The food was great, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts and the buffet dinners. Being a predominantly Brit hotel, all of the waiting staff spoke good English and people queued for the food which was plentiful and always hot. You are allocated a table when you first arrive, and you remain at that table for the duration of your stay. great! no wandering around looking for an empty seat. You are not allowed to smoke in the main buffet restaurants, but you do have smoking areas in the ala carte restaurants. In fact, smokers are well catered for here, there are ashtrays everywhere, so if you are a non-smoker, be warned, there are not many non-smoking areas. As a wine drinker, I was very impressed with the Tunisian wine which was of a good quality. The local lager is not too bad either.
The pool area is amazing, although we didn't sit there once. The pools are beautiful and quiet! We preferred to go to the beach where we always got a sun-bed.
I can't really comment on the entertainment as we tended to spend our evenings in the bar!! but people coming out from the shows, always looked happy.
Outside of the resort, PEK is a pleasant walk away. There are some nice cafes, but remember that Tunisia is a muslim country so not all of them will serve alcohol. The shopping in PEK is not too bad and I thought it better than Sousse. You will get some good bargains if you haggle, but sometimes, the hagglers can be a bit in your face. They can also be a bit "touchy-feely" .Tunisia is incredibly cheap and you will find that your pound goes a long way.
all in all, the Royal Kenz is an excellent hotel and I can understand why they have many return visitors. Despite the rain on the last day of my holiday, it has been my favourite place this year. I have recommended it to friends and colleagues, particularly those who do not have young children or who want to stay in a child free resort. it kind of spoils you for any other type of holiday. (I am a parent but my children have grown up). I will definitely return to this hotel and will keep my fingers crossed that it maintains its child-free policy.

The food we found to be excellent, at lunchtime we ate at the snack restaurant in the pool area. The choice and prices were excellent, as was the friendly service. At night in the main restaurant the evening buffet was also very good, with excellent choices from the soups, salad bar, hot selections and carvery. There was always 2 Tunisian dishes for you to try. There was a plentiful choice of vegetables and different potatoes, boiled, croquettes, roast, chips etc. There was also 4 different types of pizza each night. You would have to be a real faddy eater if you couldn't find something to eat from the choices given.
I am not a dessert person, but did sample the ice cream one night - always 4 flavours - with some creme caramel. delicious. The waiter on our table was excellent - by the way - you keep the same table for the duration of your stay. If you want to change the time given on your meal card or want a table for just the 2 of you, speak to the Maitre D and he will sort you out.
This is an extremely friendly hotel in all areas and we look forward to returning next year.

The room was of a good size with a separate bathroom with bath, shower and hairdrier. A small TV is provided and you get Sky News, Channel Four and BBC Prime, although the channels disappear from time to time and eventually the satellite system is rebooted.
The hotel does not have Internet facilities. But there is lots going on and I recommend the massage in the beauty salon

The room was a good size and we were fortunate to have a king size bed, where other couples had 2 small singles pushed together. We overlooked a road and another hotel, but that was better than another room they offered us, so it was ok. The lighting was very poor and we couldn't get ready to go out in the room, so both squeezed into the bathroom.
The bathroom was a fair size (for 1 person, but not really for 2) with a seperate toilet cubicle, a bath and shower, although the shower attachment was broken. There was a hair dryer which was actually powerful enough to dry my hair which I was impressed by :-) Think the water was heated by solar power as when it rained, there was no hot water, but on the sunny days it was boiling. The room was cleaned daily and to a high standard every day we wanted it cleaned, and even sometimes when we didn't.
The air-con or heating didn't work. We had 4 days of rain and sometimes I was so cold in the room I tried to have a hot bath to warm me up - but there was no hot water!
Entertainment let the hotel down for us, possibly because November is out of season (?) as whenever there was interesting entertainment on, we were asked to pay to see it. During the day there were games and sports going on. Without discriminating it was a general observation that many activities were for the more mature guests of which there seemed to be a majority. Unfortunately, with it raining for 4 days, the only thing for us to do, was play table tennis outside in the cold, watch TV (2 english channels with poor reception) or play cards in the bar.
I am not a fussy eater, however, as much as I tried to vary my diet here, everything was made from the same ingredients and I was just bloated and feeling pretty sick a lot of the time. Breakfast was exactly the same every day, however, had a variety of options so I thought that was the best meal from the buffet, although there were loads of insects in the muesli one day. At dinner, I always found something to eat, but never really thought "Mmmm... that was nice" or " I really enjoyed that" It was just survival!
The French and Italian meals we were entitled to twice each week definately are the reason I increased my food scoring. The rastaurants were set up really nicely and we were waited on by very professional staff in a well decorated, ambiently lit room, with something like panpipe tunes of the 70s and 80s playing in the background. These meals were 3 courses of preshly prepared food served to just 5 tables per seating and were included in our half board meals, we just had to pay for drinks. Recommend booking on day of arrival to get the days you want.
The pools were clean and well kept. There were always ebough sun loungers, and we had to pay 1 TD (40p) per day for a foam matress which made them much more comfy. These were also available on the private beach too. The best thing about the pool was that waiters brought your drinks to you while you were sunbathing which meant you could totally relax by the pool. The beach was very clean. We walked to other hotel's beach areas which were not very nice and we very grateful we had such a nice area about 5 minutes walk from the hotel - straight down a pathway directly from the hotel.
Location - We could walk to the main harbour area along the beach but it would take about an hour. A taxi took less than 5 minutes and cost 4 TD (
